It's Spring here. Unfortunately due to the strange weather, all the plants are acting as though it's Autumn or early Winter.

Here, you may see Nature doing exactly what we don't expect.

I'll set up the IRC channel. If you guys want to take it over with your own power structure I'll hand it over when you're ready.

Mainly because (from experience) initial configuration of an IRCd (a decent one) is a pain in the arse.
irc.crystalirc.net #pentaxforums
is the channel that's configured, if anyone drops by i'm MidnightCommando on there, I'll be keeping the channel warm.

OT:
6mm fisheye-nikkor on a full-frame nikon body, it's got a field of view of 220° and it's damned expensive. as in, better off buying a mansion.

lol, you wouldn't need to be setting up an irc server, just a little applet linking to where the actual pf channel is, but ... whatever you feel best. my offer still stands.

That was an idea that had floated into my head, but I did also want to gauge interest in the idea.

Forums are generally good places to go when you want to post something and (generally) get thought out responses. I always considered IRC to be rather more spontaneous.

I can see your point, my main idea was kinda "hey, let's see if anyone else is feeling chatty" *click* *log on* "oh hey, a bunch of pentax people i can get along with!"

As said, just throwing the idea out there along with an offer of my services.

I can't say that IM appeals to me too much, I mean I make all my IM stuff public because that's the sort of reckless e-person I am, but cybersafety 101 is don't give out personally identifiable details. Hence the idea of a safe space for spontaneous assembly and discussion.

Anyhow, thanks for the consideration, and if perchance your stance on this does change, or others express a similar clamour, you know where to find me, if I'm not out trying to get my K20D to stand on its head :p

Hi everybody.

I've got to say first of all on this one - yes I have an agenda to push with this suggestion.

OK. Forums are very very nice things, especially when you're used to them and the unique sense of community a well-managed forum such as PF may provide.

BUT - sometimes one just wants to chat randomly, and that's not something forums are very well suited to.

I've always been partial to IRC myself, given there's a client for pretty much every type of computer devised since the 80s, and so, I ask, would PentaxForums perhaps be benefitted, or would its users appreciate, an IRC chat room?

(of course a java irc applet can be placed somewhere for those that don't have IRC clients on their computers)

(This is where my agenda comes in to play)
If you guys are interested, get in touch, I'm admin on a small and friendly IRC network where you'll find us quite accomodating. (going on one and a half years!)

Oh gods.

I have one of those.

It came with a Minolta mount (I think, but it fit on a Nikon FM very loosely ), which I unscrewed, and then I cemented on a Pentax K mount from a broken Vivitar 70-210 which was very FUBAR.

It works now as a macro lense. Which is why I do almost no macro work ;)

You're gonna hate me for this, but the only diagonal splits I've seen are in the Praktica MTL5B and the Nikon FM2/n.

I've _never_ seen a pentax k-mount camera that has a diagonal split, and only the prakticas in M42.

pinout of remote shutter plugs

I'd rather build it myself and be assured of the quality, know that if something goes wrong it's my own stupid fault.

I appreciate the offer of goodwill - i'd put the info up myself if I had a working multimeter xD

Thanks.

It's just a matter of how much voltage runs across those pins. It would be minute but might just be enough.

I'd say the easiest way to do that would be a pass-through connector on the TTL hotshoe... I haven't a pinout yet but i am considering this too.

If you could hijack the pin that tells the flash to provide AF assist, which is most likely the bottom left pin (don't take my word for it as i have only a vague idea), you might be able to do this. Only problem is that this means two cords, which I guess runs counter to your purpose ;)

I'm going to build myself one of these remote trigger babies on Thursday, I'm wondering how much voltage and current runs across the switch, because i'm thinking of using one of the switches that has a tiny LED in it to let you know it's on... if I had that for bulb mode it would be terribly useful, and it would only require about 1.75V iirc.

Ideas? (btw, of course I will show the unit when i've done it :D)
