It does have green button functionality - in manual mode, hit the EV comp lever. You can customise what it does in Key Custom Options>One Press M Mode.
In P mode, you can use the dials to override and change the aperture. Hit the EV comp lever to return it back to program setting.

Some from the Singapore Zoo, shot with Nikon D3, 70-200 VR2 and a rented TC-20e III. Quite a useful combo, although one must be very careful using the TC with a Blackrapid-style strap. As it dangles upside down, the lens release button could easily be accidentally depressed, releasing the lens (don't think you'll be carrying anything heavier than a 70-200/2.8 this way though) onto the ground behind you. Had a couple of close-calls over the course of the day:eek:
Anyway, here are the shots.. Tried to shoot and edit with a theme of "Animal emotions/expressions" in mind.. |

Some shots of Singapore at night.. so much has changed since I was last back home!

Bayfront from the Helix Bridge
D3, Sigma 12-24
Not sure how this diffraction and starburst thing works on FF, need to experiment more.. But I realized the D3 sensor is a total dust magnet! Got to remember to clean the sensor before embarking on these tripod-mounted shoots (I usually shoot close to wide open so dust is hardly an issue most of the time)

Personally I still find the current implementation on the K-5 really awkward and troublesome. With my K20D I know that white balance, drive mode, flash mode are definitely two button presses away. With the K-5 I have to raise the camera to my eye to see if the little icon is lit, and if it is I have to hold the OK button for 3 secs, change the setting, hold the OK button again, then back to shooting. The workaround I have right now is to flip the AF-point switch to one of the other two and do my setting change, then flip it back. It kinda works but it's still not as convenient as the Fn button. I wish they could let me map the OK button to do what the Fn button did. I don't need to center my AF point as much as changing WB with ease.
Anyone else has the same frustration?

Took my recently-purchased Sigma 170-500 APO to the zoo today and got some good shots with it. Not as crisp and sharp as the better options and flares when shot into light but overall pretty good, especially for the price. The lens mount screws kept loosening and the lens kept losing its electronic connection as a result. Gonna have to Loctite the screws in to fix that problem. |

Shot the recent PSP Chicago Open at CPX Sports in Joliet, IL. A very harsh and hostile environment but the K-5 did a really fine job. The only problem I had was the glitchy behavior I reported in another thread after changing batteries, but that went away after a while. Oh, and this other problem:
Luckily the paintball hit on the K-5 and not on the Tamron 70-200, and I had stuck some gaffer tape over the speaker port minutes before. After that incident I taped a T-shirt over the lens since the plastic bag wasn't really working out.
Pentax's TAv mode is really super for sports, especially on the K-5 where high ISO is much more usable. I set it to f/3.5 and 1/3000s and managed to capture so many shots of paintballs in the air. Had the camera set to 7 fps continuous and "sprayed and prayed" for most of these.
AF-C also fared rather well, this photo was of the player running directly towards the camera |

The 18-250 superzoom is probably going to be too slow for dim stage photographs, unless you increase the ISO and live with the noise/grain. These photos were taken with a K20D in M mode with f/2.8 or faster lenses at f/2.8, ISO 1600, and varying shutter speeds. A fast manual prime might allow you to get rid of the motion blur from a slow shutter speed, though you might still have to live with the high ISO noise. The focal length you choose will depend on where you are shooting from and what kind of shots you are trying to get. |
