If the new lenses are really the 35mm and the 18-125mm

I'd like it if some new lenses used SDM... a working SDM.

It seriously sucks how noisy the AF gets on non-SDM lenses. It drives me nuts. I'm venting now....

...but look at Canon and Nikon, they incorporate their Ultrasonic and SWM motors in non-pro lenses (or non-DA* equivalents)

Agreed. Improved AF is key with the new model.

Please also keep in mind the physical size that you desire to carry around.

The DA 12-24mm f4 vs. the DA 15mm f4 has quite a substantial difference with respect to dimensions. Be sure to take this into consideration.

I can appreciate that, but my first impressions from competing cameras still leave me wanting more from Pentax. Personal preference I guess, but I appreciate the insight!

I've curbed my hunger for a companion to my DSLR with a Canon S90.

I'm sorry to say, but it's convenience and flexibility with controls have led me to use just the S90 in the past month and a half.

But to someone's point on pg.2 (sorry forgot to quote)... who mentioned that it's not about the camera but about the pictures. I totally agree, but due to hunting in low light and slow AF responsiveness, I've loss many "could have been amazing" shots. The screen also doesn't do much justice as it's hard to tell if the shot came out exactly as you wanted it, right there on the spot.

Don't get me wrong, I love my K200D and it's been my only DSLR to date, but I need something faster. For my type of street photography, you only have a few seconds to take a snap which is why my S90 is so reliable for me.

I just hope this Pentax-Hoya relationship can spit out something magnificent, much like the K-7 (great, but I wouldn't say magnificent ;)

It's funny how much I can flip-flop about this. On the one hand I love my K200D, then some days I just can't wait for something that'll focus much faster and have a bigger viewfinder.

That's just me though... I'm the type of guy who starts researching which road bike to get after he buys a mountain bike... true story BUT I slapped myself out of it!

Is there something wrong with me? Am I alone?

Landscape Gulfoss Waterfall, Iceland

I recently went to Iceland and some other parts of Europe with a couple buddies of mine. I read enough photography magazines to know exactly how to take pano shot, but I had never done it until that day at the waterfall as my prime lens couldn't get everything I wanted in the shot.

Using PS CS3, I stitched 5 vertical shots together and it resulted in the following. I admit it may not be the most exciting scene, but the small rainbow you can see at the foot of the waterfall just made me happy enough to want to share it.

Thoughts/comments are appreciated. Thanks.

Just bought a Canon S90

My birthday was last week and I got a gift card to Futureshop. I had recommended the S90 to a co-worker who asked for a reco on a p&s with higher quality features.

He bought it, went on a trip to Hawaii and showed me the pics. What an amazing little camera it is. I had just also come back from 10 days in Europe, including a jaunt in Iceland.

I love my K200D, but I wanted something smaller and more technologically advanced (wrt: software, scene recognitions... etc.)

...and so I bought the S90 yesterday. It has everything I need. I could care less about HD Video as VGA is fine enough to document something funny and it's the perfect size to carry around. Albeit, the price tag is a bit on the hefty side, I'd rather pay for a smaller version of a G11, than the actual G11 and have to lug that around. I know, I know... G11 has the hotshoe and the screen... blah blah blah... but the same sensor?!

I've anyone is looking to complement their DSLR with an amazing p&s, my recommendation is to look no further.

I used it last night in low light with some friends over and was very happy with its responsiveness, screen... all that crap...

Seems like most people who've picked one up, love it. I hope you will to if you decide on getting the S90.

...screw that. I couldn't take the thought of it failing PERIOD!

Pentax SMC FA 50mm/F1,4 to buy or not to buy?

It's a great lens and it's usually a steal. I got mine for $185 CAD and now that I've used it, I would've paid up to $300 for it.

Amazing portraits, colour rendition and good size.

Focus ring is small and the lens is "plasticky", but don't let that be the determining factor. Stop it down a bit as f1.4 is a bit too soft, but overall wonderful results.

Result looks great! I've always considered picking up the 300mm DA* for the telephoto range.

How's the weight/handling of the lens (including the teleconverter)?

I had the same feeling... very slow. Especially when compared to a Canon Powershot. Hopefully the overall speed (processing speed) and controls have been re-engineered.

Yes. Look at the serial number Bayes' theorem results (a few pages back) to make sure what the fourth digit is.

Keep in mind this is a thread for people who actually want to voice issues with the lens. There are still lots of people out there who purchased the lens and have no clue what Pentaxforums.com is.

With the torch in Vancouver, I got up a little early before work to check out the relay. I took about a hundred photos and barely any turned out well enough... Here's one that I cropped and messed around with in PS. Let me know what you think... I was holding my camera above my head and shooting blindly!

Great atmosphere here for the games!

I use a Macbook Pro (the 2.2GHz one once updated to penryn 45nm). I have no issues whatsoever except the battery life has screwed me and I need a new one. Screw it. I keep it plugged in.

The new ones are even more powerful and to get around the screen issues, I just bought a DVI-HDMI cable (cost $15) and hook it up to my 46" LCD HDTV. Works flawlessly.

I don't think I could go back to windows now, but windows 7 has showed much more promise (compared to Vista ;)

-oh and one thing that sucks is the warranty: limited one-year :( but mac os' functionality is wonderful when using multiple windows in photoshop, iphoto... etc. -
