Is manual focus even necessary at that distance? Why not just set focus at infinity and shoot?

If anyone wants a refurbed K200D for $405 shipped, with the 18-55 kit lens, here's the deal: Moo?ˇ : Ou? p??' Ou? p???
Don't be afraid of the "refurb" status.

It was more than a "random" review. Amazon advertised it as the "most helpful" critical review (only because it was the ONLY critical review). So, until his review was commented upon very thoroughly and countered, and before 60+ readers voted it "not helpful", it was sitting there prominently, with all it's nonsensical issues.
Then this thread came along and promoted the response, and now the review has been pulled. The truth has come out.
And you really have a problem with that?

Great comment. I was hoping someone would systematically respond to his "issues" and you did it very, very well.

Now 0 for 53. Could his review get to 0 for 100? Quite easily at the current rate IMO.
I wonder what the record is at Amazon for that?

Mr. Weiner seems to have done a fine job of exposing himself. Now there are 4 very negative and intelligent responses to his review. And 0 of 24 did not find his review helpful... a figure that is rising at about 15 per hour by my rough calculation.

Don't worry about the "refurbished". The camera you get may be brand new, it just can't be sold as new for some reason. 90 day Pentax warranty on the body, 1 year on the lens.
So it's $400 plus tax for the body and kit lens.
you can use the code "taxsucks" to save the $5 shipping.
Just thought I'd repost this in case anyone wants one. Might be the last chance.

I recently bought one and am waiting for delivery. Did some research and decided the camera and price were very attractive.
"refurbished" usually means not used, just can't be sold as new for a variety of reasons. I've bought other Pentax DSLR's from these folks and the cameras were basically new.
use coupon code "TAXSUCKS" to save the $5 shipping, but you will owe sales tax.

Here's a comparison of the k200d, the kx and the km. I threw the km in because I have one that is practically brand new, very low shutter count, that I will be selling soon with the kit lens. Probably will ask $325. Pentax Cameras | Pentax K200D vs. Pentax K-m - Pentax DSLR Comparison - PentaxForums.com
You can also read the owner reviews on each model.
I like the k200d because it has the top LCD, weatherproofing and AF points in the viewfinder. It also offers a handgrip option that holds a backup battery set. It lacks video capability, which is of no interest to me and it has a smaller sensor than the k-x.
Plus I found a good deal.

Cost, obviously. I don't know why you are attracted to the k-r and k-x, but IMO the K200d compares favorably as an entry level DSLR. It's not really a "lower quality body" at all. It lacks some of the features of those cameras, but it has other desirable features that they lack.
If you have a good idea about exactly how you expect to use your first DSLR, some time researching the comparative features would probably be a good investment of time for you.

Very good work by both you and the model, who is really lovely. #1 and #3 are particularly excellent.

Potentially, you have the contrast of her skin with the bark of the tree to make an interesting shot.

I like the last shot best. The guitar is nice and clear, while the rest of the photo, particularly the musician's head provides good bokeh. You might try the first pic in B&W also you might get the same effect there.
