Hi all,

Seems I've taken a bit of a hiatus from PF. No reason, other than general life stuff and lack of spare time...
Hope you're all well. This was one of the rare times I took some landscape photos last year.

500CM, Planar 80/2.8, Kodak Portra 160

This particular roll features scratches over most of the photos  Guess I won't be going to this cheap and convenient lab again...
With that said, I like how this one turned out as a kind of happy accident. Deliberately let the colours go off a bit to add to the messy look.

Is this a recent photo Arjay? Are you in Perth at the moment? I wasn't expecting to see a photo in here from my own (almost) back yard.

I was recently given a Rolleicord III that was my wife's grandfathers. Manufactured in the early 50s apparently. Speeds slower than 1/50 are rather sticky however other than that it's fine to use.
I've been quite pleasantly surprised by the detail resolved by the lens and also quite like the look in general. Noticeably less contrast than a modern lens and a lot more flare.

That's lovely :D I visited Cradle Mountain NP and went to Marions Lookout back in 2012. What a wonderful place.

Wow, that would have been a gold mine for a VW enthusiast

Sounds like things are relatively similar, so perhaps my hypothesis of trends being regional is false

The clue to his location is in his name ;)

It feels to me like some of these trends are region specific. Are the good point and shoot cameras also very expensive in Belgium?
For example the Olympus mju

Use a compact lens and swap the prism for the folding focus hood (ie. WLF) and the P67 becomes an easy walk around camera.
I don't really get why people think of it as "huge". Perhaps because it so closely resembles a 35mm SLR?

I think you're getting into way too many ill thought out stereotypes here...
I'm part of the "30 something generation", don't follow fashion and try to avoid camera trends within reason :p and generally deliberate over any gear choices for an extraordinarily long time...

From my perspective, my generation is generally better informed overall than my parent's generation, the "boomers".
(now there's a counter stereotype for you, which may also infuriate many on this here forum!) ;)

From my perspective, the rise in prices is directly linked to the popularity and is somewhat predictable. In the last couple of years a lot more people have gotten into film shooting.
Often the first thing that someone new will ask and read about online is "what camera should I get?". Watching some youtube videos is a good way to get an idea about how a certain camera performs, the usability and a hint to the results that can be obtained. The more experienced photographers on youtube already have their favourites and of course they will recommend them.
Hence the popularity of some models starts to grow. And then more people talk about them and recommend them and it grows further.

In my opinion, the trends are spreading to more models of camera quite quickly. I think this is predictable too, as a model such as the M6 becomes really expensive then people start looking at cheaper RF options and over time the prices of those go up too. What I'm seeing is the prices of any "desirable" camera going up.

Regarding the P67 this seems to be gaining popularity as a portraiture camera with the 105mm lens. And portrait photos shot on film appear to be very popular.

And regarding P645, here in Australia I've seen more people using these recently. It still seems affordable, though maybe not for too much longer!

Overall I think the popularity trend is a positive; however it is very frustrating indeed when I want to buy a new Distagon lens for my 500CM and they are becoming out of reach :(

I finally tried out the new Ektachrome recently in 120. Amazing colour and contrast from this film; in some cases I had to tone things down slightly after scanning.

Ok. I've had this a couple of times recently too. I find I can live with it as long as it's small liike you describe.

I really like this - a classic layered landscape shot on 35mm film - nice!

Neglible problems visible in this photo, IMHO. I looked at the bigger one on Flickr too.

Unless one lives in an Islamic country? :p

It's hard to say what is considered a general comfort food here in Australia. Perhaps the humble meat pie.

My favourite word - "Lense" and possibly other typos

I dislike the "yous" thing too. It can occasionally be heard here in Australia.

One thing that I really noticed after learning another language, is that in English we only have the one word for "you".
I believe that the word you is the plural form and we no longer have a singular form.
With that in mind, the "yous" or "y'all" thing makes sense as it's assuming that "you" is singular and then "yous" or "y'all" is plural.

"Lense" annoys me too.

One of my least favourite language trends involves the use of the word "but" to negate the first part of a sentence.
eg.
“I love you, but I can’t be with you.”

Found a nice article which explains this concisely: Using the word ‘but’: a brief guide to sincerity & clarity

Film Ferrania | Kickstarter: Attention All Backers!

Assuming that Ferrania are trying to do the right thing and produce the film soon, what real benefit is there for moving away from Kickstarter?
I mean, they could just stay with Kickstarter, produce the film and send it to all the backers and that would be that - albeit with a 5+ year delay - but it would still be done.
From a backer's point of view, is there a single good reason to move away from Kickstarter?

For disclosure, I'm not really aware of the background of this nor am I a backer. Just someone that dislikes broken promises.

Erratic light meter on my MX

Mine has done the same in the past.
I also had a problem where the meter would not turn on when the shutter button was pressed softly.

I ended up getting it serviced and it's been fine since then. I don't remember the details of what the technician did, however I know he definately looked at the meter operation.
Perhaps it is an electrical contacts issue?
Also a gentle reminder to check the obvious, that the battery is not going flat :)

And as a final thought, you could try the facebook group "Learn Camera Repair"
There is a very experienced camera repair guy on that group by the name of Eugene Pate, who is currently posting photos of a very detailed CLA on an MX...
