Totally agree with you, but as such bokeh is a generic term referring to out of focus rendering, and as far as I know has no relation to its origin (I can put Vaseline on a filter, isn't that count as bokeh?); hence we (should) only care how it looks, not how it's achieved. We may not like how "Computational Bokeh" (aka out of focus rendering by computer algorithm) looks, but it is still bokeh, albeit without the randomness and complexities of bokeh rendered by a given optical formula.

Only because it was not done right. I will in some occasions add "fake bokeh", although bokeh is bokeh regardless how it's achieved, so there isn't such thing as "fake bokeh", so lets call it "Computational Bokeh" as opposed to "Optical Bokeh". When I do that, I always apply a gradual transparency, hence increasing the effect as the subject background lies further away from the subject in focus. There are a number of algorithms to create the blur effect, some more "natural" than others (although optical engineers are working hard trying to achieve a smooth, almost digital like, bokeh; so which is better, digital blur that mimics optical blur, or optical blur that closely resembles the perfection of digital blur ?). The main issue with "Computational Bokeh" is not the bokeh itself (although one might need a pretty complex algorithm to simulate highlight "onion rings" and other variations of highlight blurs based on a lens physical design, but feasible nonetheless), but the subject isolation, which can result in a loss of fine details close to the subject such as stray hairs etc.

Nice deep tones, the DFA 28-105 seem to perform well on the K-01

That is if the screen is clearly visible. An EVF is the ultimate MF tool, and I sometimes miss that with the K-01.

I believe the K3 has user interchangeable focus screen, so it shouldn’t affect the warranty. Did you say that you will loose the original if you change it?
That said, you will have to make sure the focusing screen is properly calibrated if you want to rely on optical focusing. The focusing screen on my K10D is somewhat inaccurate, and would require some adjustment using specialized shims (like a thin frame you put underneath the focusing screen) to make it right. Instead I ignore what I see and rely on the focus confirmation “beep” and “red light at the focus location” to tell me when it is in focus, and that method works quite well for me. So whatever focus screen you use, make sure your AF is properly calibrated first and use that to confirm the screen accuracy.

I need an EVF because it's nearly impossible to manually focus accurately without it. There are also times when the display is so difficult to see that accurate composition is simply not possible.

Did you have issues with shutter lag? I often miss action shots due to its dismal lag, which is like 1/2sec it seems.

I like the K-01 except for anything that include movement. The shutter lag sucks , other than that it's a good macro and landscape camera if you don't manually focus.

No issue with late opening to the thread, but to have 50 reply before it even open for me was frustrating and disappointing. You sit there and can’t do a thing but watch the numbers of reply go up!

Frustrating indeed, the Post Reply button did not appear until there were more than 50 entries (yes I refreshed every seconds too).
Something's very wrong in this process. I am guessing that those closest to the main server got a crack at it before everyone else could even have a chance to try.
Oh well, that's it for me, won't waste my time next month.
