Worst Experience with Adorama

All I was asking and expecting another lens ship out overnight so I get it tomorrow. Don't think that's too much of an expectation for a double goof up :hmm:

Unfortunately it does not solve or help me in anyway and solution did not change even after Helen's intervention. Only difference is I got quick follow-up emails and a phone call. I have to return the lens using Adorama's shipping label and wait for replacement with a hope it will be indeed a new lens.

All in all I will be wasting 2 weeks for a lens I wanted and paid for overnight shipping (which later was waived off)

While not related it reminds me of contrasting amazing service from Leica Miami store. My brand new M had an issue and had to be returned and they did not have another one in stock. The guys first refunded ~$6000+ then sent me a label asking to return camera as per my convinience.

Helen, Thank you again.

To reiterate nothing against agent, as I mentioned in my OP, all of them were very polite and were genuinely trying to help.
Will await update from you over email

Helen, I emailed you the details.

For everyone else, I am NOT bashing Adorama they have been wonderful on all my transaction and thanks to them I am proud owner of K-1 :) and I am waiting for 77mm delivery

If Adorama would have accepted they shipped a wrong item and requested for return for refund, I would have still frustrated but would have shipped it back w/o creating this thread. (they did offer this as other option) What really pissed me off is offering $10 to keep a used lens at the same price as new which is $1000

Worst Experience with Adorama

Well this is a rant but I do need to vent out. So excuse me. This is my worst experience ever from any renowned online retailer.

I ordered a NEW $1000 lens (Pentax 31mm limited) with overnight shipping 2 days back only to find out yesterday that order was cancelled by "mistake". No email about cancellation I found out when I followed up to check why I haven't received the delivery.

Well mistakes happen, so Adorama apologized and agreed to overnight free if i place a new order, meaning a new charge on card while awaiting refund for original order. I thought a small bump but all is well but unfortunately ordeal did not end there...hence this thread

After placing a new order again, I received the lens today morning only to find out lens received was USED with missing lens cap and fingerprints on front element.

So I contacted again, Adorama asked for the photo which I provided. After "checking" Adorama decided to add more insult and offered $10 off for accepting $1000 used lens instead of new which I had ordered, no word on warranty. Other option? Well send it it back for replacement which can take 6-8 days as they do not have stock or get a refund.

On the positive note though, all agents I spoke to were polite and were genuinely trying to help. So looks like an issue beyond what front desk is empowered to do.

I really really miss B&M shopping experience :-(

To me that's impossible rather sucidal for PENTAX. Their biggest possible customer base for FF is folks who already have FA lenses, it doesn't make business sense to leave them out...

Any idea of the price?

It depends on where PENTAX wants to position new Camera. I believe Ricoh would either categorize it against D810/5D or against D750 and price accordingly.

Considering this will become flagship for PENTAX I doubt they will put it against D610/6D. So my guess it will either be $3300 or $2300.

Is FA limiteds due for refresh?

Thank to FF announcement, I just purchased K3 kit and was searching for FA limiteds as I will probably be able use them when FF body is available. And then I realized that while Pentax did update DA Limiteds with HD coating , none of FAs are updated. I am specifucaly considering buying 31 and 77.

Does this mean Pentax is probably thinking updating these lenses at the time of FF Body release? And I sit worth to purchase them now or better wait till end of the year?

PS: typing from phone so please excuse any typos/spellings

I ordered K5II with couple of limiteds from B&H on 2nd Dec early morning with overnight shipping so I can get it on 3rd morning. B&H shipped one day late with 4th 10:30am guaranteed delivery still UPS delivered it today at around 2pm.

Looks like B&H and UPS both are busy because of Black Friday season, good for economy good for us :)

Pentax Prices - The Sad Advantage

Well I don't think its an issue limited to PENTAX itself. Lets see some prices of recent "news maker" cameras
  • Nikon D600 Q3/2012 for $2000 selling now for $1300 refurbished so used prices would be still lower.

  • Canon 6D Q3/2012 for $2000 selling now for $1300 refurbished so used prices would be still lower. Note this is still a current model

  • Olympus E-M5 Q1/2012 for $1399 selling now $649 refurbished

  • Fuji X-E1 launched Q3/2012 for $999 selling now for $699 NEW, $400-$500 used

Faster refresh cycle and desire to have latest and greates is what pushing prices down across the brands...

I am among the ones who are coming back to PENTAX after earlier brief affairs. Earlier while I really liked PENTAX I was worried about its longevity
But with PENTAX being in good hands ala Ricoh which some of pentax fan seem to hate, I feel safe enough to put my $ in. :)

Remember prices are up for all high grade lenses and not the consumer lenses. Volume is driven by consumer grade cameras/lenses where PENTAX is offering heavy discounts.

Pentax Lens Price Hike - Here we go again!

Predicting doom and gloom just because some prices are gone up, is too short minded in my opinion. I can think of couple of things that could have caused this.

1. Pentax was probably selling these at razor thin margin so not much space to offer rebates. Remember Canikon and specially Nikon offers regular rebates which keeps their prices down. So I suspect, this will be followed by regular occasional rebates (like Nikon) to spur up volume in spikes eventually selling more lenses at the end of the day.

2. If anyone here know anything about Ricoh, they have always placed their Cameras as premium offering for a niche market. They seem to be happy with less sale at higher prices than flooding market with cheap cameras. At least on Ricoh side they have cult like following specially in their home market. Ricoh GRD IV a 10Mp fixed lens compact was selling for $600-700 not so long ago. Even now after GRD V announcement its selling for $549 that's nearer to Sony RX100 and costlier than Nikon/Pany/Oly entry level mirrorless. I do not remember any Ricoh loyal customers complaining about GRD being costlier.

3. Prices of "consumser" lenses seem to have not affected rather have been reduced drastically through current rebates. This is probably an attempt to position these 10 lenses with Canon L or Nikon higher grade lenses and then offering occasional rebates to level set.

While I understand the pain of shelling more $ if you want to buy the lens right now, I am glad to see Pentax/Ricoh re-calibrating it lens pricing and hoping people behind it know what they are doing for the long term growth and benefit of the brand

Very True.

When I liked few images I tried to find a photographer to see his/her body of work. But at least I could not find out a way to identify the photographer.
