Leya, I am a K10D user, although many of photographs of Scotland were taken with my old MZ50 on slide film.
Here's an example from the Isle of Skye. Taken from high in the Cuillin mountains.

Sigh,
You guys are not getting it.
Round filters are fine. But adapters rings for filter systems cannot sit flush with the end of this lens.
Round filters are useless as split ND grads.

Yes, lets not go down the line of "I don't need filters so it doesn't matter".
Most landscapers who know what they are doing will be using square holders with split NDs, particularly coastal photographers who photograph moving water using single exposures. This hood design will be certainly be a concern to them.

It will if you are using a square filter system (Lee, Cokin etc) where the adapter ring has to sit flush with the barrel.

It appears that the 15mm DA has a permanent hood which is retractable into the body. It sits between the barrel and the focus ring.
The problem is, in its retracted state as seen at Photokina, it still appears to protrude out from the front element, thereby blocking any filter system holders.
If this lens is to appeal to landscape photographers (as it surely must), this could be a big problem.
I just hope that it can be removed. However, Pentax claim it is an "integrated hood" so that doesn't seem likely.
Bad, very bad.

Thank you for those kind words.
I try to keep up with all things Pentax and I've been a dedicated user for the last 12 years. I ocassionally post to dpr to hopefully provide a bit a balance to all the techie stuff and hopefully show what Pentax gear is capable of. You might have seen the thread where I attempted do an in depth analysis between an image shot on my K10D and an identical image shot 100 years ago on a victorian box camera. The K10D won for dynamic range. That got a few laughs.
I have a few more caves to photograph to complete the project and there is another big one on Rathlin island that we'll probably go for in the dinghy again. I'm up in county Derry so I am very handy for the north coast (Donegal, Derry, Antrim). Cork is right in the south which, with Ireland's roads, is a long way !!

I'm another firm believer in the ND grad filter. I also use a straight 3 stop ND filter to slow down the exposures, an effect which cannot be replicated unless your camera goes down to on ISO of 12.
The effect of ND grads can be replicated in photoshop, but only by multiple exposure blending. To me, the single exposure is at the very heart of what photography is all about. I'm a photographer after all, not a cinematographer.
Shooting by the coast, the multple exposure route often won't work, particularly where the subject (the sea) is on the move. I also prefer to minimise my time spent in postprocess and many of my photographs are good to go, straight off the camera, with only minor RAW processing.
So it's filters for me.
As an example, here's my latest shot.
2 stacked ND grad filters. Three stop over sky and another 1 stop extending half way down down the frame. This shot required practically no post-process and the RAW was processed to JPG in under 30 secs.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
PDL, I did a lot of research to find some of the old views, photographs and etchings.
I didn't stick religously to the old material. If a better vantage point was available then I took it. But the main idea was that my new photographs would compliment the old artwork and would be in a similar style.
Straightshooter, you will enjoy the photography on offer all down the atlantic west coast. Fantastic light in the evenings. I don't know those areas terribly well but I've visited Galway a few times and you will love it out west there.

I managed to get a 4 page feature of my cave project published in AP magazine this week. All of these were taken with my K10D and 14mm and 16-45mm DA lenses.
And you even get a free K200D review !!
It's in the shops now (31st of May issue)
The project will also be featured in the Pentax User Magazine published in July.

My project might interest you because all the images were shot on a Pentax K10D. The project is seeing a lot of interest from the UK photomags and is set to be published shortly.
HDR is used to good effect in this project. But the real challenge is accessing these caves safely using climbing and kayaking techniques. Many have never been photographed before.
