If you're interested in strobist, stuff, I would suggest checking out mpex and the cactus v4s. It is an extremely inexpensive way to get into off camera triggering. You can pick up full manual flashes off of ebay/craigslist/forums for very cheap and get going, and will work with any system. If you were more serious about flash photography, there are more developed professional triggering/control systems for other brandsin my opinion.

I'm actually kind of curious to know how many politicians (or even public figures in general) have DUI's.
I can think of more than I would like to off the top of my head.

pictures would really help here. Are you using the same lenses on the canon and the pentax? older uncoated lenses have some issues depending on lighting conditions.

What do you think of HDR?

I find it "uncanny" in the freudian sense. It is closer to realistic to not be interpreted as a photograph, but not realistic to be a real scene. I find that HDR is too heavy handed when you try to compress too much dynamic range into a medium with a lower dynamic range. It looks uncanny because monitors and printers are not capable of fully replicating the range that the eye can see.

In your terms, a photograph cannot capture what the eye can see, but print/displays cannot represent what the eye can see either. You are merely compressing what the eye can see into the range that the format can represent.

Not that I dislike HDR, but I am more impressed by someone who can use a limited range to focus the viewer. HDR is distracting if there is a subject that I'm supposed to focus on.

luckily there are plenty of new people joining the forums! I find it is a right of passage when I can answer a question that I asked a year earlier for someone newer than me. Keeps the old fogies from getting too grumpy :D

the mods deserve a thanks too imo :D

What mode do you have the flash in? I have sync issues with my 360 when I forget to take it out of p-ttl or anything other than manual. The flash has a slight delay before it fires while it tries to communicate. I also have issues if it is in rear curtain sync or high speed sync. Hope that helps,

Very first day with DSLR - what am I doing wrong?

I second that the images overall are exposed properly, but maybe your subject is poorly lit or you didn't expose to your subject.

They method I like to use is the "green button" or auto-exposure lock. Read up on it in you manual. I use it to spot meter on the subject I want, to make sure I get what I want exposed properly.

Now, if you have snow or a lot of sky and a backlit subject, these things are going to be blown out. This is because of the limited range you can get out of your sensor/film/whatever.

Hope that helps!

Cactus V4

they work fine for me, I do occasional flash photography for shots of my gear, and the random portrait. I haven't had a misfire yet.
Definitely get the V4's though, they are miles better than the v2's.

If you're impatient and in the US like me, then you can pay a few dollar premium and get them much faster from mpex.com, who resells them in the US

So I'm going to assume that the first 4 are from one parent and the second 4 are from the other parent. The one thing about sexual reproduction is that gametes from the same parent can't recombine.
Practically, this means that all the gametes from one parent go across the top( SV, sV, sv, sv), and the gametes from the other parent go along the side(Sv, Sv, sV, sV). In your original diagram, this is labeled as male parent and female parent.

Then multiply out and you should get your result. Don't forget to combine and simplify like phenotypes and genotypes.

Code:

   SV | sV |sv | sv |

Sv| SSVv | sSVv |sSvv | sSvv|

Sv| SSVv | sSVv |sSvv | sSvv|

sV| SsVV | ssVV |ssvV | ssvV|

sV| SsVV | ssVV |ssvV | ssvV|

Alternatively, you can deal with fewer terms by combining first, then multiplying

Code:

         SV (1/4) | sV (1/4) | sv(1/2) |

Sv(1/2)| SSVv(1/8)| sSVv(1/8)|sSvv(1/4)|

sV(1/2)| SsVV(1/8)| ssVV(1/8)|ssvV(1/4)|

Hope that helps,

Is there any oil or anything on the blades? That is usually easier to fix than something more mechanical. You can make sure that the pin is all the way in by putting the rear lens cap on and switching the switch, then try to move the aperture ring. good luck!

I was able to do some repairs on mine by removing the front element. I had a bunch of metal shavings and dust on the front element, that got me a bargain on the lens. You need a rubber stopper/spanner wrench/crutch foot to get the nameplate off. Then you can get to the front element from there

Browsed through this thread and pretty much all caught up! I have been on quite the medium format hiatus, but I whipped out a spotmatic to run some testrolls through ("new" expired film batch and "new" SPII).

All S-M-C 35mm/3.5 at f/8 shot on BW400 (c-41) film, at 8 seconds at night.

How much is this set of Takumars worth? (35, 50, 135)

just one thing to keep in mind when peeping at the lens-db: it lumps super-takumars with s-m-c takumars. S-M-C's tend to get the highest prices of all the takumars, because they have the newer coatings and at least in my case a preference for the older style focusing barrel.

I would say your high end are reasonable prices. Depending on how fast you want to sell them you could probably get a little more if you parted and waited for the right buyer; though on ebay I have seen the 50/1.4 fetch some pretty hard prices, depending on camera releases.

Interior - Kitchen post reno

I don't do a ton of interior shots, but I think you can benefit from some landscape pointers:
because you are in a cramped spot, you definitely want to close down the aperture to get the greatest depth of field posible. It looks like the best lit portion of your kitchen is either slightly out of focus, or suffering from the lens flare from your beautiful recessed/spot lighting. Stopping down the aperture should help with both.

A polarizer would help cut down on the glare from the cabinets as mentioned, and if you can any type of fill light you can get from the side to compete with the overhead lights would help a ton to fill in some of the details of your cabinets on the bottom.

hope that helps!

Not sure how active craigslist is in your area, but I have scored a full darkroom setup in my basement complete with trays and a 4x5 enlarger for about $100 after all is said and done. Craigslist isn't as active as it used to be as it seems like everyone has unloaded their equipment, but gems can still be found.

Granted I use patterson reels and tanks, I guess I should have hung onto some s.s. reels judging by the responses here! I give my vote for HC110 as well, but I am more of a convenience developer, and just a beginner.

An interior bathroom is probably the best place to develop your film. Everything you could need, and they're easy enough to black out. I used to hang a heavy blanket over the doorway with penny nails and Binder clips. Or you can use heavy mil garden plastic too. Both are only temporary and can fold up under the bathroom sink when you're done.

I was actually underwhelmed by it. I guess you could say it makes a compelling high battery life large screened ipod, or a low battery life ebook. The storage for syncing to a camera is too expensive to be that useful, and you can't edit. Would be interesting for uploading to photo sharing sites though, though at 3g speeds.

I won't buy it.

Thanks for the tip :D
