The FA Limited Club

Hi there fellow Pentaxians

Count me in the FA Ltd-club, just bought an excellent copy of the 43mm and cant resist the need to post a few of my first results

Let me introduce myself first; I'm a 31 year old norwegian dad of two lovely children, respectively 2 years and 7 months old lovely girls.
I started using DSLR in 2008, with my K10d, which I didn't understand much of the first months, but soon found out was an EXCELLENT camera at low ISO, and developed a lovely relationship with.
Bought a couple of handfuls with old K, M & A-series lenses as well as a DA55-300mm and after the K10d died, DA17-70mm f/4 came with my seconhand K20d and I immediately fell forl the colour/sharpness of this lens.

Now, I'm using the 43mm pretty much all the time. It's just. so. perfect. in. every. way.
:D

First two pictures of my oldest daughter, Charlotte in the tub tuesday.
I just love the fact that I can shoot at wide aperture and still have that incredible sharpness of this lens in combination with my trusty K20d.
Used a 540 FGZ flash as light source, camera and flash in "M" to assure 100% control of the high-key exposure.

f/2.5
ISO 100
1/160 sec shutter speed

Charlotte | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

In this next shot, our youngest daughter Helena is "greeting" our good friends' dog, Rufs:lol:
She just loves him and crawls towards him at full speed every time we're at their house.

I used natural light only, as light source and is very happy with the exposure. Considering the fact that I usually in the past almost consistently had to use a flash to be sure that she hadn't moved after I'd focused (manually) and taken the shot. It seems much more easier -logically enough, I guess- to use the AF in these situations... It opens up a "new World" for me:)

Last, this is the view we had two days ago, coming home from work in the afternoon. Had to stop to document the thick fog and the mysterious landscape it created!

Here`s my hometown; Andenes.

Captured on a mountain that is approx. 400 meters above sea level.
The old and trusty 135mm took care of the starbursts in the picture.

MANY people shared this picture from my facebook-profile (discover my norway -Tommy Larsen) and the local energy company bought the use of it in a commercial.

I`m really proud to actually finally be making some money on my hobby, all thanks to Pentax and the lovely communities around the world :o

Hello!

Hi there :)

I have really fallen in love with this lens. Here are a few of my captures this month, captured in Andøy, Northern Norway, handheld only.

Cormorants and Great black-backed Gulls united.

White-Tailed Eagle in flight.

I believe this is a Greylag Goose, however I`m not certain.

Eagles AND Geese. Optical illusion created because of the narrow focal area of this lens, and because of the distances between the motives :) Focused on the eagles to achieve this.

Whooper Swans, twice :)

Have a nice evening, folks :)

Had to run out and grab some pictures tonight... The dancing... flashing... Pan-STARRS comet right above the horizon... the calmness... I freaking love discovering my Norway. ( Flickr: Larsenio's Photostream -website up soon- ) ;)
All pictures captured with DA10-17 @ 10mm. Composed 50/50 horizontally, the lens is surprisingly low on defects.

Yesterday out for a photo walk with my girlfriend, the skies suddenly turned green and for a few minutes Aurora Borealis showed herself to us with that beautiful green dress...

The weather was so-so, 15-20meters pr second from east, and -5 degrees Celsius. So you could say it was cold, if you weren`t as warmly dresses as we were :)

38 seconds shutter speed, made possible since the light didn`t wander so much this evening. Sometimes you have to use 5-10 seconds shutter speed to avoid just a moving fog of Aurora-light.

This made the clouds more contrasty, I adjusted the parametres to highlight in those clouds. Added a screendump of my workflow to show you.

Hello and good evening.

I posted some new photos on Flickr this morning and a few hours after that, I got a mail from Der Spiegel in Deutschland (Germany) with an inquiry to use my photos on their website

They are all taken last evening, in INSANELY northern light showing off their colours!

So now I can say I was published on an international, large website:lol:

Here are a few of my little set of northern light-pictures:

Self portrait, 15 sec exposure
f/1.9
ISO 800
Pentax FA 43mm Limited
(Had 4-5 different versions with running back and forth and poses before I finally ended up with the compositional and artistic photography result I had in mind.)

Version 2, with a little less noise reduction and bringing out some more light in the skies:

Andenes, upper town.
13 sec exposure
f/2.0
ISO 800
Same lens

25 sec exposure
ISO 800
Same lens

The set on Flickr:

Thank you so much, and thanks joe.penn as well :ugh:

Yes, I really, absolutely HATE noise showing above ISO800 on my K20d.
So I often noise-reduce too much...
And since it`s been captured at the widest possible aperture on that lens, the sharpness is so-so.
But hey, it`s a start, right?

Can`t wait to get out and capture the aurora, next time I`ve got the possibility to do so.

Tommy.

Night Cityscape from Andenes in B&W

Hi again, Pentaxians.

As stated earlier this evening ( for us in Scandinavia that is ) I`m posting a few more shots from the town of Andenes in the cold northern Norway:)

Here are a few, with different exposure settings and a two different lenses. Some are shot with the FA43 Ltd, and some with DA 17-70SDM.
The shots are taken more or less around one second shutter speed and apertures between f/2.2-5. I believe. The EXIF is intact and visible in the link provided.

All of them are b&w and they are all taken on the evening of 9th of Jan.2012.

"Kiilgården", built around 1894 and has been used as residential (correct? =house...) and as an Inn, from old times. Was transferred to the county i 1985 and later on -around a year ago- a private foundation.
Kiilgården

A part of the old Andenes again, this is looking at a so-called "fisherman`s quarters", built a year ago or so and a very modern accommodation.
It`s called "Grønnbua" I, II & III and perfect for housing people wanting to spend a few nights on poles at the sea, in the coastal area.
( Rorbuferie Andenes )
I do not work there or have any relations with the people there, just thought I`d link to the specific place. Hope you don`t mind, moderators?

A little further down the road is this lovely group of trees, and if you see in the background in the right side of the picture, I`ve tried to get the blowing snow from the rooftops captured...

This is a part of the marina for small vessels here in Andenes.
Again, the snow... :D
In the right side of the picture is "Lankanholmen" accommodations, cabins owned by a hotel brand.
Andrikken Hotell - Hytter - Lankanholmen Sj

Downtown Andenes/city center.
Not really a large town but stretches around three kilometres from "start till end" and houses around 2-3000 (cold) souls.

And least and unfortunately last, the monument over those that have lost their lives at sea here since 1821. Updated when rebuilt a few years ago.
1821 was a sad year and winter, 30 people were buried at sea when a raging storm came faster than the fishermen hoped for.

In the winter, Cod is a main source of fishery and there hundreds, possibly thousands of tons caught in this area from January-April.

It`s said (and written!) that the old people knew the storm would come, when looking out at the black clouds far away in the horizon, but the young and fearless didn`t mind and the powerful "trader" at the time (which controlled many people`s debts and boats) gave them alcohol and told them that those who don`t dare fish can just go to their cabins. In that time, fishermen had great pride and wouldn`t dare do something as "coward" as that.
Well, 8 women became widows, 100 children lost their father because of that storm and the stupid decissions/craving for money by one man alone.

Edit; the history written refers to the other side of the monument. This side is "only" those that have lost their lives at sea in the area since 1921...

Well, a little sad goodbye then. But so long and happy thoughts for all of you and thanks for reading/viewing this!

Hi :)

Just posting a little christmas b&w-photo with my oldest daughter as motive.
The picture is taken at the town square, where the tree (spruce) is set for public viewing and maybe some christmas spirit:)

Unfortunately, there`s little -not to say nada- snow right now in Andenes, Norway...

But things have a tendency to work out just fine, so I`m not too concerned. Yet.
:D

Charlotte, however is happy as long as she gets to be around this tree now and then. Very fascinated of the old, pretty tree.

Sometimes I wish I still was her age, two-three years old. And could just have that concern in life.. Oh joy.

Merry christmas in advance, hope to post some more cheery christmas-related photos eventually :)

Hi there, need urgent help concerning shutter count on my wife`s K-r.
We`re selling it and need the precise count :)

Attached photo has only been converted from DNG to JPEG, no changes or anything. It`s just an example photo.
Can someone with PhotoME or similar software find the shutter count in the EXIF from this picture?

Cheers,

Hi there :)

These are the newest pictures in my series where I try to increase my portrait/flash skills. And manual focusing technique as well

They`re are all taken with my SMC-A 50mm f/1.7 @f/8-f/10
Edited in Lightroom 3.3 on my wife`s MacBook. It`s a great machine for getting correct colours :)

Trying a new editing-style as well here.
The essence is keeping some colours but leaving most parts as if they were b&w-images.

Just love to work with this natural born model of mine ;) She`s got so many different and interesting expressions!

Oh the sadness...

Last one, thanks for watching and maybe leaving me a little comment?
