Love the CCD.
I have owned K200D from new, and despite having 'upgraded' a few times to more modern offerings my 77 Ltd lens lives on it. Wonderful portrait/close up combination

So this subject has reared its head again on the Forum. I remember contributing to this very same discussion some years back.
Just drill a little hole in the mount so that the lens locks before it locks into the original hole. This has the same effect as to not quite fully mounting the lens, but with a locking advantage. It works on AV very well. And if you wish to return the lens mount to an original state just pop a tiny bit of solder in the hole or replace the mount from an old broken lens.

Steve
I'm not suggesting Teo walks around taking pictures with an unattached lens. The idea is to see what exposure readings the camera provides compared to the lens being locked on. If the same, so be it. If different it might help to solve what might be going on here.

Try this
When you attach the lens to the camera do not turn to full lock mode. Stop a little short so that the aperture lever on the lens is not held wide open, or even touched, by the camera mechanism. Then into AV mode. Adjust exposure +/- accordingly according to f stop

Try this
When you attach the lens to the camera do not turn it to full lock mode, but stop just before. The idea of this is to stop the aperture lever on the lens being moved. Go into AV mode and see what happens.

A little bump along.
Took my much ignored SP 35-210 (26A) out last week. It's old and heavy but I am still surprised at what it can do.

Same happened with me on my Sony Nex F3, with Sony M42 Adapter.
I also have a PK/Nex adapter. I put my original Pentax M42 adapter (for PK DSLR's) into the Sony PK and it worked fine....

I too would like to emphasise what dlacouture and Kevcol say about using K and M lenses in AV mode.
I have two K lenses where the aperture lever would not return under spring pressure, largely due to oily blades and weak springs. The aperture rings however did open and close the irises. After two unsuccessful dismantling and cleans I resorted to the tried and tested, but painful, cutting off the aperture levers, thus turning the lenses into M42 type operation and full use of AV mode. I was so pleased with the results that I contemplated cutting a few healthy 'M's as well......and I'm so glad that I found this article first. Thank you both
I will admit to drilling lock holes in the mounts of eight M and K lenses but mounts are easily changeable if required. Severed aperture levers are not.
Oh, and a couple of Tamron Adaptall mounts and a couple of Vivitars and a Chinon got the treatment too. All working very well. No more Green Button. Yes:)
Thank you again

I like the IQ quality of my two cameras as well. I have an istDL2 and a K100D.
Both of yours are allegedly better than mine for IQ
And the K5, K5II will be even better!!!????
On a computer screen? On a A4 print?
Don't think so.
Don't bother until one or the other of your current cameras fails

Paperweights indeed - not. That's what I thought the Tammy 135. 2.5 was according to the underwhelming review on the Adaptall site and compared to the rave reviews of some other 135's I have. Thought I'd give it a try - and I love it. I use a PK adapter with the aperture lever cut off so I can use it in AV mode, plus a little + exposure. Just like M42 lenses.

My first posting (I think) in this lens club, although I have posted a few in others. When you are in with the elite I am rather humbled to post anything after what I have seen here. Anyway, here goes. My favourite lens by far is the S-M-C Takumar 100 f4 Macro, closely followed by the S-M-C 50 f4 macro. Just beautiful colours that I cannot get from any other lens manufacturer..
Here's a few from the 100. Be kind please.......I'm just trying to bump the Takumar Club along.
I know the sensor is dusty and in other posings I have made some of the pictures have been darker on other monotors than mine....hopefully these look OK
White balance and histogrm adjustment only. f5.6 - f 11

Sorry to but in on these lovely pictures but I have to tell us Adaptall folk something I have discovered - although I suspect this may have been discussed previously. Too many threads to go through at the moment.
I have recently 'butchered' three PK mount lenses that had either oily or slow apertures and after many cleaning attempts I decided to cut the aperture levers off. I can now set the aperture manually on the lens, put the camera into AV mode, focus, point and shoot. I am so pleased that I can use these again, and no more Green Button either.
A thought occurred to me regarding Tamron Adaptall mounts. What if I cut the aperture arm on one of my mounts? Doesn't harm the lens so why not try? Just did it and.........it works!! Almost a PKA mount for next to nothing.:) I can only test under night lightbulb conditions at the moment so I do not know if +/- exposure has to be dialled in but using my 35-70 09A it metered according to zoom length and f stop.

I'm not sure if this is the correct area to ask, or even if it has been featured in another thread, but as there are a few of us LBA sufferers here that have collected several (presumably) manual focus lenses I wanted to make an obsevation on White Balance settings depending on the manufacturer of the lens being used.
On cloudy days I set the balance to cloudy and all of my pictures have extremes of a brown tinge - some very, some not so much, depending on the lens used.
Auto White Balance is invariably blue tinged; ditto Sunny on sunny days. Shade works sometimes
Today, in London, it was very warm and sunny. I set the camera to Daylight White Flourescent Light using a Pentax M 100 2.8 (lovely lens). The white came out white and all other colours were as should be. This also seems to be the same for some other Pentax SMC lenses too. Tamrons and Vivitars, Russian and East German lenses sometimes get it right on this setting, others not.
Is it the coatings, the sensor, or pot luck? Or me?
I use an isd DL2 and a K100D.
For Post Processing I use Coral PSP X2. It has a lovely feature where you can point at an area that should be white, click on it, and all becomes right again, but I would rather get it right first time.

120 at the last count. Recent price increases have all but cured my LBA.
All cheap and good, largely consisting manual focus Taks, Pentax K's and M's, Adaptalls, Vivitars, various communist and other M42's.
Only 6 Autofocus among them, including 2 Mk 1 18-55 kit lenes that came with the DL2 and K100.

Thank you for your comments. These looked fine on my monitor at home but when I checked my posting at work this morning I was horrified. Well, slightly embarrassed anyway.:o I suppose every picture we view is subject to the differing brightness and contrast on each monitor.
I am re-posting the two under-exposed pictures - I have moved the histogram slightly to the right, and enlarged and straightened a little. On my monitor these look slightly overexposed to me now but if they look OK on the forum I shall adjust any future posings accordingly. Or I might just give up posting altogether and just read and join in the banter. And go back to beginners corner to learn that WB means White Balance:lol:
ps I won't be able to see any difference until I get to work tomorrow but feel free to let me know meantime

Greetigs from London
Two or three lunch times a week in my lunch hour, I take a lens out to test. I have collected so many manual lenses I tend to photograph the same subjects each time just to compare IQ etc. Here are two from the M 35-70 2.8-3.5, and two from the newly acquired M100 2.8. Both very nice lenses. I can never get white base correct - some times cloudy works, some times neon white light, so all are PP'd for whitebase and a little histogram

All
I have some promotions literature produced by Tamron at the time. The 19AH has only the 01F converter listed as acceptable ie the 2X. It is the 01F that appears to fit most of the adaptall line.
The 140 converter only features for the 200-500, 90, 300 and 500

Thank you everybody. Very helpful. ....and you have given me an idea.
I find quite a few manual focus 'broken' K mount lenses (though rarely Pentax - they don't break do they?) in my local photography shop bargain bucket, ranging from £0 (if you buy something else too) to £5 max. Many of these have stuck apertures, bent actuator arms etc etc.
ps. I tried the ex oily K135 today. Very nice lens
Thank you again

A couple of days ago I was searching through my local camera shop bargain bin and found an SMC 135.3.5 in beautiful cosmetic condition but it had oily blades and the aperture was very slow. I bought it for £5.
My original intention was to cut off the protruding part of the aperture arm, so that open aperture metering would no longer work, and thought by doing this it would turn into a screwmount type lens with full av metering, just like a Takumar.
Then I thought this lens is too nice to damage in such a way, so beer in hand I plucked up the courage to take it apart and clean the blades with lighter fluid. I didn't know how easy this would be but under half an hour later I now have a fully functioning SMC 135.3.5, for a fiver. :D
My question is, if I did cut the aperture arm off, would it have worked at all apertures in AV mode, like a Takumar?
Thank you

Hello M folks. I don't often post pictures (too humbled by the wonderful posts here) but I thought I would give it a go with something a bit different. I tried out my M135 - 3.5 with a set of extension tubes in the garden yesterday. Wish I'd used a tripod as the results seem promising. These appear to be about 1:2 when compared to my macro lenses.
In the afternoon I went for a walk along the Thames at Greenwich, taking my little used, and rapparently uncommon M35-70 2.8-3.5. Seems sharp enough to me
First two obviously the M135. f5.6 I believe
The last two, both f5.6

I have just purchased for £35 a Viv S1 70-210 QDOS - the allegedly nasty version 4 Cosina one that legacy seems to have tarred as being not worth bothering about. Camera Weekly reviewed it in 1987 and raved about it and to be honest my first impression is very favourable. I have the Version 1 and 3, and the Tammy SP 3.5 and this is at least as good. Time will tell.
The 3D seems to work though I have not yet mastered focussing but if any of you have the viewing glasses you will hopefully see an effect. They have been sharpened. I've posted two 3D's and one normal, which has not beensharpened, just to give a general impression. Hopefully I can post some better pictures after practice
