Most probably has nothing to do with it but give all possibilities a shot . At one point I had a problem shooting (powered on but could not release the shutter) and after trying various troubleshooting techniques I still couldn't get it to shoot. After feeling sick about it, I decided to just take off the lens and re-attach it. Voila! Somehow, it seems the connected lens was pressed against something while in the bag and ever so slightly moved out of its properly connected position. I usually take care of my camera but these things do happen.
This may not work, especially if you could shoot as you have stated but I guess all attempts could help you determine the culprit. Hope you find you're solution!

Definitely visit the old city. Chateau Frontenac is the probably the most recognized site in Quebec City and is worth it. And as Denis states, the promenade lends to impressive views. You could also just walk around and almost always find a nice shot to take especially if you like architecture. It's a like having a European city in North America. A wonderful place indeed.
PS. if you have more than a day and would like to see one if the tallest water falls in North America, Montmerency Falls may be a good side trip which is a few minutes away from Quebec City.

Ah... the old Bronx River. One normally wouldn't think nature shots when the subject is in the Bronx; street photography is more likely. Actually, the BX has lots of green spaces and wonderful parks come to think of it. Been awhile since I was there.
Nice pics, especially the silky motion of the waterfall.

Gimbal,
A little off topic, yeah I drive a Nissan and it rides well. I've just noticed that most things I own electronic-wise are Japanese manufactured (Toshiba,Sony, Onkyo, Pentax, Panasonic, etc.). I am probably a Japan fanboy! I am dying to go to Tokyo someday. Well, just about everything else I own is made in China, lol. Can't get around that it seems.
As to your Citroen, I like French wine and pastries too, lol.

Gimbal,
Sorry if I sound disrespectful but I don't think you understand that you are viewing a PENTAX forum. Of course you're gonna see fanboyism but I think most will say not the blind type. This is no different from other forums of other brands where you will read the same kind of posts and responses. This is not exclusive to this forum or any other if you choose to leave.
This is not blind loyalism although maybe loyalty on the part of consumer and company is part of the reason why Pentax has been around for many decades in such a competitive and shifting market.
Objectivity in a pure sense is hard to achieve as long as there is a human element involved. Good luck finding that somewhere else.
BTW, I own a Toshiba television, drive a Nissan, Panasonic superzoom, Sony P&S, Minolta SLR, XBOX 360, and I built my own computer with different brand parts. I say very nice things about them even though they act up now and them but then it's sometimes due to my own ignorance or error. Still speaking highly about them doesn't makes me a fanboy just an appreciative owner. But then if that's what it means then I am what I am!
Thanks.

steffi,
You're gonna get little agreement on your kind of observations on a Pentax forum, so why even post them? Especially after so few days of experiencing the camera under limited conditions. This is not a point and shoot but an advanced serious amatuer camera.
What comes to mind after reviewing your posts is a novice with questionable skills (shutter lag on a 3 fps camera?). This is fine and most on this board will oblige and help a newbie out. However, will not tolerate one who probably doesn't know how to handle the camera yet and somewhat disparages the camera because of dissapointing results due to their lack of said skill.
With all do respect, even if you have decades of experience using cameras, there is a learning curve with this camera, especially if you're new to Pentax. Play with it some more and try to understand its advanced features and you'll see its true potential and value.
Good luck in your search for the camera that fits your needs.

Steven,
Thanks for this nice write-up of your experience in one of the most fantastic places I had the pleasure of visiting. It is truly a magnificent country.
Sometimes you have to find out the hard way that you brought too much equipment. However, it's probably a better scenario than missing out on opportunities due to limitations. Last time I was in Europe, I took hundreds of photos with a point and shoot. Yes, a point and shoot....arrrgh. Imagine my dismay when I processed them when I returned. So many wasted photos and opportunities.
I plan to go back to a few more European cities (including Venice...very excited!) in May and this time I'm gonna be strapped with my K10D, limited pancakes, and a 50mm A 1.7. Your posting has helped confirm my plan.
Thanks.

This is getting more interesting by the day. Seems like Pentax will try to prevent this merger or acquisition. I read somewhere they may even employ the "poison pill" strategy.
They seem to be upset over the distrust of the president and the plan from the start. Plus the idea of Hoya selling off the camera division. asahi.com : Pentax chief to resign over Hoya merger rift - ENGLISH |

I just received mine this week. Completed my DA limited collection. It is a really sharp lens and I am becoming a big fan of the focal length which I find to be just right for most casual shots.
I thought this would finish my LBA but sadly it hasn't, oh well.

Not a very big deal, but today I was watching ESPN Sportscenter baseball highlights of yesterday's Boston Redsox vs. Kansas City Royals game. The game was widely publicized here in the States because it's the first pitching appearance of the official season for Japanese pitching phenom, Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Now baseball fans would probably know that the 1st row wall, behind homeplate is where large advertisement banners are posted, like they do around the stadiums in other sports venues, e.g. soccer, etc., however in baseball this is "prime real estate" because this is arguably the most focused on television camera view which makes the banner(s) prominent.
So, long story short, as Daisuke was pitching there was a large red and black PENTAX banner easily viewable! This may be nothing major to some, but it is good to know that Pentax is advertising in major sporting venues. Now, I'm not sure if the game was televised nationally here in the States, but it was an well-hyped game that was at least televised in Boston and Kansas City, and I believe JAPAN! Also, it made it on ESPN Sportcenter which is national b/c it's cable tv and is shown throughout the day.
The only downside is that the Redsox won and Daisuke looks like he's gonna be a Yankee killer :-) (Yes, I'm a Yankee fan!)

Thank you all for your responses. I sort of like the contrast more on the second although the first is slightly more sharp and detailed.
Thanks again!

I finished processing a very nice shoot recently. There's this one picture that I have two versions of, and I can't decide which one I should choose to show in my portfolio.
So, please help me decide which one is more appealing. As you will see the first version is lighter and the second is a bit more contrast, darker shadows. The difference is subtle but as you know can make a difference. Your comments are welcomed.
Thanks.

Just thought I should post this review for those who are interested in entertaining a future purchase of the DA 70 Limited, as well as for those who already own it and need more fuel to brag about it.
If it has already been posted, please pardon!
Enjoy,

Ditto. I bought the A 50mm 1.7 for 90 USD shipping included about 1 1/2 months ago. Wish I paid less but don't regret it. It's that good!

I bought my A 50mm 1.7 off ebay for 90 USD. I've heard others who've purchased it for much less others who've paid more. Not sure I would pay too much over 100 USD though. It is an excellent prime. Bought this over the 50mm 1.4 because I wanted a bargain. Don't regret it for a minute.
I recently took this lens on a trip to the Yucatan, along with the DA 16-45 and DA 50-200 and must say that my sharpest and most optically pleasing shot was with the A-50mm. Now I have it on my K10D most of the time. Also, has given me an insatiable need to shoot with primes. Just purchased and am waiting for the 21mm and 70mm Ltds. Yes, I'm broke (ouch!) but I can't wait to break-in these fine pieces .

My problem is that I tend to persuade myself to buy a lens after a few too many drinks. Just bought a 70mm limited; just hope I won't be upset tomorrow when I'm sobered up . Is there such a thing as LBA anonymous?
