Thank you everybody!
I have just walked in from another gig, as usual i mainly used the 1ds for the stage work and then the k20d in the far darker nightclub around the corner.
I only tried using the 1ds in the club once and it was a nightmare (another forum perhaps)
I started manually focusing the pentax tonight and even though the subject is almost completely in the dark my eyesight is still good and i can see the hard edges of focus.
Cant help but think i would get a better auto result out of a 40d though... thoughts anybody?
If comments in this thread are correct the 40 should have a built in 'assist lamp'
ps im selecting the focal point.
Cheers

way too dark for quick manual focus in the club.
My 1ds mk2 peforms focus much better in the Band atmosphere (more light), pentax is slow.
yet i find the 1ds hunts more than the pentax in the dark clubs but the pentax is out of focus when it fires...

It seems to have a very hard time focusing in low light (no flash, sigma 30mm 1.4).
i shoot in clubs and bands.
i have tried both auto modes (one is better than the other, cant remember the abbreviation)
anybody else having a hard time with this?
is it typical?
Anybody got a solution or advice?

thanks Ovim!
On ebay there are plenty of listings for a generic 1000 f8 for only a ouple of hundred dollars buy it now.
Am i to assume these are a considerably inferior product?

Can anybody tell me what i should pay for a 1000mm F8?
It is in reasonable condition with a few marks on the external metal.
There is a few smallish blooms of fungus on the first couple of elements which doesnt seem to be effecting the image and should be cleaned easily enough (is this expensive?)
It comes in its own felt lined aluminium case.
Much appreciated everybody.

Everything i have read tells me the 1.7 is sharper wide open and up to 2.8, 90% of my band shooting happens there...
Are you aware of this fact?
Do u know something i dont?

I have been here a couple of weeks, I just saw this section.
Im stoked with the k20.
I have a sexy studio in paradisical Byron Bay with Alladino heads, Balcar packs and big lucifero windowlights, flown via Manfrotto crank stands. Perfect for shooting the big stuff.
Have a couple of pair of mono's and a set of 600w portable lighting too (battery powered)
I shoot bands for love/fun.
Im grateful this site exists as my experience with pentax gear is minimal.
If you want to ask a Question fire away!

Ummm Mate are you suggesting i go 1.4? or did you misread? Big night??
Based on reviews im inclined to get a 1.7 as they are said to be sharper wide open.

Might start with a 1.7 for bands, it seems it will be sharpest up to f2 and slightly beyond, the quicker focussing will be handy too.
Good chance the 43 will be acquired for the studio, unless the 55mm produces phenomenal results... I would prefer the FF potential of the 43, The company who would be king....
Thank you everybody.
