K10D Lens Help / Dark pictures

I currently have the K10d with the kit lens (18-55mm) and have notices all my pictures are dark.

This has been going on since I got it almost a year ago. I actually sent it in to pentax and it came back the same way.

I just placed on an old lens from an old pentax SLR (Sigma 28-200 1:3.8-5.6 72mm) and the pictures seem to be much brigher with the same exact settings.

Here is my question:

I do not like how the older lens cannot focus close like the kit camera, but I do like how it is brigher and the pictures look nicer.

Will the sigma 18-200 DC correct this problem with light so i can use the camera in "Green" mode?

i think the newer sigma DC still has the problem on focusing on close objects 17.7" away.

Is there a lens that could address all these issues?

Any suggestions? I assume it is not the camera because the reviews for it are so good. I have never been happy with it and hope someone can help.

I have been having this problem since I purchased this camera about a year ago.

When I take pictures indoors it is very dark.

I set the camera to P mode and added +2 and then the pictures come out somewhat better.

To try to fix this I got the outboard flash.

When I take a picture with the flash on, it is darker than without the flash.

Also, with the flash on, the f changes to 13 in P more from 4 without the flash.

Is there a way to set this camera on an automatic mode that would fix this?

Green setting has the same problem, but usually darker because I cannot change the metering.

Any help would be appreciated before I put this camera on ebay in exchange for a Canon.
