I had the LX3 and loved its results. The initial release firmware softened the images too much and it felt worse than LX3 but the later firmware fixed it. The expanded zoom range on LX5 is nice to have. I just bought the S100 (first in the S series with wider angle than 28mm) but part of me wants the LX5, too bad I can't have everything in one pocketable camera :)

Pentax Q 2 lens kit (50mm prime and 27.5-83mm zoom) Asking Price
625 net Item Location
Northern VA (United States) Item Description
The camera and the lens are in great shape. I just haven't used the kit as much as I thought I would, it has been virtually eating dust (actually wrapped up and kept away from dust). I have the camera, original battery, charger, USB cable, box etc. I had an extra battery that I couldn't find today, if I find it I will include it. I can throw in a 4GB card if you need one.
I am looking for $625 net to me and that includes shipping within US. I will ship USPS and if you want some other service we can talk about it.
Regarding trade:
I don't have anything particular in mind; I am open to trading with any other gadget; laptop, camera or K-mount lens or a combination with cash. PM me with what you've got to offer. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

Hi stresless,
I have had this lens in the past and I'm thinking about getting it again. It is much better than the kit 18-55. The kit is a good cheap lens but it's not as sharp and its aperture is 3.5 on the wide (18mm) and 5.6 on the tele (55mm). I don't know what the aperture value for 17-70 is at 55mm, but it must be at least 4.5 or possibly wider. The 17-70 is much sharper and it gets pretty good macros as well. It's 1:2.3 macro ratio, that means that if the macro subject has a length of 2.3 x sensor length, the subject will fill the sensor, i.e. it will fill the screen, whatever the camera's resolution is (say 3000 x 2000 on a 6MP camera). APS-C sensor size is 36×24 mm. 1:1 would mean something the size of sensor (36×24 mm) will completely fill the sensor, so a 36×24 mm subject will show up as 3000 x 2000 on a 6MP camera.

Interesting results! Thank you for your effort in compiling it all! So the sensor is more like ISO 166 when it says its ISO 100. Initially I had rejected the Q when they released the specs (1/2.33" sensor) with no high ISO samples but I'm glad to see the real world shots!

Thanks for sharing. I can barely see any differences to say which one is better. Was the f4.3 the widest aperture on that focal length on TS3?
How about some high ISO comparisons?

Hi Motorman,
In defense of Pascal, I had been PMing him back and forth for days about the receipt, warranty not being transferable even with receipt and finally about paypal gift vs regular payment (2.9% fee) and I swung back and forth about buying it, not buying it. My correspondence with Pascal was with almost as much delay as it was between you and Pascal, part of that correspondence was one response from him that didn't come until after almost 24 hours and I was thinking the same that he probably sold it already and he didn't have the courtesy to reply me back. The next morning I had a reply from him. That suggests that he probably doesn't check his emails every 20 minutes like I do. I suspect he spends more time with humans. I have been as impatient as you but I keep bumping into more people who have other things to do in life than to check their emails 20 times a day. Disappoints me again and again, and as a result I am less impatient the next time it happens to me. (Edit: My first PM to Pascal was sent some 4-5 days before your PM and bump, I didn't bump the thread which I should have done as a courtesy. It hasn't been too long since you sent him your PM, the response to one of my PMs took 24+ hours!)
Lord, give me patience!!
And I want it right now!!
Take a deep breath and relax. I hope you will find a good deal as well. 42nd street photo has it for $1099 free shipping whereas (I think) the lowest price for the new K5 had been hovering around $1200 for some time now, maybe you'll find an even better deal!
Edit: Maybe he didn't respond to you because he thought if he puts the already-pending deal with me on hold, he might lose me and meanwhile you might change your mind later like I flip-flopped.

Thanks everyone for the input.
The 100mm 3.5 macro looks good.
I do have a screw mount adapter and the Takumar 135 3.5 will be my first screw mount lens, I wonder whether I'll enjoy the full manual control (not sure about Super Albinar 28mm, I didn't even check if it's k-mount or screw :D).
I will look up how the extension tubes work. I checked the close-up filters and when compared with dedicated macro lenses the result with filters doesn't look good but then again I don't want to spend $300+ at this time (or $200 for MF).
If only I could get a few $3 macro lenses to play with like RioRico... :)
I don't have a 50mm at this time, I will watch out for Sigma 50 2.8 or Pentax-M 50 f4.

I have been hunting some prime lenses, I sniped a 28mm f2.8 Albinar and a Takumar 135mm f2.8 today and I'm looking for a 50mm, a 105mm and a 200mm prime. I was wondering if there is a 1:1 100mm or 105mm or 90mm macro that can be found in $100? I know the Tamron 90mm MF lenses are in the range of $200 but perhaps there's a cheap macro in $100 that I haven't come across?

I would disagree with that statement, Pentax is not just caught up in the MP nonsense, the K5 has better high-ISO result than K7 even though it offers more resolution. I would say that the K7 was an exception in the Pentax line-up, it had 14MP, same as K20d but worse noise, almost all other cameras have been constantly improving high-ISO performance over their previous one. I bought the K100D, then K10D, then K20D but I didn't bother with K7 because of the pathetic high-ISO performance. The K20D probably wasn't as good as 6MP sensors were, but the new 16MP sensor in K5 has produced amazing results and Pentax has gotten the best out of it, arguably better than the D7000.

And 99% of all statistics are fake (including the one I'm quoting) :)
Yeah maybe it's 0.1%, maybe not even 0.1% but we don't have any data available about it, I have never gone close to half of 100k

I understand the 3 axes; yaw, pitch and roll (x,y and z) but the fourth axis is said to be the dimension of time, does the K5 have a sensor for the 4th axis that can detect whether you're going forward in time or backward? :)

That's probably the electronic equivalent of the equipment that you use to make sure the floors are level, the one with a bubble in the liquid, to ensure that the camera is aligned with the horizon and not a few degrees off to the left or the right. Remember how we often take photos of a sunset or a structure or a group of people that we have to rotate by 2 degrees to align the horizontal axis? This is supposed to prevent that.

Sigma sold locally, both Pentax lenses are still available. I have an offer for Pentax 50-200 on ebay but I'll prefer a deal outside ebay to save fees, now asking $110 + shipping here.
