I was rooting around in the freezer today and stumbled across a 24-exposure roll of Kodak Gold 200 in a black plastic film can, and I'm wondering how old it might be. Does anyone know or have a reasonable guess as to when Kodak switched from black to semi-clear cans?
Odds are it was part of a 3-pack I bought and has been freezer-kept its whole life, so I'm not afraid to use it even if it's somewhat past its best-by date. Thanks!

Has anyone ever replaced a set of Strobonar batteries at home? I have a couple of 770s that need new packs and the local Batteries Plus Bulbs gave up on them because the holders are somewhat brittle and there's a fear they may break. I'm willing to try myself if the job's not all that difficult, and it would be nice to hear from someone who's already done it. Thanks!

Pentax SF10 w/28-80 lens Asking Price
10.00 USD Item Location
Stoughton, WI (United States) Item Description
I have a Pentax SF10 with the 28-80/3.5-4.5 zoom lens for sale. It was part of a bulk purchase I made a number of years ago and I have never used it. No battery. There is a roll of film in the camera but it was loaded by a previous owner, and I have no idea what's on it or if it's even been exposed. $10 with free shipping, or free with $10 shipping if you'd rather think of it that way. Help me free up some shelf space!

I did a couple of keyword searches that came up empty, so apparently this thread has made it to 20 pages before the first mention of that awesome 1975 blaxploitation flick Friday Foster. I haven't seen it in years but IIRC Pam Grier totes a Spotmatic in a number of scenes.

I've acquired an old Heiland/Honeywell Strobonar Futuramic II flash and need the 2-prong AC adapter/charger. Does anyone know if it has to be the specific Heiland model? Or will any model of the right voltage and plug configuration work? Thanks!

For some reason I'm having difficulty finding the Spotmeter V thread size online but I'm sure someone here knows. Is it 46mm? That's what it seems to be but before purchasing any accessories I'd like to be sure. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.
Yes, it's the version with the AC unit and gray cable...and the 46mm adapter that arrived today is just a bit too large.:( Just for grins I fitted the flash to the 50mm lens on my Agfaflex IV and once again the flash threads were too small in diameter.
The flash did come with an adapter but it's to step up to a 62mm filter ring...quite a bit larger than Pentax's 49mm.

Recently I picked up an older Lester Dine ringflash and I'm trying to figure out the thread size. It's smaller than 49mm and bigger than 43mm; does anyone have an idea? I need to find an adapter that'll allow it to screw into a 49mm filter ring. Thanks!

Did Honeywell ever offer a wide angle diffuser for the Potato Mashers? I have a 770 that I'd love to use more often. Thanks!

Super Albinar 135/2.8 (free!) Asking Price
0.00 USD Item Location
Stoughton, WI (United States) Item Description
Super Albinar 135/2.8. Probably an eBay gamble that didn't work out, it's been sitting nose-first in bubblewrap here in my basement for several years now. Free for the asking and I'll even eat the UPS charges, but if you have a 46-49 adapter or a sixer of Keystone Light I'm always willing to trade. Are you the original owner of the item being sold?

I often splice my 35mm negatives and am thinking that there has to be a better way than holding the 2 pieces down with my finger as I apply the tape. I looked at eBay and the splicers are mostly for movie film; can one of them be used for still film? Or are there better options?
What I picture is a carrier that has 2 sides, sprocket hole pins to properly align/space the pieces being spliced, a center gap to make it easy to use tape, and a non-scratch bar that bridges the gap and holds the film flat without blocking access to the edges. Remember those 35mm flimstrip projectors from the '60s and '70s? IIRC the carrier that fit between the lens and the light had teeth to keep the filmstrip in place, and a couple of them could be used to rig something up.

A few years back I bought a Canon CanoScan 8800F scanner and set it up on a PC running Windows XP. In a couple of months I'm going to be replacing the PC with one that uses Windows 8.1, and am wondering about transferring the scanner drivers and software (including editing software MP Navigator EX 1.0). Has anyone gone through this? Is it better to get the latest drivers and software from Canon? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't given the DIY approach much though but my wife works next door to a Hobby Lobby so getting the materials should be easy.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a small tabletop reflector or umbrella setup? I'm thinking of something in the 6"-8" range and the mounting system wouldn't need to raise the reflector more than 12" or so in the air.
When I use my ringflash at a low angle the background is sometimes underlit and my idea is that a small flash bounced off of a reflector or umbrella could be used to bring up the light a bit. Thanks!

Blast from the past...
Has anyone used Vista recently? Since 12-exposure rolls are getting tougher to find I'm trying to stock up when I can, and I can get 5 rolls of Vista 400 (exp. Aug. 2014) for $2.70 apiece on eBay. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'm rather late to the party here but the front end looks a lot like a '70-72 Chevy Monte Carlo and the body style is reminiscent of a '68-72 Tempest/Chevelle/Skylark (Special)/Cutlass (F-85). And the Kingswood name was used on Chevrolet station wagons from at least the late '50s. You mentioned in a later post that you think the 202 CID straight 6 is of Australian heritage and I believe you're correct; dating back to the late '40s the smallest Chevy 6 was 216 CID. A friend of mine works for Ford "down under"; I'll have to quiz him on the Kingswood to see what he knows about it.
Very cool...good luck with the project!

I bought some gear today and included was an Omega Chromegatron Pro-Lab Color Analyzer. Is this a piece of darkroom equipment or can it operate in standalone mode? Naturally, it didn't come with a manual and I could do some poking around online, but I'd bet that there are a few here who are familiar with it.
If it happens to be for darkroom use I'll have no need for it, and will happily trade it for a pizza and a six-pack.

Yep, it's an eBay offering. It's a manual-focus lens and the 24-43 length does show up in various places around the web, but $100 is a bit much to gamble without knowing some solid details.

Does anyone here have experience with the Osawa 24-43mm f/3.5-4.5 "macro" lens? I really like the focal length range but at around $100 I'd like to have an idea of its performance before forking over the cash. Thanks!

From a marketing standpoint, I wonder if making bulk film more available might have a positive impact on sales. Years ago when I was strictly B&W I kept 1 Lloyd loader filled with 125 and another with 400, and the convenience and ability to tailor roll length to a situation probably led me to shoot more film than I would've had I been limited to whatever factory lengths were available. Since I no longer have a home darkroom I've converted primarily to color and would very much love to do the same.
As far as I can tell, color film from anybody appears to be limited to 24 and 36-exposure rolls these days. I found the 12-exp. rolls to be at times very handy and would love to get my hands on some more.

Lomography has a new(?) 110 color film and B&H carries it, but I can't offer any kind of feedback.

Even though this is an old thread I'm looking at this particular lens (Craigslist link): Pentax Lens
Think it's worth $50? I like that it apparently has an integral K-mount and not an adapter, so I'm guessing it's from the late '70s, and per the seller it's branded Toyo Optics and was made in Japan. Thanks!
