When I use to do my own B&W processing, once I had the film developed and washed, I'd run it through a wetting agent before hanging it up to dry. I cannot remember what the name of it ways. It might have been Photo-Flo, or some other brand. Worked every time.

Back when I had a K10D, I would use P mode. I wasn't shooting RAW then, but if I still had it I would be now. In darker areas (like a forest), I'd do EQ+2/3rds. I also use P mode for my current ones (K5, K3) since it's like aperature priority and shutter priority mode all in one and I like controlling ISO manually.

When I started out, I had tons of fun with 35mm film and a 50-mm lens. It was until 20 years later that I had something other than just 50mm.

For years I used PS Elements. Then I got PS Lightroom. Now elements only gets used for things that lightroom can't do, which is maybe 1% of the time.
As for Silky Pix, it sits on the computer unused. In fact, I don't think I upgraded it when I got the K-3. It's not very user friendly.

I occasionally use the kit lens (SMC Pentax 35-70mm zoom) that came with my SF-1 (still have that film camera). The lens is currently in the bag with my K-3. So, as others have said, those lenses will work great for you.

All of the cameras mention by Outis have cross-type autofocus points. In the case of the K3:
* SAFOX 11: 27-point phase detect (25 cross-type) w/ AF.S, AF.C, AF.A

I love my Bigma on my K3, it does a excellent job. Much better than when it was on a K20D.
Button placement will likely be the biggest learning curve.

I've used the older brother of the 18-270mm on the K3 - the 18-250mm Pentax lens - with good results. It currently resides on my K5, with the 18-135 WR on the K3.

I keep wishing I had kept the 50mm f2.0 that was on my ME Super when I divested myself of it.

I've had only self-caused glitches. Bought my K-3 in Feb., 2014. Upgraded the firmware immediately upon arrival.

How about a circular polarizer? I was also going to say an ND filter, but TaoMaas beat me to it.

Personally, I would keep the SF-1 and lenses (I did). There may come a time when you want to do something with film. And, if Pentax ever comes out with a full frame dslr, the lenses for the SF-1 will work for it.

Got my K-3 in February. I seldom use flash, so I cannot comment on that. I've never had the mirror-flopping issue. All the problems I've had with it I created myself.

Be glad you didn't get a K5. The manual was much thicker and bigger... and more comprehensive. The K3 manual leaves a lot to be desired and really is only good for reference, as noted above.
And welcome to the K3! It's an amazing camera.

Do you turn your K3 off between shots?
I'm about to start doing that. When I'm out walking around, if I take some pictures, then walk some more, with the K3 around my neck, several times I've gone to take another picture and the white balance has changed, or the drive mode changes... It's like the buttons on the back are too easy to press.
Anyone know of a way to prevent this from happening?

Speaking of the Instamatic... my folks were using one (they gave me their "Brownie") until a friend got them a 35mm rangefinder camera (I forget which model of Yashica it was). The Instamatic never came out of the drawer after that. The difference was incredible.
In the comments section of the Ars article I asked about noise performance. All I got in answer was down marks (last I checked). I found the comparison featured only the good points of the iPhone. That's probably why I got marked down.

Here's another vote for Lightroom. I've used various versions of Elements for several years (7, 10 and 12). Finally decided to try Lightroom and now I wish I had switched a long time ago.
Also, FastStone Image Viewer cannot process K-3 .PEF files. Press "A" to load in the raw data, and get nothing but color streaks. Works fine with the K-5 .PEF files.
