I know I'm dredging a bit here, but figured I'd do a search before starting a thread and this one seems to fit the jist.
I can't think of a single feature that would be more beneficial to this forum and it's users than if you could manage a way to make exif (easily) available to view.
Just puttin my vote in.

#1 confuses me, can't find anything to focus on and it kinda pushes you away, which some might find interesting.
#3 I'd like to see the tree line and sky, croping the top might help, but I think it would become a "geometric" photo and not really have much to say.
#2 gets my vote hands down. Timeless photo that just seems more inviting than the others.

Unfortunately whole band shots were hard to get with the focal length, it's a pretty small club. I got a couple, but they're just no good.
I appreciate the input and agree that some cropping is in order, but I have decided to hold off on any PP until I improve my camera skills. I understand that PP is a valuable tool, I just don't want it to be a crutch.
Here's a few more.
I just like this one for some reason... PBR ad maybe.

Out of 400+ shots this is my fave of the 80ish that were actualy in focus... boy is it hard to focus on moving subjects with a 10" DOF:eek:
This is a friends band and my first time with the M 50 f/1.4(which I'd just got from ebay a few hours before).
Other than the crop, this is straight from camera.
So.... what did I do wrong?

The only thing I'd add is, don't be afraid to fire away. Set er on burst and fill your card. And really work on the WB.
I shot my first show in a horribly lit bar Friday(with an M-50 1.4) so focusing was my biggest issue and out of over 400 shots I got 80 that are OK, but still haven't gone through again to select the ones I'm happy with(which may be zero).
But, I also had some issues with WB.... which I was gonna go into, but this isn't about me.

Sounds like an issue with the card and not the camera. Since the camera shows "remaining" shots it has to know how big the card is in order to calculate this. If there is some compatibility issue with the card and the camera is unable to tell how big(or small) it is it makes some sense that it would just display an arbitrary/default number. You'd also get the same from a card that is larger than 999 photos(like an 8Gig).
Although it seems like you'd just get a card error this is the only thing that makes any sense.l
I'd try a diferent card and see what you get.

Thanks and absolutely, but the color seems to jump out a bit more in these than those that are more properly exposed. And those are pretty true to how the light actualy was when I took them.
The thinking with waiting to PP is that I'd rather work on building better composition and exposure skills and get those dialed in before devoting more time to learn to PP well. And at the end of the day, a good shot to begin with shouldn't need all that much PP. For me personaly it has more to do with composition and lighting than anything else.
Here's one a little closer to right, but I think it might be a half stop over.

I really hadn't even considered the 55-300 till I saw these... I just spent the last hour reading up on it, seems to be a very decent lens at a great price.
Nice photos, by the way, 1 and 5 especialy.
Been wanting to ice race for quite a while... don't get much in WA... looks like a riot.

If memory serves: Class 3 is 6MBs, Class 4 is 12MBs and the Ultra II is 15 MBs read and 13MBs write(maybe 15). Most cards, especialy Sandisk are faster than thier "Class" requirements, so most Class 3 cards would suffice for a K20(Pentax's fastest writing camera). The K200/K10 would be slower than a K20.
The Extreme III writes at 30MBs(maybe 32).
So the only real benefit in a faster card is the speed it can transfer to your computer, but that's not worth the extra $ IMO.
Even my HD video camera only writes at 12MBs.

The only "precautions" I take are related to things that will effect IQ... a camera doesn't need to be clean or pretty on the outside to take a good photo... but, I am fairly obsessive about the inside. Aside from a blower, this doesn't involve anything you can buy. It's just a mindset and understanding of when and how stuff gets inside and the "rituals" required to limit that.
Of course I keep my gear in a well cleaned and padded case, to limit wear when not in use, but otherwise it's just a camera.... a reasonably priced and very sturdy one at that.

I don't know why you'd go with an extreme III when Ultra II's are a third the price and can be written to at much faster speeds than your camera can write to begin with (at least twice as fast).
Somewhere around here I found a breakdown of the buffer dump speed of a K20D and even it was under 7MBs which can easily be handled by the Ultra II.
That said, I have no idea if your camera is compatible with SDHC cards, but am glad to hear you're lookin at Sandisk.

And my first macro-ish shots to boot.
I don't normaly shoot flowers, but this the first color I've seen since I got my K200d, so it had to be done. Don't expect any more like these from me though:D
These are straight from the camera JPEGs shot with a SMC-M Macro f/4 100mm at f/6.7 otherwise the exif is there. I have a few other shots that I thought would be better w/ some PP, but have been ordered to wait till my shutter count reaches 9001 before I PP anything and I'll stick to that.
I know they're a little -ex, but thought the colors were much deeper than the lighter shots. Any input is appreciated.

Agreed... even the f/2 is decent and much cheaper.
But, the f/1.4 is one of the best and funnest lenses you're likely to find and it really is a good deal at $105. I had one a few years ago which I traded for an f/2 and a 28 f/2.8 which seemed like a good idea at the time.
I was actualy just at KEH myself looking at this lens.. and the FA. And trying to convince myself to see how the DA* 55 f/1.4 works out before dropping the money.

Haha... I've been a GC for 10 years.... well a bit longer of you count all the time I tried to fight it.
I hear your point, BUT I'd be willing to bet that you've never blamed that saw for poor workmanship. And I'd also bet that, as a professional, you simply replaced it with a suitable tool and didn't whine about it. And, finaly, I'd bet that if there was a gaint dial on the side of that saw, that controlled the direction it cut, you could probably manage a decent cut....... and still not whine about it.
The time I've dedicated and the ethic I have towards my trade leave me with zero patience for people who don't just shut up and do thier job(especialy electricians) and the fundemental skill of the "professional" is being able to do your job when your job is hard.

I'm kinda surprised too. I'm RH but left eye also. In archery and shooting sports I taught myself to aim with my right eye with both eyes open, it helps a lot with target "acquisition", but have found it difficult to focus a camera right eyed with both open and closing the left seems to leave it pretty much useless and numb feeling between shots. But, shooting left eyed with both open and my right eye obscured by the camera(which is too close to focus on) seems to work out great. Besides, it seems to be a more compact and stable position to boot. Portraits are another story.

That has got to be the whiniest thing I've ever read. All I could think the whole time is "why is a pro photog bitching about AF?" for real... I'm a total amateur and can still manage to focus a camera. What a douche-bag.
It doesn't matter what you do, carpenter, motocross racer, axe murderer... if you're blaming your equipment you've already lost.

exactly!!! the sensor is held in place by electromagnets that are only active when the power is on. If you shake your camera with the power off you can hear/feel the sensor move. I notice it a lot when I'm walking with it hanging in my hand.

By flat I mean visualy flat(lacking depth and detail). I'm certain it's the filter, but the highlights are too even and the shadows are too even, leaving a very 2 dimensional feel.... kind of the point with a polarizer. These are all decent shots which should have a lot of depth, but I simply don't get that from them.
Maybe it's my monitor... it's very subtle or, again, web etc...
I wish I could give a better answer, but I'm pretty new to this myself.... I just know what I see.
