Excellent photos. The photographer has to know what buttons to push to get these images.

Marc,
Excellent shots as usual. You have a talent that alot of photographers do not have. You see what you want and know how to get the image. It makes me a little bit ill when I see others on another forum (one guy in particular) that have the funds for all kinds of long glass (sig. 500 f4.5--pentax 250-600 etc.) but still don't know how to get a decent image. Keep up the good work! Still haven't gotten any of that rain over here:D

Marc,
These are very nice images. Like the 3rd one the best. Makes me envious of your shots of hummingbirds. I can't seem to get any to come to my feeders or my wifes flower garden. BTW how are you likeing this summer heat? we've had 18 days so far at 100 or above. Sure makes this old man lazy. LOL.

I was just getting ready to ask if anyone had heard from you lately.

All of this chatter about nikon vs pentax is really interesting to me. Having started my photo career back in the late 70's with pentax and using pentax for many years with a short stint with canon and back to pentax with K10D and DA* lenses, I switched to nikon a couple of years ago and can say from experience that if you are trying to make money with a camera you need a SYSTEM. Nikon has a flash system that just works--no fiddleing just shoot. Also an excellent remote flash system with multiple flashes. If you need big lenses they are available new and used. Need a teleconverter? They are available new and used. Need to photograph a football player running at you? My nikons can do it! Volleyball players indoors with low light? Basketball players in low light? This is why most pro or semi-pro shooters use canon or nikon. If I didn't need these features I could still be shooting with my old K10D. It had great colors and produced very nice images. The whole point to this you have to use what suites you for your needs --be it pentax, nikon or canon. I reallly loved my old pentaxes but I had to get something that would help me in my work.

ken,
I have a Epson 1400 also. I use atlex.com for my ink source. They sell original Epson ink at the best price I have been able to find. They also sell Epson paper.
I use Ilford Galerie paper--smooth pearl or sometimes I also use the glossy paper.
I really like the print quality from the 1400 printer but I'll warn you, it a ink hog.

Very nice bird photos. Are you using the canon 400mm f5.6 lens?
A lot of people switch to canon just for that lens.

Great shots Marc! I knew that you would be able to make that lens sing.
Looks like it is going to be a great bird lens.

Stoge,
Very nice shots of a rarely seen scene. I have photographed several pushing matches but never a serious battle. You did a good job on this series.

Thanks for the comments Marc and everyone. It was a truely wild scene.
There were probably 15 to 20 gobblers milling around and at least 2 or 3 different pairs of birds fighting. I think it was a territory dispute or something of that sort as there were no hens around. Like I said I have been in the woods as a hunter and photographer most of my life and I have never seen anything like it. Guess I was lucky.

Turkeys at war.
Even though I shot these with my D300 I thought you all might find these interesting.
I have years in the wood hunting and photographing nature and hve never seen turkeys fight like this in the fall. The last one is one of the combatants--bloodied but
doing just fine.

Check out photoreflect.com
It is a fairly easy to use site and well protected.
I use it for all of my sports action photos for
parents to look at.

Beautiful Marc. Excellent sharpness and depth of field! I guess you used your Pentax 200mm macro for these? Makes me want to get my hands on a nikkor 200 mm macro for my system.

Ah yes, the old out of sync syndrome--been there done that! Or the old film leader didn't catch. Learned real quick to put the leader end into the spool and then pull film canister over to the rewind knob! Fire a couple of shots and watch the little handle go around. LOL

I can do better than that! Was shooting a soccer game with my D300 and 300 f4.0 and kept getting some way over exposed and some way under---took this dummy half the game to realize I had some how put the camera on autobracket. If it can be done wrong, I have done it at one time or another. 25 years of self training I guess.

Do any of your other lenses do this wide open? Got to be something else. If I had a lens that was that bad wide open I'd throw it away. It looks like youve got a soft focus filter on the front of the lens. I've had some bad lenses in my time but never one that was that soft even wide open.

I don't know who John Galt is but, I am sick and tired of every news station playing back the fly slapping event like it was a great feat of skill. Now if he had slapped Nancy Pelosi down like that it would have been news worthy! LOL

Spoonbills are really strange bird and are ugly and beautiful at the same time.
You captured them very well.
