The death of The Soft K5 urban legend

Well folks:)..don't want to get it to long..yesterday I bought my K-5:)..

My first Pentax camera was the k200d..I kept and keep paraising it's CCD sensor (the same as in the K10D) and when I bought the K-x a year ago I was really disapponited about its low iso output compared to the k200d's due to lack of sharpness and lack of 3D effect to my taste (really love it's high iso high DR though). So I used the following kit: k200d with da12-24 for landscape, boats (my favourite) and the K-x with the da55-300 for birds and for different perspective.

Just came back from the local port..K-5 with da12-24 and guess what..I am relly really happy!! The few pictures I took resembles very much to the k200d in terms of sharpness and doesn't have that digital look the K-x produces..and it is sharp!

and the nameplate on the end of the boat in a 100% crop:

please don't forget that this is a wide lens. The picture was taken at12mm f9 iso100 1/15, focuspoint at the nose of the boat.

Thanks for reading and looking! Opinions are really welcomed!:)

My 16-50 got a real workout at South Georgia a year ago (shot with 60-250/4):

In those conditions, I obtained this:

Both cameras were K-7.

Macro Ridiculous and totally crazy!

OK, I'm sure a couple of you out there may want to slap me for this but I wanted to find out how far I could extend macro tubes before the results were no longer usable.

I've asked on the forum before and many people were very helpful in providing me with the necessary equations to work out the magnification. I wanted to know what the real-world usable maximum was. So I got my scissors and tape, collected a bunch of toilet paper rolls and made the most stupid length tube I could, using my existing 50mm of tubes as mounts.

I know the construction sucks, they're not perfectly straight and there was light leaking in but screw it! I got the results I wanted and now I'll go buy the proper tubes for the length I want! The total length of my ridiculous construct is about 15 inches (mount to mount) and working distance from the lens was the same as usual at about 2 inches.

Here are the results!

In case you're wondering, those are my fingerprints! There is a slight blur because if you move even a micron, it shows.... You're heartbeat is enough to move you a micron.

The last shot is the mm of a ruler :)

Fellow cavers recently made a huge discovery. An underground river that is obviously a missing part of a cave system.

-1-
The entrance to the cave was just a small hole at first.

-2-
These narrow passage had to be secured with steel bars.

-3-
Down a 100m shaft.

-4-
Delicate cave formations. Note that the girl is in socks. We picked up too much mud on our boots earlier in the cave and didn't want to contaminate this part.

-5-
Large galleries deeper in the cave.

-6-
Galleries rich with cave formations

The fruits of a month in the Philippines. For those familiar with the country, the route was: Manila - Palawan - Panay - Tablas - Romblon - Sibuyan - Tagaytay - Manila.

Pentax K10D
DA15mm (saw the most use by far - awesome lens)
DA18-55mm WR (very, very useful when it rains - and it rains a lot in the philippines)
I also had the A28mmf2.8, A50mmf1.7 and DA35mmf2.8 with me, but I seldomly used them.

We had the most intense thunderstorm of this summer yesterday. I shot this just before it rolled over our place.
I was really lucky to have also that lightning in the picture. :)

Landscape Overland Track June '10

Here's a follow-up to last year's winter Overland Track trip (see the photos here https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/post-your-photos/104036-landscape-overlan...june-09-a.html). This year we did the track south-north (backwards) and took a bit longer, so we had plenty of time to do some side-trips and so on. For this year's trip I'd switched my kit over to Olympus 4/3 (for a variety of reasons).

Enjoy!

Uganda does not have the game reserves filled with animals as you will find them in Tanzania, Kenia, Zambia or Botswana.
However, there are a few areas where the game is returning slowly.

Here a few pictures of what we found:

Shoebill:

Bush elephant (smaller than African Elephant, aggressive and almost black):

Tree lion:

Crocodile:

Storks:

The abundant Uganda Cob:

Couple of images from my trip this week. I thought the first one was meant for B&W due to the dark and light shadows throughout the image. JIM

I took this during my lunch break yesterday in hard mid-day sunlight. The colors and textures appealed to me. This was grabbed quite quickly as I was standing in a busy alley with cars driving by. Click on the image for larger sizes.

Just another boring old sunset folks. Aperture was F7.1 (haven't forgotten Marc).

I am going to try and print this one up, but have made one (big) mistake, I shot at iso 800, not paying attention, when I should have used iso 100. Hopefully it will clean up enough for at least a decent sized canvas.

Here's hoping you enjoy natures artistry.

Cheers
Grant
