Irfanview may well qualify as a lightweight, quick, process-very-little-and email sort of app also. Very simple, lots of codecs available, dead simple, and best of all, free!

Not sure what you mean here. I can only assume you mean that you're using Pentax's supplied software, as it's the only one I can be certain of that is aware of the "in camera" settings. Otherwise, I think that what you've discovered is the dual-edged nature of RAW shooting, as well as the notion that the camera's lcd is useful for anything other than a rough preview and histogram information. Heck, I find that images that look to be in focus on the camera's lcd are not when viewed on the computer monitor(s). (Granted, that's on a K20D, and newer models may have significantly improved in that arena as well.)
But all in all, that's all part of the fun of learning the RAW process. You will begin to see how you'd like to process RAW images as you import them and work with them in the software of your choice.
Good luck, and keep at it!

Been a while since I posted here. Look nearly every day - there's some seriously good shots here!
Here's one of my daughter from earlier today. Super-Takumar 85 1.9 on a 5D2. Clara (1) by t0dzilla, on Flickr

You're welcome! Glad to be of some use to someone... seems like an awful high bar for me most days. :-)

Have you tried RawTherapee?
There's also a couple Mac specific ones, but not sure of their efficacy in Lion. One is Raw Photo Processor, and another in Rawker.
Good luck.

Not sure if it does what you need or not, but Faststone *might* work...
Good luck!

M50 1.7 on Samsung NX100 |

I recently got a Samsung NX100, mostly for video capabilities (Not its strongest suit, but for the price...) and the ability to use my manual focus K, M, and M42 lenses.
It's extremely fun to use in that regard, it has the same (I believe - please correct me if I'm wrong) sensor as my K20D, and gives very acceptable image quality. To be honest, I didn't think I'd enjoy it nearly as much as I do, and although I find myself using it more than the K20, it really isn't so much a replacement for a (d)slr as a complimentary tool. No EVF, although there is an available accessory.
Different strokes, I guess.

Ebay seller "Interslice." He currently has no items for sale, but the word is that his light seal kits are the best, as are the accompanying instructions. I am in no way affiliated with him, nor have I used any of his kits (yet.) There may well be other kits on the bay which may work as well, however; they'll not likely have the same reputation... good luck!

Went to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo Yesterday. Brought my Pentax SMC M 200 F4 mounted to the Samsung NX100.
The 2 hummingbird pics were massaged a bit in Preview, otherwise all ooc JPEGs resized in Aperture. |

Apologies for missing this post earlier - not sure how...
I actually have a copy of that Pentax SMC 200 4, also. Have for a few years, now. Like it very much!
I just pulled the Makinon out of my storage unit recently and thought it would be fun to try out on the Samsung. So many lenses to try, so little time...
Happy shooting!

Here's a few from yesterday's adventure at and around the Farmer's Market in downtown Omaha with my neglected J.C. Penny 28 F2.8. Just pulled it out of storage - haven't used it in a few years, but seem to recall that I really liked this lens.
Some of these are just resized out of camera jpegs, others have been PP'd to varying degrees. Samsung NX100.

I can only be certain that it's never been disassembled since being in my possession. I doubt that its previous owner did, either - it looks brand new/barely used.
As to there being a loose element... not that I can ascertain. When I get a chance, I'll take a closer look. With an 11 week old daughter, my guess is it should be around 2030 -ish. :)

Got this lens 2 or 3 years ago along with a Pentax MG. Hadn't really shot with it much. Dug it out of storage and suck it on my Samsung NX100. Has a funky bokeh, but somehow, I like it.

Super Takumar 35mm F3.5 on Samsung NX100. All shot wide open. This copy seems to get very soft at infinity (wide open - fine when stopped down to around 5.6) or thereabouts.

There is also the Samsung NX100, which is mirrorless and uses the same sensor as the K20D. 1/4000 shutter speed, flash up to 1/200. I've ben using lots of old lenses on it lately, m42 adapted to K, as well as K mount. Looking to get an FD adapter, too, for some good old fashioned FD mounted lenses. FUN!

Indeed, does look like fungus. But doesn't really look too bad. I bought an SMC M 135mm lens a few years back which had the same looking fungus. I removed the rear element and swabbed the offending nasties off with some 91% Isopropyl. Been fine ever since. TMMV, of course....
Good luck!

You know, I think I'm just too damn stubborn to see sometimes!
As I said, I have no affiliation with those folks - just happened to spot what I thought was a pretty good shot - barely had time to compose, nevermind focus. But I liked the shot anyway, and "Grandpa" seemed pretty pleased to have a copy.
Thanks for helping me to see outside the box for a moment - I very much like that treatment.

Shot this with Tamron 90mm 2.5 Macro (52B) mounted on my Samsung NX100.
Apologies for being slightly oof, but I still really like this shot. BTW, I have no affiliation with the subjects; they were random people at an outdoor mall's freebie concert. But I did get Grampa's email address and sent him a copy. :-)

I stand cheerfully corrected!
And the lens I sold was indeed the MC 1.7.

I sold one of these a couple months back. I only sold it because I had a few too many 50 mm lenses, and too few $$.
I found it to be an excellent lens, great bokeh, and reasonably sharp wide open.
I have been told - unverified, of course - that Sears branded lenses and cameras were made by Ricoh.
Yes, it has no "A" setting, but that's not a deal breaker for me.
If it's not too expensive (your call there) get it, take some photos, and post 'em up!

There's a package to be downloaded with Infranview that contains the extras that allow you to view your choice of raw files.
it's here: IrFanView Plugins - Software.com |
