DA zoom club

I believe its time we have a dedicated club for Pentax's cheap modern zoom's :)

Sadly they often get overlooked by primes, but nothing truly beats the versatility of a decent zoom. Any zoom lens with a DA logo without the * is welcome. This includes DA WR, and DA L....

So lets get the picture posting and discussion going!

Here's a image I took today of a Chick using the DA 55-300mm @ 300mm wide open. I bought the lens used for $220, which is the best i've seen in EX condition here on the forum :D I don't use it much sadly, but when I do it never disappoints.

----------------------------------------------------

(mine's paint does not look nearly as "flecky")

This lens was the first legit one I ever bought, and remains to this day my most expensive lens purchase....and its probably my least used lens now :(

I'm not positive if any of these have stacked lens combinations with the sigma so im only posting ones im 90% sure are JUST the sigma alone.

Macro by any means necessary club

With the creation of the macro lens club there was still a grey area left untouched: A place us less conventional macro shooters could post our photo's and equipment setups. Photographs taken with macro lenses by themselves do not belong here. Instead, this is a place for photographs taken with reversed lenses, stacked combinations of lenses, etc. Basically, macro by any means necessary ;)

In addition, examples of your setup used to achieve the photographs are allowed, in fact encouraged :) This club is meant to be as informative as it is entertaining for you guys :)

----------------------------------------------------------------

I'll start it off to get the ball rolling with my most recent macro shot

It was taken with my pentax F 135mm and a reversed Pentax F 28mm on the end of it, attached by a 52mm - 49mm adapter.

Contrary to common belief adding glass can in fact improve image quality, this being a case in point. The image quality is actually better when stacking these two lenses than if I were to reverse the 28mm on enough extension tubes to equal the same amount of magnification. In addition, I have found that keeping the primary lens wide open and stopping down the reversed lens gives better image quality. Therefore, for this shot, I kept the 135mm @ F/2.8 and stopped down the 28mm to F/4. Why you may ask? Quite simply because of diffraction.... for ultimate sharpness around F/5.6 in this case was best.

The picture:

Someone try THAT with a macro lens

i have not gone out without my stacking rig in a long time however because my L-bracket broke and its the only way to get the flash properly positioned to illuminate the subject. I just recently superglued it back together though :)

Thanks :)

It's all disassembled right now (do that incase of an earthquake so nothing gets damaged. Good o'le SoCal ;) ) but I'll quickly set the basic premise up for ya and take a picture with my phone :)

edit:

Normally there's a diffuser on the end of the el-nikkor but here you can see my makeshift hood taped/rubber banded on to stop flare. The subject is covered by a cup to minimize dust and fibers from getting on it which make my life very difficult ;)

Canon 5dmkII & pentax glass

My good friend picked up a battered 5dmkII for video work, but only had the plastic 50mm to use with it. We searched around a bit, picked up a cheap adapter, and made our first video using my glass and his camera body. The lenses we used were primarily the K 50mm F/1.2, M 85mm F/2, and F 28mm F/2.8. This has pretty much convinced me to pick up a used 5dmkII unless a pentax FF will similar quality video is introduced.

Please go full screen and the maximum resolution you computer can handle to enjoy the video :)

Looks good Nass

"Technical, 3 flashes, 2 from the sides and one from the bottom, el nikkor 50@5.6, 1s exposure through to a smallHD field monitor outputting the background. Tissue paper diffuser moved quite far back, 180 shots stacked in zerene (mainly dmap with a bit of pmax hair action thrown in); fair bit of retouching; further work in CS3 & Topaz detail."
