By doing some rough calculations, I found that the distance traveled by the club head in a 1/6000s shot is equal to (100*1.6/3.6 m/s) / 6000*1/s =0.74cm.
This isn't a whole lot, but depending on how close you are, some movement blur may be induced.
I'm no strobist, but what I imagine would help is using a flash. Using whatever function allowing for light from background in addition to the now "frozen" club, I would imagine should do the trick. If you search a bit you'll find the function I mean, not sure if it's slow curtain sync or trailing curtain or whatever.

Thank you, Steve! This is a crop, and a quite "large" one too, as you can imagine. Can't wait to get back there this summer and experiment some more, and this time with a larger resolution sensor, allowing for a better crop, hopefully!
My wish for my next picture from this place is that there will be a lightning bolt strike into the ocean in the middle of the ocean to the right, but that's probably getting my hopes up.. :)

I've been sifting through some of my older pictures, and realizing that some of them were not so bad, they just needed some help in photoshop.
With this one I was going for a typical "before the storm"-look. How do you like the atmoshphere? What does it tell you?

I got inspired by a photo I saw on Flickr to try a BW mod of a picture I took during spring break. I am looking for general critique, and especially if converting into bw adds anything to it or not. This is a crop. Should I have kept more of the sides?
Edit; So I've been tinkering more with the picture, and came up with this bw. Better/worse?
The last picture is a similar one from NY. I thought it covered much the same area, so I would appreciate to hear what you think of it too. Maybe I should have chosen foreground focus instead? Does the closest building draw too much attention to itself?

Went out again to get some more "action" shots, unfortunately, they seem to be satisfied for this year. I did, however, get a picture of a guy who's been partying hard, and is now probably regretting just that.

Eaglem; Spring it is, seemingly! It's strange to me, being Norwegian, where spring is a total transformation of the country, whereas here it's just an excuse for the bugs to get down and dirty (the weather is pretty much constant here in San Diego)..
Rupert; Those are some weird insects! Do you find them in the US?
I have a question for you guys when it comes to framing of these pictures; does it work? I sat for a pretty long time trying out different crops, but was undecided as to what was the best solution! Any input on that would be great.

Nice capture. Is it a crop? I'm asking because it seems a bit unsharp. You could also have stopped the lens down for better sharpness, as you had a very short exposure time.
I also get a feeling the image is a bit off on the angle, if you are familiar with the leveling tool in photoshop or the likes I would try to rotate the image a couple of degrees to the right.
I do like the boat in the lower right, but it seems it is a bit underexposed?

Second everything that Ash said. The photos lack some "pop" to them, and I think you can fix that relatively easily by photoshopping.
I spent 30 seconds with it in photoshop now where I increased brightness overall, and selected the two girls to boost contrast, sharpen and brighten a bit more. Nothing advanced, give it a try :)

Hi guys.
Went out again with my camera today, and lo and behold, these lady bugs were "doing it" on my rooftop! Felt like quite the perv, but they didn't seem to mind. I'm trying to better my pp skills, so feel free to criticise! :)

Nice capture! Did you consider cropping away "the thing" in the bottom right corner? Seems a bit distracting to me.

It's going to be really exciting watching the chickens grow up. It's quite a challenge getting good pictures from above, but I hope to get some without bothering the mother too much. I think I'll post a picture of where the nest is, it's really weird, being placed maybe 30cm from where the pathway to the apartment entrance is. Might not be very smart, this bird.. :)
Also, would appreciate comments on the post processing; could I sharpen it more, boost colours etc?

Ever since I moved to the US I've been wanting to find a hummingbird to shoot. Unfortunately they aren't very abundant where I live, so I'd kinda given up on it. Great was then my please when I today realized there's a pretty little one nesting in a bush outside of my apartment entrance!
I didn't manage to get any in-flight pictures, but I tried a couple of portraits, and even got close enough for an "egg-shot" when he was away.

I do agree in the sun being dominating, but seeing as I forgot my lens hood, it is limited what pp can do with it without looking bad.
Already lightened up the Bellagio quite a bit ( alot), but I'm defininately gonna try some more and see what happens.
I'm also going to play around more with #2. But regarding the HDR-look, do you find it ruining the picture in any way? I don't very often do HDRs, and I haven't come to terms with myself on how I like them yet.

Hey Nandystam! You're starting off with macro exactly the same way as I did! That lens should be a very good tool for learning : )
+2 to Jeff. The color of the rose seems to have lost its saturation due to overexposure.
Also, try playing around with depth of field, it is often the most efficient tool when doing macro. This is entirely subjective I think, but in my opinion you've focused on the "wrong" part of the rose in the last picture. My eyes are drawn towards the stilk, although it's the rose that's pretty.
A thing I find very neat for outdoor macro is an external flash. Using this you can get your motive in focus, and darkening the background a lot. I might be lying, but I think I used that setup in this shoot. Here I also used the same Vivitar as you're using. It's not in any way perfect, but it gives you a feel of how stuff looks with it.
I think you're off to a good start! Macro is a lot of fun, especially trying out new techniques etc! :)

Hey guys, I did some shots while I was in Vegas that I'd appreciate C&C on, especially regarding pp and framing of the picture. Regarding the fountain picture; I'm considering cropping away some of the bottom. The sunset picture is from La Jolla. It is a HDR-photo from 3 pictures, using 2ev bracketing. My main concern on this one is whether or not it's too dark? Could lighten it a bit, but I'm afraid to lose the "sunset-feeling".
