picked up a few bargains from cashies a couple of years ago (A 50mm macro for about $25 etc), but last few times i've been back to adelaide northpark / salisbury / elizabeth they've had next to nothing. pricing makes me laugh, I think they price on size of the lens as they dont really have a clue. :)

yep, maybe "budget end" isn't the right term when the competition starts at $10k LOL!

value for money would be better term. $6000-$8000 for 51mp MF would be a bargain and they would very quickly dominate the digital MF market (which is only small but would get bigger with that on the market).

personally I think pentax would succesful with $2500 a900 like ff and a 645 and a higher end apsc :):) (but obviously production is the issue :) and I dont really have much clue of the market :):)

but I would guess that pentax would go for the budget end of the mf market???, that part of the market competes against dslrs. seen a number of comments elsewhere of people saying they were thinking of mamiya but bought 1dsmkiii / 5dmkii / a900.

when you multiple exposure & bracketing available I would think that with just firmware change you have in camera hdr (3 or 5 shot), be a great selling feature IMO

How many camera bags do you have?

like dueces I have a bookshelf (1ft wide x 6ft high) for home.

then 3 bags, one enormous backpack holds can hold about 15 lenses and 2 bodies and probably 400+ filters, batteries etc etc. BUT fully loaded with my gear it comes in at 15kg-20kg so it is my portable bookshelf for when I going away and can be left in car / hotel etc.

then large shoulder bag which I can fit about 8 lenses and no body or less lenses and body.

then my little bag which holds 2-3 lenses.

sometimes I think I would like something in between each of them but then do a reality check and decide I have enough bags.

(I also have various pouches things that come with lenses but dont get used)

not relevant but I had a promaster 7000? for my ds that I was always happy with. IMO you dont see many complaints about the promaster flashes. try searching on dpreview, number of people there have it. It looks very nice, doesn't have hss if that is an issue for you.

Photokina report - pentax interview: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review

News/Gossip.

Amateur Photographer UK quoted in their Photokina report supplement "Informer" - in 18 October issue this week, that Pentax is again considering manufacturing their digital medium-format system.

They have already developed the technology to deliver the 40-50 megapixel system. This was quoted by Toshiaki Iue, Vice President of Sales and Marketing to selected journalists. It all depends on the market research indicating if there is a big enough demand for such a model before commiting to manufacutring it. It would be Iue's preference to forge ahead with it, as a similar product is not available from either Canon or Nikon. If the research indicates that it isnt a commercial option then they are poised to go develop a FF DSLR. And that means going against against Canon and Nikon, and by Iue's own admission Pentax would be on the back foot.

He did not commit to a time frame, but recognised they needed to act quickly. Only one from the above could be produced in the short term - but in the longer term if things went well, both could be eventually produced. He said Pentax was open minded about producing a Micro Four Thirds model, but feels the K-m addresses that market (apparently the 'm' stands for mini).

----

I think we have just about every combination of pentax making and/or not making a 645, FF and micro by now LOL!

I really dont want to start another apcsc vs ff thread but this is an article that discusses both sides of the argument that I thought some people may find interesting (its for sony a900 but still interesting)

Do you really need an Alpha 900? | Photoclub Alpha

(how about we keep it nice and civil and not comment one or the other :))

(oh and if your not interested, just ignore the whole thread :):))

not really allowing for this and very rough & simplified :)

apsc $50 -> cameras from $500
ff (2.5x area of apsc) say 4x apsc cost at $200 -> cameras from $2000 (canon 5d)
645 (2.6x area of ff) say 4x ff cost = $800 -> camera from $8000 ?? (well mamiya is 10k)

Pentax K20D vs Canon 40D

I dont have a problem, I have been taking photos of my kids doing pretty much anything and everything, but around the net in photography there seems to be some problem / dislike for "soccer moms". (I once saw a guy comment that local 10 year match had 3 journos and over 20 soccer moms most of whom had $5000-$10000 of camera gear :) - I think he was just jealous of their pics and 500mm lenses :))

its actually not much smaller than the bigma (for same focal length (obviously not when bigma @ 500mm :) and it has the worlds longest hood :) but it is a lot lighter and easier on arms.

the 'soccer mom' thing always amazes me.
(my kids play hockey and the local journo and I are often the only ones there with cameras, so I am probably missing a lot of the culture?).

Someone wants to take great / stunning photos of kids, buying nice portrait gear and doing portraits is all ok, but not catching them playing their sport? and going to a triathlon / cycling / event with the same gear to take photos of random people who you dont know is deemed ok :)

damn, things that slip your mind. shooting landscapes all weekend and the exposures were all over the place (many about 1 stop over / under) got really annoying. drove home (couple hours) trying to think through everything that I was doing that may have caused it. totally forgot about this

I had a friend who is a professional astronomer (tracks asteroids to see if likely to hit earth), unfortunately lost contact over the years but when I had a nice new ds, his telescope (which has own building etc) had a 16mp camera. size of about 2 shoeboxes the electronics were liquid nitrogen cooled to cut down the noise :)
