After months of planning and anticipation, my hike along the Na Pali coast of Kauai came to fruition. Below are some images I took during my stay in paradise. If you ever have the chance, I highly recommend a visit to this beach, preferably by foot. Even if you think you don't "have the chance" I would suggest finding room in your schedule/budget. In case you are not familiar with the Kalalau valley, I have included a link to the Wikipedia page: Kalalau Valley - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and Kalalau Beach - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All images were taken with a Pentax k100d and either 10-20mm Sigma or 18-55mm Pentax. Circular polarizer and 3stop soft ND filter were used with the Sigma when needed. Post processing was performed using Lightroom 2.
Lets get this hike started. Sunrise at Ke'e Beach, the trail head.
#1
The hike gets a bit tricky in some places. Some parts of the trail are roughly 6" wide, including over this part.
#2
Not a bad campsite.
#3
Sick of the sun? Try rock stacking. Some were 7 rocks high, vertically stacked.
#4
Some of my favorite shots from the beach.

just a random note about the price point for the US market...
Tekade also lists the 15mm limited @ 679 euros...or roughly $875 US
Adorama is selling this lens for $579....about a 33% discount from the European site...
If we use the same logic...I anticipate this camera will come in around $1,300 US...roughly the same as the k20d when it was released....
lift the embargo!!

For a place on the dry Colorado plains, Denver has many beautiful bridges.
C+C is greatly appreciated...
Sigma 10-20mm @ 10mm f16, Lightroom work on levels, warming filter
Sigma 10-20mm @ 10mm f16, Lightroom work on levels, warming filter
M series 50mm 1.4 @ f8, Lightroom work on levels, warming filter, Photomatix 2 image HDR
I am debating back and forth between a switch to a Nikon d200. Not quite sure I would see very much improvement over the trusty k100d

item listing now reflects answers to questions. I apologize for listing the 50mm as A series at first, this is definitely an M series lens.

Pentax 50mm 1.4 M K mount with box Asking Price
100 Item Description
I am selling a wonderful Pentax M series 50mm 1.4 lens. This lens includes original packaging and styrofoam. This lens looks like it was produced yesterday with no flaws on the body or optics whatsoever. Some slight finish wear on the mount, but hardly noticeable.
If I cannot garner a trade (plus $$$ of course) for nikon gear, I will consider the next best offer.
My only reference for price was ebay, Pentax M 50mm f1.4 SMC Lens * K mount - eBay (item 270333391188 end time Mar-21-09 19:03:24 PDT)
Photos and samples coming tonight. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

I have decided to return the Fuji and keep my k100d. The difference was clearly night and day between the control and feel of the two cameras, but the business end (the picture output) was far too similar to justify the switch. Tests were performed using a nikkor 50mm 1.8, sigma 10-20mm and tamron 24-120mm. Though the images were excellent, they were not that much better than the k100d.
I am no expert in testing lenses/cameras, but I could hardly notice the dynamic range increase the s5 supposedly presents. I shot raw, jpeg, photo mode and the difference was quite negligible.
I will continue looking for a new body as I will require weatherproofing before a trip I am taking in May, but in the meantime will enjoy the little Pentax.

I love my k100...its just I grow tired of its quirks and lack of accurate color rendition...in my opinion i would like a camera that produces saturated rich colors (without messing to mech in PP) with a pro(er) body....
SOOC = straight out of camera
back to the topic...k20d or s5?

Yes yes, another Pentax vs XYZ thread, however, I am in need of help. I currently own a pentax k100d and am pretty unimpressed with the results I have been getting; a phenomenal intro dslr, but lacking in SOOC quality and the colors lack pop. I have never shot with * glass, and dont intend to make a lens purchase >$500.
My question revolves around this, if you could choose between the Pentax k20d and the Fujifilm S5, at the exact same pricepoint, which would you choose, all other things being equal (disregarding glass at this point).

some more test shots from today (overcast and 30 degrees)...I am unsure if I am going to keep this lens...mixed AF results and very poor results with the 2x TC. However, dull lighting plus dull subjects equals dull pictures...maybe I am expecting too much from this $150 lens? Please give me some realistic feedback...

I just got my BH Sigma 400mm f5.6...took some test shots and am learning this lens really needs to be stopped down to take quality shots. Will continue to post test images of this lens for users interested in purchasing this cheap (and fairly underrated) lens. |

Im going to keep the lens for now (only 15 bucks!) and have some fun with it. I will buy a minolta 1.4 or 1.7 TC and custom drill a k mount onto the TC. Worst comes to worst i will have trashed a crappy QT II Lens worth about $5....
