cb705r - Waaaayyyyyyy too funny. And only because it hits close to home. Same little debate going on in my mind but I just gave the go ahead for winter tires on my wife's van to the shop an hour ago.

I've been through this problem. I'm now shooting exclusively in RAW and using Lightroom.
Here's a few random thoughts:
- The Pentax software yielded nicer images with less effort than Lightroom at first. Then I got the hang of Lightroom and started to see the significant limitations of the Pentax software.
- Selecting "Camera Standard" in the Camera Calibration menu in the Develop mode seemed to yield better images. (I'm using a K20). Figuring this out was a Eureka moment.
- I was very used to punchy and colourful .jpgs straight out of the camera. Thats all I had looked at for years. Took a while before I got used to looking at something other than a .jpg
- Good point already made about calibrating your monitor. Every month or so I reset my monitor's settings. Colour + brightness settings can wander over time. I don't have calibration equipment (yet??)
- I often just play with Clarity, Vibrance and Saturation to pump up the colour.
Looks like you've got some great landscapes to shoot. I hope you find it worth the effort to find some software you like to help you do some interesting and creative work.

I've been playing with my old school macro lens on my K20 recently. I find myself using this lens quite a bit - for macros of course, but also as a walkaround. Something satisfying about taking your time to get a good shot with a manual lens.
BTW, I goofed in the title - the lens is really F2.8 - not 3.5.... my bad!
A little tweaking + cropping in Lightroom.

+1 on the Crumpler strap. I've had it for a couple weeks.
I carry the camera around a lot outside waiting for that perfect shot while my kids are playing. (haven't got that shot yet.... keep waiting) I hardly notice that I'm carrying the camera any longer. Very, very comfortable.

Check at a grocery store that carried President's Choice merchandise. There are PC brand rechargeable batteries which are white label eneloops. I can't recall the exact price but they are very reasonable. So check the grocery store - its the best deal going on eneloop batteries.
I've used these batteries with an AF360 flash and with a K-M with good battery life.

I ran into a similar problem. There is a thread somewhere with advise that goes something like this:
Select one of the chinese languages on the install screen rather than English (or French??) and with any luck your install will proceed. Don't worry about selecting one of the chinese languages as your computer's default language setting will be applied.

I would steer you towards the FA 50mm 1.4. They're easily available and relatively cheap. I'm always taking pics of my kids as well and auto-focus is necessary as they get quicker. With this lens you'll get all the speed you can handle. I've also got the A series 50mm f/2 lens. It lets in plenty of light in my opinion. I've not had much success getting "action" shots of the kids with it though. I've taken some excellent night shots of posed/seated adults however.
If you go the manual focus route you may want to consider something a little longer than the 50mm for shots of your daughter. Maybe a 100mm or 135mm? Keep an eye on the marketplace as many interesting lenses come up.
BTW - this is how lens buying addiction (LBA) starts. Good luck.

I would like to trade for one of the fine Sigma or Tamron f2.8 lenses or a Pentax 16-45mm. Trades could be plus/minus cash to make for a fair trade.
This 40mm lens is fantastic but I primarily take shots of my kids and find my foot zoom doesn't work as well as a "real" zoom.
Please PM me with any trade proposals. Thanks.

I certainly don't intend this to sound like gloating, but I did get a 40mm limited last week. When word on the forum started heating up about the price hikes I ordered from The Camera Store in Calgary. Shortly after I ordered their website showed "out of stock" and still does. Perhaps I grabbed one of the last ones they had. Anyways, I paid a fair price and it was shipped within hours.
I ordered Friday afternoon and received it Monday. I want to put in a good word for a Canadian retailer... we generally don't tell people often enough when we've had a good experience.

Good question - I just got this lens a few weeks ago and am really enjoying it. I don't have a hood for mine. I was thinking of getting a 58mm rubber collapsible hood.
Anyways, for the answer, Pentax clip-on hood: RH-A60. Info sourced from the link below. F 35-135/3.5-4.5
Please post if you're able to loacte one easily + cost. Thanks.

I recently was fortunate enough to pick up this wonderful lens on the cheap. It covers enough range to fill the frame with the kids (my favorite subject matter!). I'm plenty pleased with the results I've been getting in the 3 weeks I've owned this lens.

Well, just pulled the trigger on a 40mm from The Camera Store. I wasn't planning on buying this yet, but early Happy Bday to me! Good thing I recently e-filed my tax return and I've got a good sized refund coming.
I've been dreaming about the DA* 50-135 but guess I'll kiss that one goodbye.

10 minutes ago I checked Aden's online price for a DA 40mm and nearly fell outta my chair! So of course I headed straight to Pentaxforums and found this thread.
Prodigital's BIN price went up recently from $249 to $279. I don't like where this is going....

When I remember I've normally turned SR off. I've mostly been using this outside on bright days with fast shutter speed. I believe SR is of little value anyways with shutter speed set fast, such as 1/1000. I've normally just selected 35mm when prompted for focal length.
Does anyone know the definitive answer: Should the correct focal length be input? I'm glad this was brought up. I've wondered about this.
