Somehow I missed this thread, but nicely Photolady95 pointed me this way! I shave shot quite a few macros over the years (Starting with the *ist DS back in 2005) , and here are some of my faves.

Great Blue Skimmer, Libellula vibrans (3 shots focus stacked)

Southern Pine Sawyer Beetle, Monochamus titillator

Nut Weevil, genus Curculio

Paper wasps, Mischocyttarus mexicanus cubicola, AKA Double Trouble!

Grizzled Mantis, Gonatista grisea

Northern Dusk Singing Cicada, Megatibicen auletes

Juniper Stink Bug, Banasa euchlora

And this one from this week is the Black Caterpillar Hunter, Calosoma sayi

I have a lot more here

Macro Weird Visitors to My Porch Light, a Celebration of Macrophotography.

I had plans on working on my landscape photos this year. Coronavirus19 had other plans, and now that I find my non working (essential personnel) hours stuck at the house, I am focusing on macro and shooting the visitors to my porch light. All were taken with the Pentax KP, an old Tamron 90mm Macro, and a Bolt flash.

Black Caterpillar Hunter Beetle, Calosma sayi

American Green Tree Frog, Dryophytes cinereus

Long Legged Fly, possibly Dactylomyia lateralis

Black Dancer Damselfly, Argia fumipennis

A nice coppery colored beetle, Chlaneius tomentosus

Grape Leafroller Moth, Desmia funeralis

The Pegasus Chalcoela Moth, Chalcoela pegasalis, an interesting moth whose larvae are parasites on Paper Wasps.

The Orchard Spider, Leucauge venusta

Banded Watersnake Nerodia fasciata (really was not expecting to see a snake at my back door, but this small example has been hanging around)

I think he really likes Pentax, and watching to the end, where he shows off his collection, I think that as snarky as he can be, he really wants the brand to succeed. Just my .02 as a new KP owner

The bad news and the (mostly) good news.

The bad news is that my beloved K-01 is dying (sticking shutter) and will likely cost more to get it fixed than it is worth. I adored the K-01 for and not in spite of it's design, it took amazing photos and my only complaint revolved around it not having and EVF for bright light.

Fortunately I use the K-01 mostly as a macro camera, and to take photos of my wife's Polymer Clay Artwork. I say fortunately as when I told her the K-01 was dying, she said see what a new camera would cost. :D:D:D

Thanks to B&H the good news is that I am now the proud owner of a KP, and it's the first new (not used) camera I have owned since the *Ist DS! I love the retro look of it, the number of dials, and the adjustable handgrip (I have huge hands and ergonomics is a big thing for me), and am pleasantly surprised at its size. I only wish that the old style leather half cases were still in vogue like the one my Dad has on his old ME Super!

I am very excited to get out and about with it and put it through it's paces, but in thanks to my wife's enabling of my GAS, the very first photos I took were of one of her "Dragon's Eggs" that she is making as a gift. (my studio lighting and backdrop needs work, I know )

While peak color has passed for many folks north of us, it's just hitting its stride here in South Georgia.

A tip for those of you chasing Fall color, I find that using a polarizing filter really helps to make the colors pop.

I try not to over do HDR, but I really like the way this one came out, The model is Melody, a 5 year old Maine Coon, who can, with enough cat nip, be persuaded to sit still for pictures

Landscape Summer Skies I: The First of a Series.

I've been away for a while, thought I would return with a series I have been working on this Summer. The weather in South Georgia this Summer has been very active. Afternoon thunderstorms are a daily occurrence, and this often results in dramatic skies. Most of these images are panoramas, merged in Lightroom, and post processed in Silver Efex Pro.

I know for many Northern Hemispherians that it is the depths of Winter. While Winter has it's own beauty, it sometimes makes us nostalgic for warmer days. This panorama is from July, when the skies were filled with billowing towers of Gulf of Mexico fueled convection.

Here are several shots of a Blue Dasher, Pachydiplax longipennis, which allowed me to approach very closely with my K-01, Tamron 90mm macro, and old Sigma flash. The first image is the product of 2 shots focus stacked in Helicon Focus.

Full body images as well as some others from a small walk I took today can be viewed here (some of the non macro images were taken with a Sony Nex-3n)

I have recently been hired as lead photographer for a rather rambunctious black Maine Coon kitten . As many of you have pointed out, black cats are rather difficult to shoot. Aside from the near constant movement have noticed that they have a tendency to either blend in with their environment, or plop down in areas of extreme contrast (sun beam.

I shoot this cat with a Sony Nex-3n (my carry everywhere camera) fitted with the 16-55mm kit lens and a Pentax K-01 fitted most of the time of late with a Tamron 90mm macro. Neither camera has the best autofocus speed, but I am slowly getting more and more adept at using the manual Focus on the Tamron lens for photos such as these.

My beloved *Ist DS started acting up some months ago and after quite a bit of debate between purchasing a used Pentax DSLR and the K-01 I decided on the K-01, I'm quite happy with my little brick and it's ability to take very nice pictures :D
