Completed the survey. Basically said they dropped 2 (Q, 645) of the 3 Pentax systems I use. Unfortunately, this will make it very difficult to interest me in any new camera.
Thanks,

This is the worst type of problem to troubleshoot and fix. It would be easier if it just blew up. There is no way the repair person is going to have access to all your lenses to verify it works after repair. I feel sorry for the repairer and you.
Good luck,

Pentax Q7 with #06 telezoom. 45mm ISO 200 F2.8 1/80. Wish I'd had camera set to ISO 400 but wasn't expecting to see a raccoon when looking over the bridge side.
Thanks for looking,

I understand both sides. Unfortunately, Pentax no longer makes medium format cameras. Ran into the same problem years ago with the Pentax Point & Shoot contest forum. To keep it alive we allowed all brands, even cellphones. No one seemed to care. The contest still survives and is even mentioned in the Pentax forums e-mails. We are grateful for that.
It stings that the company responsible for driving Pentax out of the medium format market now has a large presence here. On the other hand, at least our Pentax lenses are useable on Fuji. With Pentax leaving the market it is hard to not feel a little sad.
How about PentaxForums? Since two moderators shoot Pentax 645Z and frequent this thread, I doubt posting pictures from other camera brands is officially frowned upon. We should also consider the welfare of PentaxForums. With Pentax leaving the Q and medium formats and the encroaching cellphones it can't be as easy to break even on these forums. More visitors are better. There are prize giveaways and even weekly email updates on content posted here. Do we really want to reduce posts and weaken this fine home?
I enjoy the forum and the medium format pictures and hope it stays as is.
Thanks,
barondla

This was a difficult competition to judge. All the images are strong and well executed. The two runner ups are Ariff's mountain scene and sjstafford's lovely cloud image. Both are beautiful photos.
The winner is rm2's amazing picture. The composition is spectacular. The photographer only had a split second to balance so many subject elements. Wonderful capture. Now rm2 gets to set up and run competition #191.
Thanks to everyone that participated in this competition. All the photos were excellent. Hope you join us for the next one.

The stock K-1, like all consumer cameras, has IR & UV filters over the sensor. The amount of filtration varies by camera brand and even model. An unmodified K-1 needs about twice the IR light as the old 6mp Pentax ist DS. With the modified K-1 I can shoot handheld with a Hoya R72 IR filter at about F8, ISO 100 at 1/125. Before modification this would take many seconds of exposure.
The modified camera gains more the further down in UV you record, until it reaches a certain point. Most stock cameras are dropping fast near 400nm. Modified cameras can approach 300nm.
Kolari Vision removes the hot mirror IR/UV filter and replaces it with a clear filter of the same thickness. The replacement filter maintains the infinity focus of the lenses. The sensor shift image stabilization still works.
UV photos have many uses both scientific and creative. In macro photos there is 30% higher resolution because of the shorter wavelengths of light. UV multiplies atmospheric conditions and often allows fog in scenics - even on bright clear days. It can be used to see where buildings and cars have been repaired. Many flowers show a dark center spot that guides UV sensitive bugs to the nectar. UV has a different look than IR. IR tends towards the light zones and UV is king of the shadows.
Check out the UV & IR photo galleries at ultravioletphotography.com. Some amazing stuff and you don't have to be a member to browse.

Glass, dye, and coatings can all reduce UV light. The most effective UV filters are Tiffen Haze 2E and Zeiss. These filters are used by fluorescence photographers. This uses UV illumination, in a dark room, to cause subjects to fluoresce. UV light is removed to allow the much weaker fluorescence to be recorded.
Multi coatings are designed to enhance certain light. This means other light is going to be reduced or eliminated. Great UV lenses usually have zero or very simple coatings.
There are over 400 kinds of optical glass. They have different UV transmission. Shine a 365 nm UV flashlight thru a lens and see how it darkens and starts to become opaque.
I shoot a Pentax K-1 modified by Kolari Vision to be full spectrum. Some of the best affordable UV lenses are simple primes with 3-5 lens elements and few if any coatings. These are called "accidental" UV lenses. Dark room enlarging lenses like the Nikon EL-Nikkor also work well because Kodak Polycontrast and Ilford Multigrade B&W paper used UV to change contrast.
The best UV lenses are built out of quartz. The Nikon 105 UV lens (~$7k) records UV below 250nm. The best accidental and enlarging lenses manage 310-330nm.

Voted no - happy with film cameras I already have. If my Pentax 67, PZ 1, LX , Leica CL, M2,3,4P, Olympus OM 4Ti can't get me to shoot film, what chance does this new Pentax camera have? I've never shot the Contax T2 sitting in the drawer.
My favorite film - Kodachrome died years ago. Then Ektachrome died. Can't stand LSD like Velvia. I no longer have a darkroom - it played havoc with my allergies. Ektachrome is back now, so I might shoot a roll in the T2.
Truthfully, now that Pentax deep sixed their 645 system, they have little that interests me anymore.
Thanks,
barondla
