if anyone owns this lens and has used any pentax macro (35, 50 or 100mm) or the tamron 90mm I would gladly like to know how they compare (positives or negatives) as I enjoy using manual focusing lenses but not sure if the quality or difference in the captured picture is enough to purchase the Zeiss compared to the pentax/tamron?
also is the F/2 aperture useful?
I have the da 35mm, FA 50mm and the Tamron.
Thanks...

I need to adjust the focus on the 180 since I can't focus wide open at infinity. Several weeks ago I got some help from this forum about focus adjustment for a 125mm...
Well after realizing I needed JIS screwdrivers to remove the adaptor mount I have finally done this but it looks different to the 125...
#1 has anyone adjusted the focus for infinity for a 180 and could make any suggestions to help me achieve this...
or
#2 does anyone know where in Australia (South Australia) where I could get this done?
Many thanks in advance!

Just got a voigtlander 180mm SL I
This seems like a beautiful lens especially when taking close ups, however I can't seem to get "infinity" photos in focus...
Q. When using the K20 I can only adjust the focus for all lenses not just the voigtlander so is this normal? It seems to be front focusing and I can't turn the focus barrel further - probably only need 0.5mm more! any suggestions? (ps was there ever a sl II model or what was different with the 2007 - last version?) - thanks...

here in Adelaide no shops have any stock of FA31s and there were only 2 in stock at CRK (Melbourne supplier) when I ordered mine... thus a bit hard to test etc.
I have been doing some more testing and have found that I can get a focus lock (beep sound and all) at 12cm! Can a 31 focus this close?
Also I've been doing my eyebrow test (just taking a portrait approx. 1 - 1.5m away and pixel peeping the results and I can't get a sharp image of eye lashes at f4 or f5.6 at any focus adjustment (K20). ****can anyone point me to or show me a full size or 100% crop with a eyebrow/eye lashes at any aperture (just collecting ammunition when I ring CRK next tuesday)****

Thanks Voe for those two photos.
Now I really know that the FA 31mm can be sharp at 1.8 which I've being trying to find - I really do think (know) that my lens is very similar to your AIV lens. I get similar results wide open on brick walls at a similar angle... nothing really sharp!

I've reset the AF adjustment - taken more landscape and portrait photos and wide open they are the worse quality I have ever seen. Looks like this lens won't be going on holidays next month...

just brought this AIS (Australia - CRK) a couple of weeks ago had major problems adjusting the AF focus for close ups ie flowers (+70 on my KX) but now my landscape photos are just crap!!!!!!!!!!! I can get better images with my FA 50mm wide open. Below is a crop on where the focus should be plus a link to the full size photo. Is this an out of focus photo or just a bad lens?
Please help I bought this lens for my holidays in a few weeks and have no idea about why these photos are poor quality. (with all my lens I do a focus test on a focus chart then brick wall tests all with great results... except of course the only lens I really don't need but just had to get! (perhaps this a cure for LBA...)

To be honest I am at my wits end about this lens so any comments suggestions would be most welcome.

very interesting thread since I just purchased a FA31 with the help of CRK and only yesterday looked at some real world photos I'd taken with my KX and they were absolute crap so I'd tried it on my K20 and needed to dial in +10 for this lens to get Flowers sharp at F1.8 but now I think my long distance shots are not that sharp at this aperture...
(all my other lens including a 77mm need -ve values... up to -10 for my DA35 on my K20 - all except one other lens is great on my KX with no adjustments)
so my question is it an assembled in Vietnam - since mine is?
plus how do you test and adjust for AF adjustments (I'd done some brick wall, newspaper etc tests and they seemed ok even on my KX and this testing seem to work for all other lens for real world shots but not for the 31mm)?

Alas I want to buy a Fa 31mm. So I rang C R Kennedy to enquire about stock (yes!!!) and if “Ryda.com.au” supplies an Australian Pentax warranty since it was the best price I could find? Anyhow I never found out about Ryda cause I was told to print the Ad out take it to one of the two big camera shops in South Australia, tell them that you have contacted CR Kennedy and they will? match the price! Well this morning I went into the store that rythmes with “DREADs” and they were quite rude and very unhelpful. (so much for buying all my canon gear there). I know I read in the “other forum” once about how CR Kennedy will match prices somehow but considering the lengthy drive to and from the city I feel like buying overseas - I'm a little cheesed off!! (however the FA limited have little price advantage of doing this unlike DA’s)
1. Has anyone bought anything from Ryda.com.au and was it a good experience?
2. Does anyone know if CR Kennedy will support International warranty if I can get one?
3. or How can I get a reasonable price in S.A.?
thanks…

believe it or not all yours replies have been most helpful, made me think and even made me smile especially when I read tokyoso's "you sound like a well off guy" - I had to show my wife that one!!! but that's the main problem with the Pentax system... it gives you a thirst for perfection and for me really delivers it (its just a hobby for me that started when someone gave a one of Canon 10D he wasn't using - now he was a well off guy!!) but this thirst for improvement made me eventually shift sides and now I'm using Pentax and makes me unbelievably excited and proud because I'm able to bit by bit to produce some stunning photos (well at least in my eyes) and now I'm slowly learning to be creative with my photography.
And that’s why I can't sleep - buying lenses is addictive and 'cause money is often hard to come by and I can't really afford to buy another one and probably don't need another one but if "beans on toast for a few weeks" and not paying off the car loan sooner etc. allows me to buy another lens that lets me do something creative and different and which ultimately in the end puts a dirty great big smile on my face... well I'll want that lens... no! I'll need that lens!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

rustynail925 thanks... I've got a tamron 90mm which I haven't used much and only on very small still life but never thought to try it on larger objects so I will do some comparisons with the 77mm and experiment with depth of field - could be quite interesting!!!
sajah thanks also with the 43mm suggestion - its a lens I haven't really thought about until the last few days and it seems to bit a little different than the other FA LTDs which may suit me quite well!!!
has anyone got any pros and cons about the DA55mm and FA 43mm???

After purchasing a FA 77mm recently for bokeh purposes but have ended playing with it wide open just for narrow depth of field photos; mainly portraits of statues and a few garden shots and I was wondering if the DA 55mm width open will give me a more pronounced out of focus on similar subjects and/or distances as well as good bokeh and sharpness? (can any one post any flower shots with stamens at F1.4 with a Da 55mm/F1.9 with a Fa 43mm?) Or… would I be better off investing money on a FA 31mm? Any advice or thoughts about this would be most welcome as I am actually going NUTS over this for the past 2 weeks and even started to look at lens for my Canon 400D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ps I’m looking at a AF lens and yes I have read most of the posts about 50mm lens and bokeh… etc and have just recently got a FA 1.4 50mm but it is a bit soft – I also find that the 77mm just doesn’t take a bad photo and maybe I’m hoping the 31 or 43 may be the same!)

Yes horse and tram at Victor Harbor. I also found it very difficult not to get my shadow in the shot although not a problem with the other 2 shots. (pretty amazing to hold a camera an arm's length from a show ride and get the entire ride in view!!!)
