Early last week, we had our garage doors serviced after a torsion spring broke on the large door's mechanism. Consequently we pulled our cars out on the driveway, so after the repair guys left I decided to grab some snapshots while my cars were side-by-side. The shots were intended for my "electronic" scrap book, and I had no plans to post any of 'em here. I stuck 'em in a folder on my hard drive and put 'em on Flickr out of habit. None of the shots represent meaningful photography, but I genuinely like one of 'em and decided to go ahead and post it here. Why not?

Hey guys, I saw a post of Charliezap's synthetic stars in aid of the plain moon alone. I decided to take a star exposure I had and combine it with my moon photograph, except this time the stars are not synthetic.

Weekly Challenge Weekly Challenge #319 "Weather or not"

My family had been driving across Texas to the Chisos Basin at Big Bend National Park. All day we'd been trying to keep ahead of a weather system which was covering Texas with low-level clouds, fog, and freezing temperatures. By the time we reached Fort Stockton, the last place we could get cell reception before the park, the weather system was starting to catch up with us, and temperatures were starting to drop below freezing. We were worried-- we would have to drive up through a steep mountain pass to make it into the basin, and we were afraid it would be impossible because of ice. So we called the Chisos Basin to ask what conditions were like there, and they said...70's and sunny. HOLY COW. So we booked it over to the Basin. By the time we made it, the surrounding desert was blanketed by clouds and fog, but the mountains ringing the basin had been keeping the weather system out-- clouds were just beginning to spill into the basin as we arrived.

This first photo is my entry:

Not my entry for the contest, but I just wanted to add that in the morning, we ventured out into the desert, and the freezing fog overnight had transformed the desert into a wonderland. I've been visiting Big Bend National Park for 20 years and I'd never seen it like this.

The needles of ice from the frozen fog on the yucca leaves were spectacular.

love this time of year, late summer (or as me say here, summah)... just purchased some potted mulit-color mums...
beautiful, but even so was bored with my usual macro or otherwise snaps... just let my mind wander a bit and edited
through ribbet with a few tweaks and just happened to try the invert option, and voila....

Inspired by CharlieZap, this collage shows photos of a small cemetery in Ocracoke Island which holds the remains of Samuel G Jones, an eccentric and influential figure in the history of Ocracoke, and his favorite horse, Ikey D.

It didn't let me select a shutter speed of 1/2500 second, but the rest is right! I went outside since it si nice and clear and shot the moon from my balcony playing around. Anyway, any idea how much things seem to jump around handheld at 500mm?

Thanks, my friend. Yeah, I probably should have opened up a bit more when I shot 'em - as I said, the car's color combo was, for me, hard to manage. Vettes of this era only had about 190 HP, so they weren't the fire breathers they are today.

Jer

Hey Jason, the car was stuck in a show and grass was part of the deal. Maybe I can shoot this one on concrete one of these days.

Jer

Thanks, Cory. I appreciate the kind words.

Jer

I'll have to miss it, unfortunately. I'm in California at the moment.
