*EDIT - Can you close this? I'm an idiot and confused avatar and profile picture. Jesus, I feel retarded.
I've been trying to upload a profile photo but keep getting a failure message saying it's too large. I edited the photo to be 119x119 and only 3kb but still no dice. I'm thinking it could be a problem with some of my anti-virus, spyware or pop up software though it seems unlikely. I use nod32 with personal firewall, CounterSpy and AdMuncher, which filters any incoming data from the internet and removes ads. I'm going to try with everything off now and I'll post the results.
Thanks for any help.
*EDIT - Just went to my profile to see if turning everything off would help and saw that the picture I want is there as my profile picture but not showing up in any threads of posts of mine. I tried deleting it and re-loading with all my software disabled and still the same thing. It's currently my profile photo but I even signed out and checked some posts and it's still not there.

I would hope someone would recognize that there's a market for good quality, reasonably priced lens for the older Pentax bodies. What do you mean by FF? Couldn't figure out the abbreviation. Thanks for the reply.

I had a feeling that was it. I'm guessing they demand a much higher price and are a rare item. How are they differentiated from other lenses? Say if I stumble upon one when I'm trolling through NYC's second hand and pawn shops? Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm, unfortunately, going to be posting some random questions as I'm doing a bunch of research on bodies, lenses, etc. Just bought my first film SLR and as I go through the web pages, somethings I come across can't be found on Google or through the search function on the forums.
So...what does the asterisk denote when it's used in a lens name? The example I read is what's in the title: Pentax A* 200mm f. 2.8.
This was mentioned in the Photo.net Favorite Lens thread. The poster says "that asterisk matters" and my curiosity was piqued.
Thanks for any info.

In the "Cheap 200mm Zoom Comparison, FotoPete reviewed the Tokina SD 70-210 f4-5.6 and I was wondering what the SD stands for. Couldn't find it online or the forums and the curiosity is killing me. In the review, it seems as though the SD designation should deal with green and purple fringing. Thanks for any help.

Hi, was hoping someone could check out this link and tell me if this is a decent buy. The ZX-5n is on the "Best" Pentax list at 5 but the camera for sale doesn't have the n. What does that denote? Is it a big deal? I'm still doing a lot of research on beginner cameras but it seemed like a good price and I don't want to miss out on a deal. I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks.

Do a lot of photographers end up moving to digital? I'm not against digital, and if it turns out to be a better option, I'm willing to switch but I like the idea of using film. I guess for me there's a lure to using film, some sort of miss placed nostalgia considering I grew up in the digital era, plus I liken it to analog records: there's an opinion out there that analog records capture a quality of music that digital can't because it captures everything, where as I feel digital recording is an interpertation because the music is converted to binary code. I could be completely wrong with this opinion but from some things I've read online, it's what formed in my head. I'm curious about your (everyone's) opinion on this, though a switch would be far in the future.

Yea, I've got a lot of research to do. I've got the basics down but there's so much it's a little daunting. I'm curious about the second number in the lens sets you mentioned, i.e. 28/2.8, 50/1.7, etc. What does it refer to?
I also checked out that Super you linked me to. I'm a little worried there's no DOF. Is that huge deal? Considering my lack of knowledge and skill, will I waste a whole lot of film because everything's out of focus and I can't check it? Or will that happen even with a DOF?
Thanks a lot, Monochrome, you've definitely helped a brotha out.

That's a great link, thanks. I was about to reply that a lot of the technical jargon in the list of cameras on Dimitrov's Pentax page is over my head and confusing. I needed a more personal rating with explanation to gauge what I need. I want a completely manual camera for the most part. I have a P&S camera for regular photos and this is going to be for hobby photography. Would you suggest the level directly below the LX as a body that's not too advanced to screw up a beginner but sufficiently so that it will challenge me to learn more and allow me to do so?

Film. I don't think digital comes out as well and there's just something...satisfying about a film camera even if it isn't as convenient.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for. I was thinking the same thing, that I would outgrow a K1000 quickly and get frustrated because I needed a new body so soon. I'm making my way through that website you linked. Still open for suggestions, though. Thanks again.

So the K1000 is my best bet? I haven't checked out the levels above it in the Pentax family and don't know how they're named but is there a K2000 that's slightly more advanced or do they jump up by leaps and bounds? Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi, just joined and I gotta say this site is great. I appreciate everyone taking time out to help out people in my situation, i.e. just starting.
I was wondering what everyone's opinion is for the best start up camera. I've heard the K1000 A LOT but wanted to just pick some peoples' brains. The fact that some people feel the 1000 has very few options is somewhat bothersome. I take photography seriously and I really want to delve deeply into it and I would rather not have to buy a new camera soon after a 1000 because I've outgrown it. Any ideas? I don't need a professional level body and I know the lenses are a huge part of taking pictures but I do want some advanced options. I understand this is a Pentax site but feel free to suggest another company as long as it isn't taboo here.
Thanks for any information.
