I live in a suburb just outside a major City (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada). There is still quite a bit of snow here so there's that to deal with. I have done the following so far:
1. There a few isolated places where I can get a decent Cityscape shot of Edmonton
2. Hit the range roads around here (country roads) and try and find some old abandoned barns
3. There are several horse ranches around try and find them with the horses out
4. Old Trees or at least interesting Trees with miles of fields in the background
5. Sweeping Landscapes (there are some huge farms out here)
6. Any wildlife I can find locally including Geese (just starting to come back), Deer , Bison (there is park nearby), Squirrels and damn now even crows and Magpies !
The struggle is real. The mountains (majestic scenery) are only 4 hours away , but this weekend so many people tried to go there , they are recommending stay away (Banff National Park and Jasper National Park I am almost in the middle of those two). I haven't resorted to indoor shots yet

You should see prices in Canada.
You presume I am not paying for IPTV from a legal source ? Any IPTV is not as reliable as Cable, hell even Cable drops from time to time as mentioned most cable companies use internet. We looked at Techsavy they have a good reputation and some friends a few towns over use them. My issue is they use Bell/Rogers Internet infrastructure which at least where I live not as reliable as Telus. I work in IT from home in a support role and need as close to 100% up time as possible. One thing I can say about Telus, in over 10+ years there has only been one outage that lasted long enough I had to actually go somewhere to work.
Yes like a Em and Em song you have one chance, one opportunity and that is generally as new custom for some leverage. We had some sort of service with Telus since the 90's so we use to have a little bargaining power. Since cutting Land Line and Cable there is less however they gave us a pretty good deal on Internet.
That's our issue as well. I did watch a couple Hockey games before the pandemic and it was pretty good. Now of course there is nothing so hopefully we will get some professional sports back in a few months. ---------- Post added 03-23-2020 at 05:39 AM ----------
I would agree with that most are crap and the 'packages' they offer are here are 2 of the 4 stations you really want and we will throw in 25 crap ones and 100 radio stations you will never listen to.

I can't get 100GB was just able to get half of that about 2 weeks ago. We got our land line many months ago. Internet is $65 + taxes with 2 year contract and loyalty discounts.
Yes the big guys in Canada will survive not only on their internet but mobility as well. They gouge us on Mobility plans as well, but that's lack of competition and population.

Who here subscribes to IPTV ? In case you don't know what it is , here's a link : Internet Protocol television - Wikipedia We tried it for a month and then decided to cut the cable cord. There are pitfalls of course. Not all channels are available at all times. Occasional server reboots may knock out everything for 30 - 40 minutes (only happened once), Guide is less than reliable and sometimes non existent, etc. There are advantages in so much content , 'catch up' features that hold 3 or 4 days of shows, etc. Unlimited data from your ISP is a pre-requisite here and a reasonable speed (I can't get Fiber here yet ahhhhh). In these days of social distancing and isolation I figure between all the streaming services we have , it will be well over 1TB / mo for who knows how long.
All that said the cost and content available for us make it more than worth while. Our cables companies here in Canada gouge us way more than they do in the US. At the peak (when the kids were still home) we were paying about $150/mo for cable. We did have a large package with sports and movies, time shifting but man .....
I believe the service will only get better and it will eventually knock out the few cable providers we have here (Canada). Once it becomes more main stream (it has been available for several years already) they may slowly increase the rates but now we will enjoy the ride.

This is Dick and Jane. Dick and Jane are married. Dick and Jane are adhering to the social distancing of 2 meters. Tom tries to encroach on that distance. See Dick and Jane's reaction. Be responsible be a Dick. |
