jfsavage: I'm interested to hear how long ago did you get it from Amazon? Was it directly from Amazon or one of their resellers? Less than a month ago I purchased one from Amazon as well and so far so no problems. I called Amazon about some scuffs on the box. They assured me that they were probably shipping related and that this was a new lens. They also offered me an additional $150 to keep the lens. Which I did after contacting Pentax to confirm the warranty.
Is there anyway to find out the manufacture date of the lens?
Thanks.
Angel.

I think I may have made my experience seem more dire than it was..
Same here. Live and learn, I don't think we'll make that mistake again.
Don't get me wrong, functionally everything worked out fine. I had a great time and the organizers were very friendly and helpful. I was just more diappointed in myself that I wasn't prepared to produce the results I had hoped for.
You're absolutely right. That's more or less how it went down. Because everything was so consistent and static in regards to the lighting and exposure settings, you're left to contend with only the direction of the model. And because I went in, without a plan or even an idea of how to shoot the model it was left up to her to decide on the poses. She was a bit more experienced than college kids so she continuously shifted poses for me without direction. The end result was not so much a focused creative flow, but a large pool of photographed poses.
That's an excellent idea regarding the posing guides. I didn't even consider that there would something like that. Another idea, which my sister recommended, was to watch an episode of America's Next Top Model and follow their photo shoot routines. An idea I'm not too keen on, considering I loathe those shows. But she made a good argument to watch at least the photo shoot portion and get some ideas for next time.
Again you're absolutely right about music and entertainment for the models. If this was a one on one photo shoot I think I'd have an upset model since I was concerned more about the environment than their attitude. Luckily, the group I was with had music playing and their numbers made it distracting enough for her that it wasn't too awkward.
All great advice from all of you guys. For anyone with first-time studio jitters, consider the advice on here and be prepared with a directional plan, but most importantly, relax. Keep the models happy and build a good conversation with them. Everything else can be worked out. That was the biggest lesson I learned
Here's are some shots that came out pretty good.. Attachment 36153 Attachment 36154 Attachment 36155 |

Thanks for the advice guys. You're absolutely right, there definitely needs to be a plan and talking to the model is a must. Unfortunately I failed at both. It felt as uncomfortable to me as it did to her and I went in blind.
I'll chalk this one up to inexperience. Next, I'll be much more prepared. Wider lenses are also a must for next time.
Pictures coming soon.
Thanks again.

Hey folks. I'll be attending a photo club meeting at a local studio to do some swimsuit modeling shots. This will be my first foray into the world of studio work and was wondering if you all had any tips. This is by no means a paying gig, its all amateur hour for the most part and to just get some experience. Any help would be appreciated..
I'm equipped with a K20D, DA* 50-135 and a Pentax-M 50. I don't have any wider angle lenses so at best I'll be doing 50mm all the way.
Thanks.
