Move the flash off-camera and trigger with a wireless or PC sync cable. Put the camera in full manual. Put the flash in manual and set the power as required.

I've been using a grip for some time and haven't seen either the e-dial or green button problems.
I have had problems with the shutter button on the grip being pressed by my palm and taking the camera out of review mode. These days i keep the grip switched off unless i need it.
