I can mail to Canada. I'll use Pirate Ship to find a decent cost for shipping. I'm not familiar with email money transfer and would prefer Paypal.

So shooting with my K5 set to manual focus, I can't seem to figure out what to 'turn' to manually focus my 18-135 zoom lens? Any advice?
Thanks,
Ken

So I know there's some debate on the K5's exposure issues when using PTTL... Don't recall if the consensus is that is over or under-exposes. In any case, I'm using a Metz 50 AF2 and recently in a fairly small room with some partial lighting from lamps etc, I was having a hell of a time getting a decent exposure bouncing of a rogue flashbender... Now, perhaps I'm just using it wrong, but I found that even using the on camera flash exposure compensation and the on flash exposure compensation it would still seem to underexpose... In fact it seemed as it it barely changed...
So I switched the manual on the flash and shot at full power... At that point I got a reasonable exposure. But I seemed to need to shoot at full power.
Given that I'm only maybe 6-8 feet from my subject... the ceilings are low... There is some ambient light... It seems weird to me that this 'uppermid' level flash would be maxing out to attain an even exposure - even when bouncing.... Unless I'm screwing the pooch somehow....
Any suggestions???

I've been asked to put together a relatively basic promo video for my gym. I'll be shooting my K5 and I have a 50 f1.4 manual, 18-135 or 90mm macro. There will be minimal audio if any.
I'm looking for some basic video instruction preferably specific to the K5 but obviously I'll take what I can get. Recommendations on which lens to use, aperture, how to focus effectively, etc...
I have a month to shoot and edit it and it's basically a for trade thing so not too much pressure. But I'll like to get started soon and get as much advice as you can provide.
Feel free to suggest other sites, blogs and other sources of info.
Thanks!

So to be clear, if I take off the black cover, it's essentially a shoot through umbrella... There is no difference between that and the one that doesn't have a removable black cover.... Is that right??

I received as a gift an umbrella... It has an inner white umbrella with an outer black umbrella you can remove. At first I was under the impression that if I removed the black umbrella, it would become a 'shoot through' umbrella... But I think I'm wrong and a 'through umbrella' is entirely separate... Can someone clear this up for me?
If the first case, with the umbrella with the removable black cover, what is the point of the removable part?
Anyone caring to shed some light on these different options would be much appreciated!
Thanks,

Well, I'm undoubtedly revealing my newbie status here, but to shoot portrait outdoors in daylight.. If I want to darken the ambient light my understanding is you use increased shutter speed.. so in daylight I need more than the flash sync speed to get anything close to darkness...
I have also heard that using HSS to control ambient light is totally incorrect... so what do I know... :)

I presently have a Metz 50 AF1 which I use with my K5.
I'm starting to get into a little portrait work and I'd like to pick up a second flash. Now I'm disappointed at not being able to utilize HSS off camera and one solution would be to buy the Pentax 360 or 540 to act as the master on camera. But it seems like total waste to have to leave that flash on camera to trigger a second just for HSS.
I'm relatively new to lighting, but it seems like you generally rarely use a hotshoe flash on camera.
So in the end, to have full functionality, are you stuck with spending several hundred bucks on an extra hotshoe flash to act as the master, but wasted on camera??
What's the best solution here?
Thanks,
Javaslinger

So I need a 5P TTL cable and some kind of hotshoe adapter? Do they come as a set? Where to buy?

I'm seeing that the only way to get HSS off camera is with a cable. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong and/or point me to a good cable? Shooting a K5 with a metz 50-af1

With my 50AF1 and K5, PTTL mode must be initiated on the hotshoe and then can be taken off for wireless flash. If you start off camera, TTL is the only option. Weird, but that's the way it seems to work.

So now having a macro lens, extension tubes, and a teleconverter has opened a who new world for me!!! Very exciting...
More than anything is my appreciate for what 'shallow' depth of field really means... So of course, now I want to try some focus stacking... What is the best gear for this? Some kind of rail? Any recommendations (and direct links to it on ebay or amazon)?
Best software?
Advice/tips??
Thanks!

A friend's jewelry is being featured in a local mag and she's asked me to shoot it.. I've got a Pentax K5 with a new (used) Tarmon SP 90mm macro (1:2.5) and some extension tubes and a 2x teleconverter (7 elements) which I think some combo of would be nice for it...
Advice on how to do this? Where do do it? Lighting?
I'm a rookie enthusiast...
Thanks!

I'm using it was a Tamron SP 90mm 1:2.5 macro with a PK/A adaptor... I don't know much more about it than that... It's definitely manual focus, but without the extensions tubes I can control the aperture in camera. The PK/A adaptor has 3 contacts...
Sorry, I'm learning and appreciate all of the input, knowledge and advice!!

Ok, then all is working I supposed... I was under the impression that the aperture coupling lever allowed the aperture to be controlled from in camera. What exactly is it doing? I set the aperture on the lens, so what does the coupling lever do if it's not allowing aperture to be controlled in camera?

The Vivitar AT-22 does (I think) have some kind of aperture control. It does have linkages of some kind which I assume were part of the aperture mechanism. They are not present in the cheaper all plastic extension tubes...
I still think it's not working as advertised, but at least I can take photo's with it now...

I understand you can achieve closer focusing with either but how do they work differently? Is on or the other better? Different circumstances for use?

Ok, I scraped the finish on the extension tubes and now I'm getting somewhere... I can set shutter speed and ISO so long as I set the aperture manually on the lens.
Now I was under the impression that I would be able to set the aperture in camera with this particular set of extension tubes? So is it working normally now or is it still not right?

Now what the heck do I do with these things?? :)
I shoot a K5 and recently got a Tamron 90 manual 1:2 macro lens... Extension tube set is a Vivitar AT-22 automatic set... Do I just screw them on, attach the lens and shoot ??
