Error Can't leave feedback for the Marketplace

I am having trouble too. Here are the steps I followed:

1. Go to https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/feedback.php?u=102
2. Click "Submit Feedback For jthommo"

Expected behavior:

- Form to leave feedback.

Actual behavior:

- Strange form that I did not recognize and which did not seem to be a feedback form (see screenshot).

This is using Firefox 3.5 on Linux. The "leave feedback" link in the sale thread had the same result.

Thanks,

Reid

So, PentaxForums is pretty great. But, I am branching out into other brands as well.

Can any of you recommend photographer forums that focus on other brands or which are brand agnostic?

For example, nikonians.org seems reasonable but I don't like their payment model (only paying members may participate after a trial period).

Many thanks,

Reid

Hi,

I consolidated the following item for sale into a multi-item post:

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/sold-items/77136-sale-sold-pentax-da-10-17mm-fisheye.html

I marked it "sold" to get it off the marketplace but that's not really correct. So if mods wish to delete it, please do (I couldn't figure out how).

Thanks,

Reid

Pentax DA 18-250

This lens has a wonderful range and has quite good IQ. The convenience of one lens and no changes is really great to have in many situations.

The key disadvantage to my eyes is vignetting. Many/most copies of this lens, including this one, suffer from falloff which is not symmetric, and tiny dark flecks in the upper-right corner can be a nuisance even when stopped down if the subject is sensitive to this (e.g. blue skies). It is easily resolved if you are prepared to crop slightly (we're talking a few dozen pixels max) or otherwise fix in post.

Item for Sale
Sigma 18-125mm F3.5-5.6

Asking Price
$170 USD - SOLD - final price was $185 including shipping to Canada and all PayPal fees.

Item Description
This lens is a fine superzoom that's not quite as zoomy as the zoomiest, but it's smaller, lighter, and far cheaper. The convenience of no lens changes is often essential, and this is a great way to get that option at low cost.

Includes both end caps, hood, box, and manual. The rear cap is a little crappy but it works OK. It currently has a capkeeper mounted; I'll throw that in if you want it or remove it if you don't.

It's redundant with my DA 18-250, which is why I'm selling.

See reviews here (note that one of them is mine, so feel free to disregard it for the purposes of this sale): PentaxForums.com Third-Party Pentax Lens Review Database - 18-125mm F3.5-5.6 DC

Corrosion on a Spotmatic

Another suggestions I've read is to cool the bottom plate e.g. with ice cubes or some other method - the dissimilar metals will shrink differently, perhaps enough to get the thing off.

But if your battery compartment is corroded, I would strongly suspect that you need a CLA anyway.

Hm, OK. Those seem to go for $200 and up on KEH.

I guess what I am really after is, what's the space? Where do I learn about spot meters and their various merits and (importantly) their various costs?

Lens for bears?

OK, here's the post-mortem.

First off, it's an amazing place to visit. The number of bears is astonishing - my wife decided to count the visible bears at an unremarkable moment and came up with 10. If you're in northern Minnesota, I strongly recommend a visit, and go from opening until they kick you out. Do take some time to just watch the bears in addition to photographing.

I ended up not even bringing the Tak -- in prior tests it was just too fiddly for my patience level on my K200D. (My Spottie is at Eric's for CLA, and I'm excited to see how it is on that.) So, I used my 18-250 and was happy with the results, though next time I'll do some things differently.

Regarding FL, 90%+ of the keeper bear pics were at 250mm, and often I wanted more. The remaining 10% were all over 70mm; I think I would have been happy with a 70-100mm minimum. I think an appropriate maximum is, the longest you can afford, :) as all the bears have different faces. (One bear cub was apparently wall-eyed.)

The zoom was nice, as the bears were at all sorts of different differences. I do not think I would have been happy fiddling with changing primes.

I did take some context shots at wide-angle, but they weren't essential and I wouldn't have missed them much.

The center is open evenings and that's when I was shooting. I struggled with shutter speed and almost everything was taken nearly wide-open (f/6.3) at ISO 1600. So fast lens would be nice and I should have taken NaClH2O's advice on the monopod.

Here's a few samples. The first three are aggressive crops at 250mm and the last is at 18mm.

I'd say yes, just puppy cuteness. The photo doesn't do much to me: it might if we could see more emotion from the dog and/or owner, or if the body language had some sense of urgency, or the weather was awfuler.

I'm not so sure on the lion -- the traditional composition is much tighter, yes, but you exacerbate resolution, focus, lens problems with such an aggressive crop.

I think you've captured the lion with superb timing in a really interesting context. For me, the composition "opportunities" for the lion are: (1) the lion is too centered and (2) the rock in the lower light is grey and boring and breaks the mood created by the green ivy. Play around with one or both opportunities. Remember you don't have to keep the same aspect ratio.

p.s. "100% crop" means that one captured pixel equals one screen pixel, i.e. a snippet of the actual size image. I think you mean that the presented images are the full ones, i.e. you haven't cropped anything out in the first posts -- right?

Dear all,

I'm thinking about a spot meter. I'm having an old Spotmatic II CLA'ed. Having never shot film, it seems useful to be able to predict how specific elements of the scene will be exposed (since it's more difficult to muck with exposure in post), and I'll bet that it would be useful for educating myself as well.

What are the options? Can a reasonable spot meter be had inexpensively?

Much appreciated,

Reid

Thank you all for your thoughtful critiques!

I wonder if the B&W image could benefit from some additional TLC. Specifically, I'll try to bring something more out of the sky - perhaps this weekend I'll have time to sit down and try again. I'll post my result in this thread.
