Snow is finally melting (and fast). Ants are coming also alive and so my macro season begins. :)
Here is one shot from yesterday. First time I managed to freeze this. Ants defend themselves by spraying acid to its enemies.

Here are some sample snaps from this evening. I only shoot Raw and I set the camera to neutral profile. I like the camera gives a pretty flat look in this setting - gives me more room to post process. These are images are pretty minimally processed (color balance, evels and contrast).

I for one DON'T want an articulating screen. Something to break off, and compromise WR. I never use the screen for composing anyway. I can appreciate that some people may find it occasionally useful, but not for me thanks.

Since I got into the hobby, I've been shooting a K1000, MX, LX, and ME Super alongside my digitals....as I haven't much money to dedicate to photography, I've been careful to buy full frame lenses with aperture rings pretty well exclusively for my fleet, except for the 18-55 weather sealed and sigma 10-20.

If the FF pentax digital hits, I'll be ready.

Yep, the limitation on my picture quality is not my K5, which I am completely happy with.

I'm gonna call it "sipping from the full frame cool-aide". I personally don't want and wouldn't buy a Pentax FF. Why? becuase i have alot of full frame glass and LOVE the fact that my APS-C sensor ignores the inherent flaws of extreme image corners. Even with my 12-24, the field curvature is slightly reduced becuase the sensor never sees the edges. It's like eating the middle of mom's apple pie and getting away with it. Who wants the crust anyway?
And for those whining about video, go get a darn video camera, this is an SLR, a still picture taking machine, i want the best bang for my still image i can get. I would bet that's why the K30 trumps the K5 in video, because you can only do so much with something before the price gets out of line and the casual shooter wants a little bit of everything.
The camera I see so many people wanting Pentax to come out with would be 3-4000. Why? So you don't have to have someone with a 1D walk up to you with no lens cap on and brag about all the crooked horizon images he just took at 1600 iso while trying to convince you that you are somehow inferior becuase we haven't succumbed to the Canikon cult?

I know it's a bit depressing that there's no FF even under glass at Photokina, and that the 645D II didn't show up either (but hey, the new Leica S hasn't got a new sensor either, we probably have to wait a little longer). But if you could just relax a little bit and have a closer look at the actual new products from Pentax, what's not to like? The K30 has just been out for a short while and has really impressed reviewers, and apparently also sells well. The K-5 II may seem very boring to us gear heads, but hey, it's one of the best cameras in the known universe made even better! In many ways the K-5 II is a better camera than the Canon 6D and even the D600. They probably can't compete at all with the silk-smooth low noise shutter/mirror of the K-5 II, the build quality is probably not quite the same, the max shutter speed is lower, for HDR geeks the K-5 is much better with 5-frame bracketing... the list goes on! (And of course the price is much lower)

What about the complaints about the Prime II in the K-5 II? I simply think that Prime M probably can't do 14 bit RAW, and of course it would be silly to introduce a K-5 II with less DR than K-5. The K-5 is the right camera if you want no compromises in still image IQ (I use my K-5 @ ISO 80 most of the time, it's just amazing how much you can do with those RAW files), the K30 is better for video. I see one bad decision from Pentax here, though: The K30 should have had a microphone jack.

Maybe they are keeping their cards very close to their chests.. This is word of mouth still . Photokina is not officially open till tomorrow.. Maybe Pentax has a surprise still :) If not .. K5 mkII s for me!!
