I thought Mobula rays were the ones that jumped? They do look similar. Either way that's very cool! Would prefer to be in the water with them though :)

it was a pleasant surprise we were out there for a picnic and I brought my camera for that but there it was, a big osprey nest. This was actually a little while ago in the summer, sorry I neglected to mention that. Saw it on my flickr and forgot how much I liked it :)

Wow, this is a really great series! I won't lie I prefer winter themed photos to anything else. Gotta be something about the struggle inherent to winter that I find interesting.

Shot from Sauvie Island. Osprey landing in its nest with a new twig. There is a little one in there but you can't see it in this picture |

This might just be the price point for me to upgrade from my k20d. Want movies for the newborn coming up and the high ISO would really help me out. Given pentax's history (big jump release the n a refinement...k7 to k5) i don't think i'd mind the k5 for years to come. Plus there is finally an ikelite housing available!!

Two shots from my trip to the zoo. Eagles on a bright day are a metering nightmare! Still can't quite get what I want as far as sharpness from this tamron but I guess thats to be expected. They look fine zoomed out but at 100% are not all that sharp. |

lets look at one key factor
-its not pentax specific(says pentax firs then canikon, etc)
To me this means it will be an accessory using a common connection (hotshoe, etc). Don't think its a hacked firmware or anything because canon has had that for quite awhile.
My hope would be bluetooth module for the hotshoe that plugs into the pc control port and pairs with an android phone for remote tethering but I don't even know if thats possible. Nevertheless, would be fun to mess around with! Don't have a k-5 or k-7 so I don't know what other connection interfaces are available but tethering to my phone would be very cool!

Took this today during an overcast morning at the Oregon Zoo. Have been without a telephoto since last summer so it was good to get back out there after acquiring the tamron 70-300mm. Bad conditions but I do like how it came out. Whole point of my trip was to practice shooting wildlife in overcast conditions. We have a membership so I figured what better place to practice?

my advice (as a man who's attended a baby shower for his daughter and way too many others) is to stop shooting pentax and start shooting smith and wesson.
100 people at a baby shower? Lets look at the annoyance factors:
1) 100 people together in a party setting is annoying as it is.
2) Babies are involved and for some reason people like to think they know more about babies than anyone else.
3) Parents are involved so there will be plenty of patronizing the parents (justified or not)
4) Parents will be attending. So lots of bickering over who's kids smartest and what the proper dietary needs of a child are.
5) The games. Dear lord.
in all seriousness, bounce flash (uness there are little babies involved) I've found thats not terribly annoying and it gives that warm, soft feeling all the baby people will love. Otherwise, get two flashes, one on body with a diffuser (if it will meter) and another one in your hand set to strobe. Same concept as a torch with zombies, you should be able to keep people at bay with annoying light.

Here are some shots from my December trip to Hawaii. Been very unmotivated in photography since breaking my only long telephoto. Didn't get the camera out too much but I did have some fun while there.
ps. Don't mind the dust, didn't notice till uploading to flickr once I got home
I can never get motion blurs quite right.
I personally really like the last one and its rare that I really like one of my photos. Of course, this one was PPG denied as most of the photos I actually like seem to be :o

uhh, not a lot of research needed...
"Unit of Measure: New Sealed"
my pentax only weighs 3 new sealed, wonder how much the k5 will weigh...
Also, the SKU is the same as the product number. Very clearly a bad attempt at a scam site...blenders is its own category?
also... Pentax Optio M50
hmm, didn't realize pentax made a POS DVD camcorder
Would love to get a counter scam going....

i'd take both bodies if I could, 55-300 on one and some wide angle on the other. I live in Portland (50 miles from St. Helens) and live with my 16-45mm attached to my k20d.
Dunno about the more northern cascades but September in Oregon is heaven. Not a ton of rain and mild/warm (for me, probably not for you). Kx would probably be fine if you're smart about it (had a rag with you to wipe off droplets and a jacket you could throw it in if it got really bad).
Some advice, bring a shell cause there will likely be times it rains and then stops and gets warmer again. Its raining in Portland pretty bad today but was in the 80's earlier this week. Seattle is similar just a big colder (its more closely marine moderated).
Whatever you bring I hope you love your time in the PNW. If you're looking for something kinda fun and outdoorsy to do this place in Eatonville, WA is kinda cool its called "NW Trek". Went there with my in-laws who live in the area a few weeks ago and was very cool. Like a zoo that has a giant shared enclosure they do this little tours through. Personally I prefer something thats not as "manufactured" feeling but I had a great time and saw some cool animals plus, you're on vacation, why not sit back a bit =)

I am absolutely terrified the camera police are going to come take my obsolete piece of crap camera and send me to a nikon re-education camp.
Was I interested in the d7000 and explore maybe if it would be a better system for me? Absolutely. Nervous? Why would I ever be nervous about a new consumer level camera? Fact is, it might draw more people nikons way. Nikon has something pentax doesn't, existing market share. Pentax is doing the smart thing (in my mind) and growing their entry level offerings. Get a young generation of photographers shooting pentax and you'll have people looking to upgrade as they grow.

i will admit, its tempting but given my history, I need the build quality of the k5 more than I need the autofocus of the d7000. It is very well speced and pretty tempting but they are basically similar cameras, d7000 being cheaper but not cheaper enough. I need to say this though. I chose the k20d over the d90 or spending more money for the d300 because I could get more camera, lenses and accessories for my money. At that time a FA 50mm f/1.4 was between $160 and $200; right now on amazon its $360. I love pentax and the quality of gear I receive but its becoming less attractive to stay a pentax customer. Beat the competition if you're going to price like the competition, not come close.
Why do I shoot pentax? Ergonomics, weather sealing, quality of lenses available, bang for my buck and probably a little because I like being in a niche rather than the mainstream. That said, those factors are becoming less important as the cost of pentax gear gets insane.

wow photo was removed from my post a few pages ago.
My inclination is thats a legit photo...mode selector dial is one row of bumps taller, the AF selector switch is beveled and the inside of the lens looks like pentax's PR photos for other cameras.

that picture is not a k7...k7 the mode selector has 3 rows of raised bumps while the camera in that picture's mode selector has 4. Not definitive (if you photoshop k5 onto something you could photoshop a different mode selector).
