I'm quite happy with the sensor to be honest but the dust sealing and the build quality are the things that have stopped me adding a GR IIIx to my GR III. I've had the camera lock up on me a few times but removing and refitting the battery fixes it. I'd rather it didn't do that. I've got a bit of dust on my sensor but wider than f/8 and you don't tend to see it anyway. The other thing stopping me buying a GR IIIx is that I've discovered that my old Canon EOS 6D (fairly small body) and my EF 40 pancake lens is small/light enough to use on a wrist strap. Still much bigger than the GR IIIx but same focal length, FF sensor and comfortable to carry along with my GR III.

Its not blowing me away to be honest but I think that it does send us a message...... that there isn't going to a GR IV anytime soon. They wouldn't have invested in a hardware mod like that if they were planning to replace it soon.

Really nice shot there. 20 second exposure?..... I've never put my GR3 on a tripod. I might have to give it a go

Most users buy a soft case which keeps the dirt out and it still fits in the pocket.

Yep, more and more my DSLR stays at home. In fact I've made a rule for myself.... I'll carry the DSLR in my car and I'll carry it in my bag if I'm walking less than 1/2 mile. Any more than that then its just the GRIII that comes with me.

P&S contest #179 is now closed.
After setting the subject I had to review my own judging criteria because I realised that I might unduly favour entries featuring movies that I had heard of or even watched, which would be unfair.
So the winning entry which I felt hit the brief is KWB's "Stray dog"
I love the way that the b&w treatment creates the light and shadow that draws the eye in to the stray dog in the centre. Well done KWB and to the others for their creative entries.
I do have to say that I was disappointed that only 3 people entered the competition. It can't really be described as a competition when its the same small handful of people who are entering every month and effectively taking turns to win each month. So as much as I enjoy competing, I'm going to give it a miss now.

Very nice. When judging, I'll try to ignore that "In Bruges" is one of my favourite films and that after watching it back in 2009, we subsequently spent 2 very enjoyable vacations "In Bruges".

Our wedding photographs are 43 years old and have suffered from colour deterioration. We haven't had them on display for many a year and I now feel I really need to put that right and have some of them restored. If I had the negs I would be able to do this myself but back in the day, the negs were the property of the photographer.
I can do the colour correction myself in Photoshop and I have a very good A3+ 10 pigment ink printer for the final print but I will need to get the original photos scanned in. One of the photos is almost A3 in size so its outside my capabilities.
What should I look for when getting someone else to scan the photos for me professionally in terms of DPI and the quality of their scanner? Thanks.

I'm sorry but for as long as I've been following this competition, the person setting it has used the time zone that they are in themselves. It seems to work and I'm not sure there is any reason to change it.

The subject of this months contest is "Movie Titles"
The subject of your photo should represent the title of a movie. not the plot or theme of the movie but the actual title. Please make sure to state the name of the movie that your photo represents although hopefully we should be able to work it out by looking at it. Example below (not shot on a compact)..... good luck, only 28 days in this month :D Midnight in Paris
Rules:
1. Always have fun!
2. Cameras:
No cameras with sensors larger than 1" (some exceptions below).
No large format or camera typically requiring a tripod to use.
No interchangeable lens cameras (some exceptions below).
No (D)SLRs or any camera weighing over 1kg.
Cameras permitted:
Mobile phones, tablets, small sensor toy cameras.
Pentax Q, Nikon 1, Ricoh GR, any 110 film, 35mm point and shoots from the 1980s/90s (e.g. Pentax PC35AF etc.)
Cameras you can take with you in a coat pocket.
ANY CAMERA BRAND ALLOWED.
3. Entries will close February 28th 2023, midnight GMT.
4. Maximum image dimensions are 1024x768 (ish) pixels.
5. List camera brand and model with entry for all to see, and exposure data would be nice.
6. No restrictions on when the entries were taken.
7. Contest winner determines the rules, selects theme, sets closing date and judges the next competition.
8. Enter up to three images, however you may change your entries as many times as you like up to the contest ending.

Thanks Jim for running the competition and for picking my photo out of a strong field. I have already come up with a subject for the next competition which I will put up in the next hour or so.

Yeah, I've been watching James for quite some time now, long before he got his GRIIIx. He's got a nice easy going style. Interesting that he's thinking about getting the standard GRIII next.

So sorry to hear about Colton and (if true) Steve. Both were such knowledgeable photographers particularly in the film photography sphere. They will be missed. Condolences to their respective families.

I can understand that you might want a better looking strap but be assured that the "flimsy nylon one" is certainly strong enough for the lightweight GRIII. I've actually got a couple of nice leather hand straps that I used to use with my film cameras but I prefer the flimsy nylon strap on my GRIII because of it doesn't add any bulk to what is a very pocketable camera.
