It would be most helpful if people posting would also include if they are using
Snow Leopard or not. The consensus in most situations when there are problems
like this one, is that users that are having problems are running Tiger or Leopard
without the proper Apple updates.

Here you go My new rig. With the awesome "Made in Japan" high build quality 60mm
Nikkor lens......the lens that made me jump ship.

Sorry if I mis-represented I meant more of build quality and optics not the size of
the lens. But yes, it is very much built like a Pentax Limited. Using it tonight it is nothing
but astounding. I was once an owner of the Pentax 35mm Limited and the Nikkor is the
quality of the Limited in every way but at 60mm.

With my wife owning a D7000 now I just couldn't stand my K200 anymore seeing
for myself the results of 1600 ISO on newer cameras. I have never been one to
buy the latest camera, always a generation behind. With the D90 being phased
out I can say from what I am seeing here at home last night the D90 is still an
awesome camera, even up against the D7000.

Nothing against the K-7 however, it is a great little brick of a body. It was the
Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 "micro" lens that did it for me. This kind of lens that Nikon puts
out is and was my decision to jump camps. All of its specs along with an
aluminum body probably considered a "Limited" lens if it had a Pentax name on it
except its price is under $500.

Overall I have to say the D90 is a very impressive camera and already owning a
D50 at one time, jumping back into the Nikon menu system was a smooth
transition.

Purpose of this post besides my new purchase? It was the B&H Manhattan mega
store experience. I s*i* you not, the DSLR counter is approx. 100' long!
You stand in line looking at a large LCD flat screen TV waiting for the next avail
sales associate to pop up on screen telling you which one to go to. I have never
seen or experienced anything like it until yesterday.

You are correct, it was the ability to use higher capacity "SDHC" cards

I see the thread title has nothing to do with the problem which is scrutinizing a K200d
sensor. My pics would look like that also if I looked at them at 400%.

K5 as a Nikon d300s/7000 alternative

My wife has the D7000 and in quite mode the mirror slap up is quite, very quite compared to my K200d.
But you still hear it as far as being in church or a school play. Actually it's not that big of a difference
between quite and normal mode.

In normal shooting if you shoot 1/60 sec. or faster with the D7000, the mirror slap
up and down is so fast it sounds like 1 click anyway, just like a D300s.

Knowing what my wifes D7000 sounds like it would be impressive if the K-5 is that much quieter in quite
mode but then again she'll never use it nor' I'll never use it with a K-5 if I get one this spring. I'm looking at
a Canon 60D w/70-200 f/4 "L" lens for only a couple of hundred more than a K-5 body.

The best cleaning device on the market by far!!!!! It's what
the shops use and if you ever watched them it's way too easy
and way better than any wet clean system.

There is a video somewhere of a Leica technician using one of these at the
end of a production line on one of their medium format digital cameras.
I think it was a Leica S1.

If my sensor can't clean itself then I use my "sticky stick".

center weighted = Most of the time. Landscape shots, always.

spot = Hardly ever.

Multi segment = Maybe some indoor action shots but very rarely. Get away from it. Do you really want to be a better photographer?

You cannot adjust "EV compensation" with the AV button in manual mode.

It does change the Aperture if that is what you mean but EV will still fluctuate with the scene.

Memory card error

Just recently with my K200D I got the same errors on two different SanDisk class 4 cards. Never any problems for two years until now.

My problem was after turning on the camera with the grip on, firing off a photo
the screen would stay black and the blinking light would flicker for about a good
twenty seconds before I would get one of two messages "camera cannot save
photo" or "memory card error" which would then delete the whole card.

I have taken off the batt. grip hoping that has something to do with it since
I cannot get it to do it again with the grip off.

So far my opinion and my point is I do not think my similar problem to yours is the cards.
Even after reformatting. Unfortunately I think it is a camera problem.

For the point of money I hope it is a card problem for you but for two quality cards to do it
for me seems to be a camera issue.

Rechargeable batts DO NOT have the fast voltage recovery that lithiums do so,
you will see a low or dead battery on your display. More so than ever, when
shooting video with DSLRs you are going to have to use AA lithiums in your grips!!!!!

3-year extended warranty+repair/replacement for $300 for K-5

What a waste of money. You are betting $300 that you are going to have a problem.
Put the money towards a lens.

I have yet to hear of anyone (with proof) that got a “full replacement" after the
manufactures warranty ran out AND the problem for replacement was their own
fault like a drop or water damage, by putting in a claim to an extended warranty company,
even though they say you can make such a claim. Not with out the run around.

People view extended warranties like an insurance policy which, they are not.

Thats what I was trying to convey....iPhoto/Preview do not show shutter counts (Pentax)with a MAC. I have yet to see it anywhere using my 09' MAC Mini and the latest OS.

So with me "myshuttercount" is the way to go.

You are correct. They are TWO different descriptions.

K5 DXO marks creating a buzz on Sony forum

Although the K-5 is worthy of its praise with these high scores, how does a camera like the new Canon 60D get such excellent reviews but score so low in the High ISO results on the Dxo website?

The Canon 60D only scored a little better overall compared to my K200d. It makes me wonder how to interpret these scores (although, I know "only as a guide") into real world results.

Can't decide between Pentax & Canon

Pentax is bigger than you think as far as a worldwide camera company goes.
Pentax is more of a cautious brand coming out with products conservatively.

Keep in mind, although the lower end of Canon DSLR's get great reviews they are the bread
and butter of Canon profits. They are highest selling, most advertised, cheapest built, all
plastic, drop once and it's over, camera made. The new 60D and up is all I would ever buy if it
were to be a Canon.

K-5 battery problem? camera problem? user problem?
Posted By PinarelloOnly

Remember that there are only a few manufactures that make these batteries. They are batch tested and the top 5-10% go to the camera manufactures and the rest (bottom of the barrel) go to the 3rd party people willing to sell them.

With my wife's Nikon D50 she never had good results with 3rd party batts. You do get what you pay for.

I found the cheap rechargeable Li-Ions test well on the Fluke meter but the problem was always "recovery time". The 3rd party batteries never bounce back to the correct specs after fast shooting or using a flash.

As for the K-5 vs. K20D they are probably two totally different cameras when it comes the demand for stable voltage.

As to the above: Did you use 6 lithium (Energizer Ultra) AA's

K-7 and the opinions of high ISO shooting.

While waiting for the k5 to come out like the rest of us,
I did some soul searching and while I never gave the k7
a thought I started to read the pro reviews and past mag
articles from the library recently. Turns out from what I seen
and read that the k7 has put out some very good results
up against cameras like the D300s, 50D and even the 7D at
ISO 1600.

So why all the negitivity on here about the k7 in relation to
high ISO shooting? To me, it looks more and more like a bargain
at it's current price.

To all k7 owners about mirror blackout times

I myself would like to upgrade from my k200d to a k7 or k5 but after
handeling last weekend a new 60D and D300s I really was impressed
with the speed of mirror blackout times of both cameras. The 60D
really impressed me all around but the up and down of the mirror
was so fast it sound like one click not 2 distict clicks that you can hear
with my k200 which now seems so slow.
So my question, is the k7 that fast with the mirror even down to a
1/5 sec?
