This matches my feelings about the whole Xmas thing exactly and I couldn't have said it any better. I loathe this time of the year like no other.
Glad that your Mum is OK Dave and that she continues to improve.

I've spent this year selling gear after having a very long, hard think about what I really need (and will use) so there's no new gear in my future plans (Pentax or any other brand). And there's probably still a couple of pieces that I could / should move on to new homes.

Yep, switching from a ballpoint to a fountain pen is like going from instant coffee to brewing your own........once you've done it you never go back

Very well said Mike. Given all the bad stuff going on in the world at the moment I'd have thought that there were far bigger things for people to be disappointed about than a lack of new product announcements from Pentax

I can't speak for Tesla's over here but insurance for our Volvo EV's doesn't cost any more than for an ICE car. Maybe it's something to do with Volvo owners' reputation for being slow drivers :lol: means they're less likely to have an accident.

So am I. I reckon that the 31 Limited is a more than suitable alternative.

My last two DA Limiteds (the 15mm and 21mm) will be on their way to a new home later today. I love the DA primes but lately I've done a lot of serious thinking about my "realistic' gear needs and the truth is that I have the whole focal length range from 10mm to 300mm covered by zooms which will be more than adequate for my needs. I'm keeping the 20 - 40 Limited as my main lens - it's a cracking piece of gear.

There hasn't been much posting in this thread lately, maybe people just aren't selling gear. I'll kickstart it by confessing that I've moved a pair of DA Limiteds on to new homes...a 35 Macro and a 70.

I had, and loved using, a couple of LX's but my understanding is that parts are getting very hard to find and so are people who can, or will, work on them. I believe that the special seal kit that needs replacing whenever the camera is opened is now rarer than rocking horse poo. For that reason I'd go for something like an MX as suggested by Spock (although I never got along with the MX I had) or a Nikon F2 or F3. These still seem to be able to be repaired and by all accounts are bulletproof unless they've been thoroughly mistreated.

Stephen Fry made a similar analogy on an episode of QI. His view is that when your mobile phone rings it is basically instructing you to stop whatever you're doing and answer the call because it's more important than whatever you happen to be doing at the time. Of course, you can always ignore the ringing (I'm an expert at that).
The thing that really grinds my gears about mobiles is how they seem to randomly display pages or apps that you haven't chosen.

Once you take account of DPReview's anti-Pentax bias and pro-Nikon and pro-Canon view then it's all pretty obvious where they come from. FWIW I've only handled the K-1 out of the camera's you mentioned and I find it really-well balanced in the hand and a delight to use.

There was a recent thread about DCXpert that deviated somewhat and there was some disussion about DCXpert and it's "relationship" with CRK here: dcxpert blocked me in ebay: C.R. Kennedy & Company not affiliated to dcxpert - PentaxForums.com
In one post I mentioned that I had a potential warranty issue with my K3iii that I bought through DCXpert, so I contacted them about how to proceed. I was asked to contact CRK directly. I phoned the Melbourne office and spoke to Rob and he said to take the camera (and a copy of my invoice - on CRK letterhead but charged to DCXpert) to the Perth office of CRK. I took it in and they sent the camera off to Melbourne for an inspection and repair (if that's what was needed).
I've just had a phone call and my camera is ready to collect. They tested it and couldn't find anything wrong but have told me to take it back if I have any more issues. There was no charge in spite of nothing being wrong - the whole process took one week. Once again I'm very impressed with CRK's service - they did a great job on a lens for me a couple of years ago.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that Aussies can confidently buy gear through the DCXpert website with the knowledge that the gear on their site is not "grey" and if there are any warranty issues then CRK will handle them professionally and without quibbling.

Unless a customer is an absolute pest and causing continuing problems for the seller, it seems like a huge own-goal (by DCXpert or any ebay seller) to block a buyer as it seems has happened in this case. I mean......a sale is a sale and if things are going to get tough for retailers (as seems very possible) then it makes no sense to block buyers from buying whatever you're selling.
But that's just my view and for the record, all my transactions (quite a few over the years) with them have been fine.

Just in case anyone is interested I've posted an update about my warranty experience with the K3iii I bought through DCXpert back in May in the Repairs and Warranty Service section. The short version is......warranty issues are handled by CRK without any fuss.

At the risk of starting something our Trans Atlantic cousins are not always as well-equipped to pick up the subtleties of English humour as some of the rest of us. As a Kentish 10 pound pom, subtley in English humour is often its most sublime characteristic.

Great post Mike...and when I saw it was written by you my first thought was that you seemed to be about the one person least likely on here to abandon ship for the reasons written.
In all honesty I think a lot of the people who spend their time on here moaning about what Pentax lacks / should do / must release every 6 months would be better off just getting out with the gear they already own and take some **** photo's :lol::lol::lol:

This is great news and I wish I wanted to buy something because I'd go to Camera Electronic so that I could support them with pushing Pentax. Of course there's always the K3iii Mono..........................

I think I'm at the same point as you Mike. I find myself completely uninterested in adding any more gear to my (recently trimmed down) collection because it won't add anything to the photographic experience for me. I did buy a K3iii recently and I'm still trying to get to grips with everything that it does but I do sometimes find all the controls and options a bit overwhelming. There's no way I'll ever push it beyond its limits - any shortcoming are on my side of the camera.
In many ways I find the M9 all the camera I need and it is about as simple and close to what photography was like when I first took a picture about 40 years ago. It's very basic and the screen is terrible but it has just the controls I need - the rest is down to my "skill". If I had to choose just one out of the M9 and K3iii to keep, well, I'm not sure which one it would be.
