I had the K200D and I would say that you need very long exposures to get low noise results.

If you can stabilize it to get the long exposure then it would be fine to take picturs of the milky way across the sky. In other words, for wide field astro photography.

A 10-20mm lens would be a good choice.

If you want to make images with detailed deep sky opbjects like nebulae and clusters you need to talk and think about so many other things before you consider the camera.

In any way the best way to make sense of this is to try it somehow. I made a barn door tilting mount:

Barndoor Mount

that allows you to get exposures longer than 20 seconds without streaking stars.

Hope it helps

hey wow : ) thanks for all the replies - And yes as many write the advertized sync speeds are not applicable to Pentax, I think this is because they rely on a half prees pre warning as the shutter on the camera is clicked. At least this is my experience on the Trigmaster Mx1c or M1xc. I rewired mine to align with the ready flash pin on the hot shoe. This made it work with both the ready LED and the Trigger LED lighting up and the shutter curtain dissappearing from the 100th to 160/sec pictures. Unfortunately Trigmaster apperently turns themselves off very quickly. Plus I have to be precise about placing the Transmitter on the camera to line up.

I will check out the PCB triggers and cactus ones... PCBs might be tricky as ebay do not seem to have them but I know them and they look very nice - PCB sounds like a true believer in quality - listened to a couple podcasts with him... But I always manage to find what I look for...

From Aputure:
"The truth is our TX1C can trigger Pentax camera from time to time, but it do miss some times as the hotshoe is little different.
So we decided not to put it in our compatibilty list, you can check in our website:http://www.aputure.com/en/product/trigmaster_plus_24G.php."

So I guess it can work - just not all time for all the people

Helping to avoid confusion regarding Aputure Triggers:

MX1C If they use a 23A battery in TX they are the older Nikon/Canon series with the Canon MX1C selling to Pentax cusomers because the remote cable is the same
MXII-P If they use AAA batteries in bot RX and TX they are Nikon/Canon/Pentax series MXII-P

The nice ones with the cool antenna and Transceiver tech is called Aputure Trigmaster Plus which does not come in Pentax version because of problems when
used as camera remote control according to Aputure Customer Support They are called TX1C in the canon version

Hi
Thanks for the review - they look really nice and I want them really bad for their looks....

But I have found that Aputure triggers do not sync well if the wake up (red light on receiver when half press) on half press pin is not activated - So just wondering if you have used them with studio lights and how you have found their sync capabilities when the flash is at lower speeds like 1/800sec instead of speedlights at 1/5000sec

Have tried so far:

1. PT-04 version MegTrig
2. Aputure MX1C
3. Lie-Hu remote Control and Trigger - Both flash and trigger are really cheap crappy stuff

My current thoughts are that the perfect trigger for Pentax is a single pin trigger because of pin out
configuration is different on all brands. Center pin is the only truly universal trigger method.
I would like it to look "PRO" with antenna and be kind of cheap...

Yeah a hard find - but then again i am not some "pls google for me" type who cannot find 200$
triggers on his own. So no need to waste your time suggesting Pocket Wizards - I know they exist
and that they are the best bet - Not spending that kind of money yet.

Experience with rf-602, G430C 2.4GHz, also looking for reviews of the REAL Aputure MXII-P - the ones I could find here are people who think they own MXII-P but have the Aputure MX1C
over long shoots with studio flash (outdoor scenarios would be great as I mostly shoot outdoors)

I have previously written reviews on "tests" I have done upon receiving the triggers and found them to be "perfect" then taken them to a shoot and found them much lacking... So I only seek real shoot experience.

Sorry if I come off as a bit too particular - Just trying to be precise and refine the thread - also for future pentaxians who seek the same knowledge - So pls also reply if you find this a year from now : )

sorry it is a late reply - but the reason for max 1/100 is b/c the trigger needs prior warning through the third pin - which is why I modified - It needs to know when you half press to "get ready"

I had them out on a long shoot and I had to restart them every 10 minutes, b/c they would lose connection and stop triggering the flash - A studio flash....

I also have a Lie-Hu remote control and trigger - which is also crap - it did what yours did - flashing all crazy really fast - embarrassing on a shoot....

Also they are just triggers - no PTTL stuff - just syncing with camera shutter

Thanks can you elaborate on #4 - I can follow you on #3 because nothing was done to the skin,
I just like to keep the porres and texture. I never liked the gaussian blur skin. The idea behind the
shots is to have all the models of the agency presented in sort of a packshot style so the casters
can see what they get. That is up and running these are just for myself. The background is a
white wall - I moved the model away from the wall so the lights would make it grey.
We did consider buying a grey bacground and lighting it.

Hi

I have done a series of model portraits and would just like some input to further develop my eye.
Just want to know what other people think and look for in portraits and get different input about taste and preferences.
I am kind of ambivalent as to what is a bug and what is a feature. Like the point where the highlight in the eyes get too distracting or the one on the lips too harsh. I like a lot of contrast - So sometimes I hold back too much on the contrast curves.

Just seeking to gain perspective through other peoples eyes

Aputure TrigMaster compatibility as wireless shutter release

Hi

I am looking at the TX1C because it looks so bulky and shiny with articulated antennae and makes me look pro by association : )

No but seriously, it looks nice and I want it. But I have to know it works or at least if it malfunctions in a fixable way....

does that mean the package states it does not work with these cameras?

I have the MX1C and it would not sync fully above 1/80 on my K200D - So maybe as my K200 is the little brother it falls under the same incompatibility.

I have been mailing with Aputure some, and have some answers just not explicitely explaining the issues...

So I measured the voltage on the pins on the K200D hot shoe and found the digital communication pin to be active on half press.

I moved the blue "wake" wire in the transmitter MX1C from the "ready" pin to the "digital" pin and now the transmitter can tell the receiver to get ready and now it syncs all the time as long as I give it fair warning by half pressing before taking a picture

thank you again "Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Page"

Hi

The problem is not the voltage, it is the position of the pins that vary from Canon to Pentax.

The Canon WAKE pin is the READY pin on a pentax. So you have switch the internal wiring to make it work.

I have the MX1C and I fixed it to work at full sync speed with my flashes.

You open up the transmitter and move (solder) the blue wire (marked Wake or W) to the top right pin on the hot shoe.

thank you again "Bojidar Dimitrov's Pentax K-Mount Page"

Dead easy, and the you have wake function.

The problem is that the reciever needs pre notice when a flash triggering is about to occur. Same as the rf-602

You will need to half press the shutter button or else it will not sync up above 1/80.

You can see it working on the triggers, the green light on the TX blinks then the green on the RX blinks.

I measured the half press activity on the hotshoe of my K200D and found the Digital Com pin to be the one.

What they mean by "user interaction" is that it requires the user to actually double click the .DMG file to mount it then open the installer then give pasword then click run installer and THEN you get the virus that that doesn't really do much of anything.... some "virusses" that have surfaced since 1985 have been speculated to have originated from virus scaanner software companies....

A small essay about science and evolution

It is a very good idea to watch Richard Dawkins explain evolution if you want to understand it properly. T o recognize evolution you first have to understand what it is and how it works. It is both super simple and very complex. It is so readily available to learn - just by watching a video you get it all explained. Darwin started out as a devout christian, but had to abandon his beliefs. When you understand how the world works and find wonderss in the real world, there is an abundance of reason and purpose. The need for super/sub natural purpose comes from ignorance I think.

I know there are scientists who belive in gods, but just because youunderstand one thing in complexity, it is still possible to have missed aspects of the big picture. I heard that Newton, who explained discovered and understood some very intricate details about theworld, turnedto the god of the gaps when his genius and hus insights finally failed him. And he was wrong... I can't remember what it was but of course it turned out to be perfectly explainable.

So how about we all wise up and give up abusing ourselves with alcohol drugs and religion and face the world without all the crutches and ND filters and rose coloured lenses. It perfectly beautiful as it is - there is no need for really bad sloppy "worsethan days of our lives" storytelling like the bible or the koran...

Free Your Mind! :) actually wasn't that asong from the 90's - what was that girlband....?

Climate change is empirically proven. We have the data. But we do not have the data that says it is man made vs naturally occuring. The man made part is an interpretation.

It probably is man made and we should take action - but we should also keep in mind what the price is and who is going to pay it. Developing countries need huge energy resources to get up to our level. And thats going to have to be oil...

Left wingers are just as ideology driven in their tendency to believe in man made climate change. I know I'm a lefty. Well now I'm sort of unlabelled. Ideology is a dangerous thing. The point I was making is that there are fads in all communities. In denmark we are talking about banning prostitution or rather buying sex. They are all falling ove each other to be compasionate and save the poor girls. But they don't care that it is probably only going to make things worse. Now this is a really simple problem by comparison. You only have to think about it for 5 minutes to see the side effects.

Organic food - If all agriculture went organis we would lose 2 billion people from starvation. People think they should buy organic because it's healthy. They don't even think about the environment.

We shouldn't turn things into ideologies, because then they become as (well maybe not fully) problematic as religions

In short - I'm all for a better world - But let's look at the big picture, at ourselves and remember that every positive has a negative side to it.

PS. Trog, Most religions in addition to sying murder is bad, gives detailed instructions on how to kill (mostly stoning), when to kill (extra marital, false gods, failing to kill when it's for the love of god) - And I have a really hard time reading and understanding what you write, maybe it's because you write things like you would speak them... And do you really think peer review and trying to falsify your own theories in order to prov ethem are bad ideas?

I bought a Giottos MTL 9361, w/head 1300-652

It cost me about £150 and the legs take 8KG i think and the about 15KG. I've been very happy.

I mostly use them for long exposures and once you're setup they are steady. When I adjust my camera on them and I press down, the legs give away a little, like spreading an inch or so outwards. But only when fully extended. I bought these because of the center column that can articulate 180° and the looks : )

harrisoncameras.co.uk had the best offer when I bought mine

Look trog...

I like to keep an open mind, I like to read up on ancient technology artifacts just as much as on string theory and cosmology. I agree that there are fads in politics that rub of on science when coming to a certain conlcusion, like climate change is real, wil earn you more money. And I agree that there are limits to what you can say and be taken serious. 15 years ago you got ridiculed for believing in E.T's now it the other ay around. Nothing much changed fact wise - But it took a long time for people to get used to the idea.

This is not optimal. We should have a climate in which all views or theories could be explored. If not we miss out or get slowed down.

But it seems like you are saying "If it is not perfect it is no good" and it seems like you are mixing up a lot of things, in fact I'm not sure I even understand what you are saying...

Maybe you are just like me: Not At All Happy With The State Of Things

But I'm cheering for the team that is on the side of truth and knowledge
I'm cheering for the team that are fighting the against evil - Cause thats how I see religion. It's not harmless. It ranges from flying airliners into buildings and killing off Africas AIDS ridden population by combatting condom use to telling small children that someone can read their minds and punish them for thinking, telling them they belong to a religion and a god and maybe even cutting away at their genitalia, little boys pass out every day from the pain caused by this - And the parents get told they just fall asleep. If their reasons were any other than religious and if they didn't have a couple thousands years of culture to wean us into thinking this is normal we would put them in jail for many many years and they would be outcasts.

So I won't agree science is just as bad - because religious people want status quo, science want progress and knowledge is better than idiotic superstition that we need a third world war so that jesus can come back and save some of us and slaughter some of the others and turn the rest into his own rightous killing machines and then everybody will join him in his 1000 year reich - sound familiar...
It is a ludicrous idea - but apperently millions of people live thei daily lives and make thei day to day decisions based on it.

We should combat religion with education - Fight for childrens rights to be non religious by default

BTW Hitler was catholic - not atheist
His utilisation of breeding people to create a master race had nothing do with Darwin - It was pure old school breeding like we've done with cattle and pigeons for thousands of years...

I'm pretty sure I read that argument some where i this thread

ok, first of all "god of sience"? why would you call it that? I can see no god-like traits in science. Nor religious. Religion is about believing, even when there is no good reasons to do so. The more devout a beliver, the more you belive that you "know" there is a god, the better. When a religious person has doubts about god it is a "crisis of faith"

The scientific view demands doubt. That you ask questions and try to disprove what you find out, to be sure if it is correct. So there is no belief involved. Other than when a scientist is trying to understand something, he of course need to hypothesize, create a theory. And maybe he likes his new theory, and wants it to be correct, he wants to be right. But he is still going to try to find all the faults in it.

If any religious person truly tried this approach to his beilifs, they would shatter.

Newtons was right about gravity, his equations got us to the moon. Then Einstein comes along and explains it further. That doesn't mean that Newton didn't know anything.

Oh and the thing about the appendix... It was to be able to eat plant material, not raw meat.
And maybe you are right about this new purpose of storing and realising bacteria. But that does not mean it is not vestigial. It could have withered away to it's current form and found a new purpose. That is in no way contradictory to science or evolution.

And the agenda? Well a lot of christians and muslims belive in the second coming and that armageddon needs to happen before this. Thats an agenda, a pretty serious one at that.

So my agenda is to get people thinking about the world they live in.

I talked to a priest once who told me he believed in god, because god had saved him twice. First he got run over by a truck and didn't break a bone, next his skin cancer disappeared in the elevator going up to get it removed in the hospital. Well the second one could be called a miracle.

But it was because of his place of birth, Denmark, and because most religious people in Dnemark are christians that he chose to believe it was this particular god.

How about giving his own body some credit?

He could also feel gods presence inside himself. I've had both wonderful and terrifiyng excperiences myself, that my cultural upbringing would lead me to belive were god or the devil - It actually entered my mind, but I just don't see any reason to think it was jesus god or the devil, or any other god for that matter.

I mean why would an omni present being be confined to only certain parts of the globe?

Externalising ones own capacity for good or evil is a very unhealthy thing.

Maybe there is more to the world than meets the eye - The universe is a very big and mind blowingly complex "thing" and the more we find out the more we realize there is still left to know and discover.
That is science. Discovering the mechanism of natural selection by observing differences in species.

Then discovering DNA and seeing how these gradual changes from species to species are mapped out in DNA.

Clinging to a belief that has been proven wrong SO many times is simply not a good idea.

But religions are so well constructed to counter these white blood cells of truth, because they themselves has evolved over thousands of years. Thats why we smile overbearingly at the old religions, because they seem so simplistic. But they were steps on the way to becomming the most pervasive opressive way of herding people. Dictators have tried with various means t ocontrol people, but maybe they just lacked the two ultimate tools; Mind reading and the ability to punish unwanted thoughts and ideas even beyond living existence and into The Afterlife - Not even in death can you escape this ruler.

The ONLY reason why we live in a somewhat free society is because evolution has devoloped a universal sense of right and wrong and empathy in ALL of us - So that we can see the problems in the scriptures and slowly (a little too slow for my taste) weed them out of our lives.

OK OK - I'll stop for now - I just get so revved up : ) thinking about that preacher guy - He actually belived that we would have "small comuter chips like rice grains" implanted in our hand in the next 20 years - because it says so in Book of Revelations - Such people scare the living daylights out of me, there are a lot of them and they have money and influence

PS. I think this is a great thread - It is probably one of the most imortant issues to discuss because faith is a way of orgazing ones brain, thinking and viewing the world

I like the build, size and weight of Sigma's lenses - I have the 10-20mm EX DG and love the feel of it

But I stumbbled on a review Sigma 24-70 f2.8 EX DG Macro & Tamron 28-75 f2.8 XR Di Macro Photo Gallery by lightrules at pbase.com that showed alot of IQ in favor of the tamron. So now i'm thinking, should I go for IQ or feel - will the IQ make a real difference - Am i totally nuts even thinking of going for the feel of a lens over IQ?

just my thoughts
