My K-01 is my go to camera, reconsider getting the pancake 40, instead of that 18-55 thing.
After close to 2 years with it, K-01 continues as the best camera sold under $2000 for photography.. yep bought a spare.
On my belt loop with a pancake it has gone with me to places where DSLR's were blocked/ban'd.
Ricoh/Pentax let the closed minded obsolete it, before it evolved.

Search for a A50 f/1.7 for the best IQ on a K-01.
I travel with only the pancakes, the 40 would be a good all around lens IMO.
( I don't zoom or AF )

File 1 = E
try something that's not infinity, missing Focus is why I dumped my K5 for K01/manual.

Laurentiu Cristofor.. the point is?
I have been using the K-01 for almost 2 months and find it a superlative camera.
I wasn't happy to sell my K-5, but never could get it to focus manually or robo.
So will accept any slam-review you so love to find  for IQ, reliability and speed.

Outside Magazine lists the PENTAX K-01 in their Summer 2012 buyer's guide.
Outside rated the K-01 as the most intuitive camera that they tested.

I do use pre-focus and it's in eye/muscle memory now. When I have my camera in my belt case it's set to 2.5 m, then I am twisting CW or CCW instinctively as my finger is grabbing the exposure.

I use an equal mix of A 1.4 and my A 1.7 and believe they are IQ equivalents, outstanding.
Since I added a K-01 to my body collection the A family fits my style best for composition, speed and accuracy (focus peaking)

Shouldn't be a hassle or much different from 200+ lens I have. I don't know why people question K-01's ability to mount and use a longer lens. If anything it should be a reasonable combo considering size and the ability to use focus peaking. So many of the "won't work" brigade are the same crew of damnation without using the camera or in many cases not even having one. The same rules apply as have to any SLR for the past 50 years. However, I use MF with all lens.

One habit I find handy is setting my distance to about 2.5 m when I stow the K-01 back in my belt case. Then when I grab it, I know where I am with a quick CW or CCW twist to the focus point my eye has in the composition.
It just seems the A lens are perfect for the K-01 for speed, accuracy and minimal hassle. With an A the green button is out of the loop.

Not to be contrary, but are you serious about switching from M to AF mid image capture ??
After several weeks with the K-01, I find myself in manual and peaking 90% of the time since it is very accurate and fast. This is not my focus method with K5 or Kr because those cameras don't show me as clearly the focus point.
I use the DA and A lens family and enjoy the wrist exercise focusing.
The only lens I slow down is my 50 f/1.4 as it demands a careful focus wide open.

I have been using K-01 raw (DNG) with no issues in Win-7 64 versions CS5
Elements 10
Lightroom 4
the usual note: : Adobe is often able to provide preliminary support for raw files from new camera models not listed above. Camera Raw and Lightroom will open and edit these files, but profiling and testing is not complete.

This chart doesn't include the Toshiba EXCERIA , SanDisk 90 SD's, Panasonic 8GB 90mb/s SDHC vs Transcend 16GB Class 10 SDHC which manage to achieve high speeds by using the latest version of the SD Memory Card standard, 3.0 UHS-I.

Again poor documentation ..
As a positive it shows they are developing to the future SD's .. but should at least pre-warn users about the choices made.
Happy it solved ... lovely photos btw..
IMHO -- the K-01 is so fussy about SD that many tests and reviews are flawed because of not using UHS-1. The general feel of this camera is night and day.
Spend a $ more..note the 95 |

I had that result when testing SD cards from several class 6 and lower..
try a UHS-1 SD or at min a class 10.

K-01 fully supports UHS-I 95/90 -- so reported in Japan and SanDisk.
Anyone have one to post a rough compare to class 10? You Tube |

ClearViewer is an inexpensive $35, folding high-diopter lens which lets you view and focus on the LCD screen with your eye right up to the lens, less than 2 inches away from the LCD. You can use the LCD screen almost as you would an electronic viewfinder, and can see fine detail very clearly, in all sorts of lighting.
The tripod socket model folds tightly against the LCD so it doesn't add a lot of bulk to the K-01. It unfolds easily and quickly for use, and can easily swing down if you want to view the LCD in the normal way. Picture shows mounted on a LX-3/5

Hi Texian.. I'm a female from the Cali desert and own all three of the current Pentax cameras and have been using the K-01 in all situations except sports photography, which I don't do.. I also use a long-bill cap and monopod when hiking.
If you can grasp this experience observation.
The K5 and Kr both suffer from "guessology focus" because of the SLR viewfinder screens and iffy phase AF and as such IMO, they basically count on you living within the depth of field range.
The K-01 is the Pentax focus queen with it's Focus Peaking that literally jumps at your eye in the large sharp screen. I use manual focus 90% of the time because it's faster and more accurate !! ..yep even with the pancakes.
I am happily into my chosen focus drill but other users will post their pet method, also besides watching the Peaking Edges you can setup the beep to tell you. My gramps, pushing 90, prefers the shutter block but that would irritate the hell outa me.
What bugs me about the K-01 is the lack of good documentation, which maybe Pentax did to get a daily snicker reading our posts.
