It can be done in some cameras, but mostly post processing. It stands for high dynamic range. It can be accomplished with one picture, but it works better if you have 3 to 5 to work with in layers.

The K-5 has so many features in a smaller body. I do construction documentation and I don't need full resolution most of the time. When I'm not needing more than 16MP I'm missing my K-5.

I just went to the D800, but there are times I miss the K-5.

I got my D800 about a month ago and I love it. I have the 24-70mm f2.8 and the 70-200mm f2.8. I had the K-5 and all of the DA* lenses. Here's what I found.
The D800 is almost perfect IMHO, but it is a bit bigger and heavier (see picture). After getting the D800, I sold off the pentax gear because I couldn't afford 2 systems.
I realized that the K-5 was a great camera. The many features I like about the D800 were on the K-5. The conclusion:
If you don't need the full frame, super high resolution, stick with the K-5. It's a great camera.

Wow!
I know this is an old post, but Wow! I wonder how many of these lenses are still out there in useable condition. I also wonder how many were made by Pentax.

I guess it depends on who's life you're talking about. If you're talking about the dealership's life, well it's right on the money.

I have the AF-540FGZ flash on my K-5. The flash is set to HS flash with P-TTL. I have the camera on M mode, shutter at 1000th/second, f5.6, 400iso. It's shooting just fine

Yea, that's my point. The price dropped fast. I'm hoping that it IS something on the horizon.

I guess I was really wanting to know wether Pentax is planning to come out with an upgrade to the K-5 any time soon. The price drops I've seen "could" point to that. Maybe it's just wishful thinking. ( By the way, I LOVE my K-5. I don't need an upgrade, just want one. )

I noticed that I can buy a new K-5 body on E-bay for under $1,000 now. That is a huge price drop. Is Pentax being generous, or are they making room for another, newer model?
I love my K-5, and I am thinking about getting another one. But if they have something new coming out soon, I may just wait and see what it is. Anybody hear any rumors about any new products?

I like the DA*16-50mm so much that I bought two of them. I use this lens all the time. I got the second one just this week so I'll be ready for my second K-5.
