Ricoh WG-80

Seems a pity they missed the opportunity to have raw output. Why would that be hard to add? Also, it really is time to do these in a 1" or even apsc sensor size. I have one from years ago I got for fishing, before I had a smart phone. I'd get another if it output raw and had a larger sensor---my Theta has a 1" for crying out loud. Well, guess it's time to get that waterproof case for it.....

Oh, right! They don't make one for the Z1! grrrrrrrrrrr

K-70 replacement model?

It's interesting that the K-70 is still in production but the KP is now reportedly out of production. That is according to what Ricoh reps have said to Japanese stores. The silver version stopped production late last year and the black one last week. Silver is still available in limited numbers at some retailers, black is still available everywhere for now. That doesn't mean to say the KP is officially discontinued yet on the Ricoh website. If you specifically want a KP, I wouldn't recommend waiting too long.

It makes me wonder whether they will keep producing two models or just produce one model which merges some of the characteristics of both the K-70 and the KP to eventually replace both. The KP seems to have been successful over here. I'm not so sure about the K-70, but that has had a long run. Certainly there is a huge gap between the current price of the K-70 and what the K-3 III is expected to sell for.

Not so daft, in my view.

An important filter to have would be a neutral density filter. Such an optional filter is present in some cameras and could be added to DSLRs as well.
Beyond coping with situations that require shutter speeds in excess of 1/8000s, such a filter, if placed strategically, would help avoid the use of HSS in flash photography without causing the usual ND filter issues like requiring step up rings, making the viewfinder dark, and/or causing trouble with AF.

Actually, DSLRs would be advantaged regarding camera-internal optional ND filters. These would only affect the sensor but leave the viewfinder and the AF system unaffected. Mirrorless cameras would be impeded regarding the viewfinder (darker or noisier image) and AF (slower or failing acquisition). I wish Ricoh could make this difference count and demonstrate that there is merit to the idea of "Long live the DSLR!". :)

I think now that I have a bit more experience with GRIII, I notice the differences with K-1 files much more. Dynamic range is probably the biggest thing. K-1 files are so flexible, it's crazy. It's hard to take a photo that's impossible to recover imo. +1/-1 has no impact on noise, +2/-2 are pretty minimal as well. You can pull shadows to +100 and see little to no impact.

GRIII gives me beautiful shots, especially when I get my exposure spot on, but RAW's are less flexible overall, plus I've noticed that at least with GW-4 I get less resolution on detail. Looking at it in a browser, or in my file manager, it's less obvious, but I do notice it when I'm working on files (zooming in and out to work on different parts of the image etc). Maybe that's just the GW-4 though, I need to compare to shots taken without it.

I'd be interested to play with K-new raw's when someone will share them, to see how they stack up to my K-1.

I kind of hope it's called a 'K-3 III', anyone else?

I doubt Ricoh/Pentax is seeing themselves participating in a race.
