I too have both. K1 was purchased first because I had all the legacy lenses I would ever want, and it has not disappointed. Also, the KP had not been released yet. I came from the K5iis and the size of the K1 was at times just too much for what I wanted all the time. I got the KP to supplement the K1, but I find I use the KP more than the K1. Still love both.

I will have to try the TAv mode as I mostly use Av with the front dial set for iso. It sounds like there is a-lot of versatility I have been missing, and need to give this one a try. The high useable iso with the KP may make this mode a more useable one than I have given it credit for.

Sandy hit the nail on the head. I am used to an mx from the old days and I have always had the small grip on my KP. In short, I use every lens including my Fa* 300 4.5 and my Fa* 80-200 2.8.

If a Kp is purchased in the USA, then all three grips are supplied, unless it is a grey market camera. Purchasing direct from Ricoh USA makes it a USA warranted product, and not grey market. Buy with confidence.

Yes, and I may be wrong, but I believe this is the best price for a new Kp ever offered!

This is crazy! Yesterday I ordered the KP at the $111.00 discount because I thought it may disappear after the first time. I just couldn’t pass it up for a spare body at this price. It appears that we can’t take chances of it staying in place, so if you want one, don’t wait if the discount comes back.

I am sure you would put both of them to good use! The 90mm Lanthar is especially delicious.

No I haven’t Allen. I did know there were slight differences in build, but I assumed they would perform about the same. I purchased the 40 XP after the da limited because of my focusing discrepancies with the limited. I will go read the review. Thank you.

I am glad to see your post as I have noticed my smc 40 limited to exhibit this behavior too. I was thinking that I had a bad copy, but will now do some more experimentation with it. What is odd is that I also have a da 40 XP lens that focuses impeccably, and that was making me question my da 40 smc.

I agree completely. I have been using the small grip since I bought my KP, and I also cradle the lens. It is my favorite camera, and handles like a dream for me.:)

Having lived on a farm for 56 years and still using raw milk from a family cow and eggs from the coop as well as putting manure on the garden, having all the exposure to bacteria is better for the immune system than growing up in a sterile society. I think you can carry on.:D

In 2013 I went to Rome, Assissi, Florence, Pompeii, Sienna and Pisa on a group tour. Changing lenses to keep up with the group was not real practical. I did take the K5iis, 18-135, 12-24, FA 43 and one other lens that I don't remember. I didn't even put on the 12-24, though I could have. The 18-135 ruled the roost and I was happy with the results. The rest were just extra weight. If I did it again, I would take the 18-135 and maybe the 12-24, but for what I did the 18-135 was enough. Have fun.

I still have a K5IIs and it performs admirably...but it doesn't get used since I purchased the KP. And I echo Ruby's thoughts on the top LCD. I just don't find myself missing it.

I went with the KP. I have the K-1 so I wanted something that would be more compact for travel. I find that the KP's controls compliment the K-1 and the customization of the buttons make it so it does everything I need it to without getting into the menus. It is a real fun little camera to use and I find it suits my apsc needs better than anything I've had yet.

Carl Kolchak used a Pentax in the first movie. I just saw it on Youtube, but the video was degraded enough you couldn't read the Pentax name. It is definitely a Pentax body seen in the first 7-8 minutes.

Thank you for the tip Mike, I just ordered my KP from B&H last week, and they too honored a refund for the difference! Great people at B&H.

The high ISO of the KP should serve you well. It sounds as if you have enough experience with Pentax that using the KP should be fairly straight forward. I think you would do fine with the KP, but you may want to have your other camera as a backup plan. So far my experience with the KP is only since Saturday, and I found it to be very intuitive and I trust the output that it has given me. Good luck.:)
