I have the 31, 43 & 77 combo with smc coatings. Previously I've had the 35/2.8 Macro and 15/4 - fond memories of those. Looking at getting a DFA21 in the next 12 months.

Poor photographic technique is a well known variable and is a perfectly valid criticism of a review and a perfectly bad reason to give a lens a poor review - people should know that there are bad photographers / actors out there :p

I must see if I can reproduce some rainbow flare in any of my lens. Pretty sure I can poke my converted Leica into doing it, it goes bananas with the sun in the extreme of the frame. Or do you need the ND16?

You're doing it the wrong round :p
Pick up a cracked or fungi ridden FA and swap out the lens elements with the ones from your M - it'd be hilarious if that worked.

No, at least 3 iterations - the original flakey one, the quietly improved one and the 3rd which is completely redesigned. Black and white data can lie, look for the grey stuff too :)

SMC has always been a evolving coating. A tweak here, a tweak there. You can see it in the different coating colourings all the way back from the SMC Takumars through the K's and on to the SMC DA's.

Life is too short to get cross over a little thing like this. Didn't they say on one of the special site interviews (ages ago) that they wanted to look at delivering lens with unusual or interesting rendering?

I keep wishing the 77 had a teeny bit closer MFD, other than that a known quantity. An aberration here, a fringe there but magic non the less.

But the HD one has a Green ring! Hood wise, I've found that these 50s have always liked one to help contrast wide open, up to you to decide on metal, plastic, round or square. These might even kick off a thread or two on my 'classic' is better than your actual classic.

Long time no see @Axl :) - find a used K-3iii and pick and mix a small DA / FA set (15, 43, 70) and stop there for 6 to 12 months. I suggest the K-3iii over the KP because there isn't a massive difference size wise but you'll be getting the best of breed DSLR.
Lens wise, my suggestions would be a cheap reintroduction to the Pentax fold while delivering great quality in a small size.

I found it, on the landing outside one of the bedrooms under a reading chair. Presumably someone had brought it upstairs as a hint that it belonged in my attic lair and then another decided that they needed the chair. 77 is now going FF :)

I seem to have misplaced my K-1 somewhere. It's in the house, gripped and has the DFA*50 attached but I'll be damned if I can find it :p

A good 'K' will be better than an average 'A' but a good 'A' is a joy. Not as good as a DFA* but a great lens nonetheless. I suggest you invest in a O-ME53 as it'll help nailing focus.
