They'll work Perfectly!
And, due to the fact that Pentax puts their image stablizers in the camera body, rather than in the lens, you'll even get shake reduction on your old lenses!
bet thats something your nikon buddies can't brag about! :P

I have the Tamrac Adventure 9, which is very similar, except mine doesn't have the fast access zipper. It's build really well, and has stood up to daily use for a year now.
To address on bdery's concerns:
On mine, there is a fairly sturdy hip strap, but it isn't padded in any way, so it isn't the most comfortable if you have a heavy pack.
It is however missing the holder for the tripod, and hydration pouch (adventure 9 has a holder for a water bottle on the side, this one doesn't look like it does though).
The laptop compartment makes this pack very convenient for the studio, or other shoots where you'll want computer access, but possibly not the best pack for outdoors trekking.

I second Ash's opinion!
I've owned used the DA55-300, and the Quantaray 70-300, and borrowed the DA50-200 for a while...The DA55-300 beats them both, (but between the two cheaper lenses, i'd say DA50-200 is still a better quality lens)

Thanks!
Anyone else think the eagle looks a little sad in the second shot? or is it just my imagination?

Hi All!
The Vancouver Aquarium is currently running a really neat bird show featuring a bald eagle, a red tailed hawk, and a turkey vulture. (i swear i don't work for them!)
If you can fight the crowds off you can get nice and close to the birds.
#1
#2
#3
These three were taken with a DA 55-300 on my K200D
It doesn't feel quite as rewarding as photographing birds in the wild, but it's still a great opportunity to get some close-ups on (slightly) better behaving birds...
Looking forward to hear what you think!
Cheers,
Ryan

anyone know if the tokina lens in question is the same internally as a Magnicon 70-210?
(sorry, not trying to hijack your thread, but I don't want to start a new thread for something small...)

Thanks for the tips,
was looking forward to ruins, but I'll settle for cathedrals and beaches. :)
From the sound of things, I might be better off without the ship tours.
From your experience are the areas just outside the touristy areas safe to travel with a small group? Anything else I should know regarding safety (other than not drinking the water!).
I'm planning on picking up a DA 55-300, and I purchased a FA 50 1.4 yesterday.
and with that rounding out my 'arsenal' I think I might be ready!
Thanks again for all the advice!

RioRico:
we'll be on a Royal Caribbean ship, but we will be hitting Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and one other port of call.
I don't think I'll have to worry about vendors separating me from my money, i won't have much left after paying for the cruise!
I've been hearing that there are excursions to Mayan ruins in Mazatlan,
know anything about these?

in terms of post processing, is there anything I could do to improve/enhance either of these shots?

Some more shots of birds I've taken lately,
love to know what everyone thinks
Pentax K200D 65mm 1/250 F2.8
Pentax K200D 138mm 1/250 F4.5
Pentax K200D 138mm 1/350 F4.5
I've started to notice that birds don't make very cooperative subjects... :hmm:
by the way, anyone know what type of bird #2 is?
Thanks,
Ryan

Hey,
A couple of shots for everyone,
Subject wasn't very cooperative, was more interested in cleaning him(or her) self.
Taken with my K200d and Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70
Its my first time posting my photos, so apologies if it doesn't work or if I do something wrong,
What you guys (and girls) think?
Cheers,
Ryan

Would it work with the Pentax DA 55-300?

Hi,
Here's a (hopefully) simple question for all you wonderful people who know more than me! (aka pretty much everyone on this forum)
Everything I read about teleconverters confuses me more and more, I was under the impression they would work on any lens with the appropriate mount. However, when I looked at the sigma website, it listed some lenses that were specially designed to work on teleconverters...
Does this mean that only some lenses work with teleconverters, or is this only an issue with sigma lenses/teleconverters?
I guess the reason I was asking was because I was looking into getting a DA 55-300 (to replace the 50-200 I'm borrowing). would there be any teleconverter that would work with the lens in question, or a reason why I wouldn't want to use a teleconverter on it?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Cheers,
Ryan

Thanks for all the tips,
I'll be cruising down the pacific coast of Mexico (probably should have stated before...oops!)
I will have a 18-55 available, and I'll have access to it on the ship.
volosong: is there any noise reduction software that you recommend? If possible, software that is mac compatible? I do plan on bringing the 50-200, although by that time I might have replaced it with 55-300 (since the other lens is technically on an extended loan). I'll look into a fast prime, but I'm trying not to replace the 50 since it was a gift, do know of any wider primes you could point me towards?
Thanks again for all the advice, and feel free to keep the tips coming!
Cheers,
Ryan

you know anywhere that sells voigtlander lenses?
preferably near vancouver...
I do have a flash, is there any other equipment, or gear, or anything I should be looking into buying (Keep in mind I'm relatively new to photography, and don't have a whole lot of gear)
Thanks for the advice guys!
any other tips out there?

Hi,
I've been asked if i would take pictures for some family friends who are renewing their vows on a cruise this coming Christmas.
I haven't been on a cruise before, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience and/or tips for shooting on a cruise ship.
Is there any similar environment that would be good to try practicing in?
I know its quite a ways off, but I figured if I started asking now I'd have time to practice, and if there was any lens that anyone really recommended I would have time to acquire one.
Since I've never been on a cruise I really have no idea what to expect, so any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Ryan

I was thinking more for polarizing filters, or any other creative filters (I borrowed a star filter for a while, i was considering picking up my own)... I always buy a UV filter for each of my lenses, and almost never take them off... I haven't had a scratch on one yet... but it gives me piece of mind knowing that I've got something protecting my lens... on my current lens I don't see enough of a difference in most cases to want to risk something (however unlikely) happening to the lens
Edit: looked at pictures of the lens in question... that is a big hood... I might not use it after all... in it's defense though its much better than the one that came with my tokina lens...
