I have them both. I do not consider them redundant. The 21 is great when I travel internationally. About 80% of my pics were taken with the DA 21 during my recent trip. The K01 and Da 21 is a pretty compact set up. I do enjoy the 20-40 when the weather sealing is needed. The IQ is fantastic with either lens. I have not compared performance by pixel peeping. So, I do not know if the 21 comes ahead of the zoom in IQ.

Thank you officiousbystander! Once you get into the continuous line - it does not feel very difficult. In fact, those sketches were rendered very fast.

Hi Friends,
I am very happy to share with you all that the photographs I made of my artwork were published in a leading newspaper in India!
I used the DA 35 Macro on my K5IIs to photograph my artwork. The sketches were rendered in pen and ink at two concerts.
Here is a link to the Newspaper's online publication Aravindhan Natarajan sketches Ilaiyaraaja on stage - The Hindu
Ilaiyaraaja is one of the most prolific composers in the world (over one thousand original background scores, other instrumental albums, etc.)
Here are some of his pieces: You Tube |

I was not able to get good pics of the warblers. However, enjoyed the eagle family. Here is a pic of an adult landing (taken with a 400mm lens)

Hi Ramseybuckeye!
It was good to run into you! You had the DA 300! I am the guy who had the FA 300.
I was about to make a note in this thread that I just saw one Pentax in the sea of mostly Canons at this birding paradise.

Thank you - ordered the op tech.
Algrove and Madshutter,
Thank you for your response. I can see how the 645Z with the WR lens would be a formidable combination against the elements. Unfortunately do not have a WR lens in my 645Z line up. I am taking a K5IIs with 20-40 limited - hopefully that will prove to be just as effective when I am caught in a downpour.
Not a Number,
I am exploring the Ewa Marine - sounds very good. Will end up getting one of those at some point.
OldBay Runner,
Thank you for Kata - I researched that and looks like Manfrotto now makes the same kind (or maybe they tied up?). So ordered the Manfrotto version of Kata 702 to use with the 645Z.
AndyB,
Will look into peak design for a purchase down the road.
Thank you all for your suggestions!

Thank you for the suggestion. I think at some point I will probably get an ewa marine.

Thank you for the advice. I am actually not going to take the K01. I decided to go with the K5IIs and 20-40 limited that is weather resistant. That combo may give me more peace of mind.
Thank you all for your guidance!!

Hi everyone,
I am excited about a trip that may involve photographing rain forests. Does anyone have any suggestions for a rain sleeve cover for a 645Z and Fa 45-85? Many thanks for your help!

BTW, I am looking at what member Calsan suggested in my previous thread on waterproof options http://www.outex.com
Anyone used outex in here?

…………and then there is the risk of pushing the flash test button and blinding the poor brides eyes!
Edit: never mind, on close examination her thumb is on the side of the flash and not the back where the buttons are.

Thank you Zman, Did not know of raw options in waterproof cameras - will look into the olympus. ---------- Post added 07-17-15 at 01:22 PM ----------
Thanks to your post I cracked open the user manual and found the recommendation for fresh water immersion for 2 minutes following salt water use. I have failed to do that! Thank you also for the creative tips on adding extra sealing! ---------- Post added 07-17-15 at 01:28 PM ----------
Tanzer, like your pun! I can see what you mean by the K5 K3 menus driving you crazy. The AF button placement difference has made me accidentally hit the green button many a time. I do see the value in sticking with the brand. Will keep you posted about my decision.
Many thanks everyone for great suggestions and insight!

alamo and Calsan, the waterproof covers sound like a great idea! I may try this for a K01 and see if it works out. The 645Z is staying on dry land!

Adam and Luftfluss, thank you for your suggestions - I will explore those options. ---------- Post added 07-16-15 at 11:25 PM ----------
Uday,
GoPro does feature prominently whenever I look up underwater video. Also, saw many tourists using the system in Hawaii. Will definitely look into it. Thank you. ---------- Post added 07-16-15 at 11:27 PM ----------
Great suggestion to dry the camera on rice! Will see if I can resurrect it for outside water use. Thank you. ---------- Post added 07-16-15 at 11:29 PM ----------
Condor, thank you for this cost effective suggestion. If all cameras meant for underwater use are going to fail eventually, it makes sense to spend as little as you can and get some mileage out of it (though I cringe at the waste generated from gadgets rendered useless so soon). Thank you again.

Hi Canada Rockies,
Thank you very much for your post. I see what you mean about salt water eroding virtually anything over time. I live in a city where they extensively apply salt on the road over winter. Yesterday my mechanic showed me the underside of my 13 year old car - there was rust everywhere! Thank you again!

Hi Everyone,
I was lucky to be in Maui last week and had a fabulous time. One glitch that threw me off was the waterproof WG-3 suddenly decided to not be waterproof anymore. I was about to take a picture of an eel while snorkeling (close to the shore) and the camera died. on examining later, i could see that there was water vapor on the LCD display and lens. As luck would have it this is the only camera for which I did not buy the extended warranty. I bought this camera in march last year and the standard warranty has expired.
I do need a waterproof camera (upcoming trips to coastal) areas, but I am not sure if I should stick with Pentax. I am a Pentax fanatic (have everything from the Q to the 645Z - yes, I am fortunate to own such precious equipment). My question is this:
1. should I replace this WG with a recent model and buy the extended warranty (that way I can use the spare batteries and stay with the brand that has worked for me in other formats so far).
2. Do you think Pentax will consider my loyalty to the brand and offer some discount on a recent WG model?
3. Is fanboyism blinding me? Should I just say "I love DSLRs from Pentax, but for waterproof I should look to "GpPro" or some other brand and move on?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I do see many waterproof failure posts of Pentax WG cameras on our forum when I do a search. Looks like the seals do eventually give in even without any abuse. I have always treated my equipment with the utmost respect and never failed to follow basic guidelines on camera usage. Eg. The WG rated for 45 ft. was never taken under water for more than 10 feet of water and never immersed for more than half an hour and still the camera failed. Considering the clearance price I paid for this camera I do not know if it is worth it to send it in for repairs.
Thank you for any suggestions/insights you may provide.

Wow! I cannot believe that someone would sell this for $150, even with another zero added at the end the price does not sound right.

Thank you for your response. It doesn't wiggle when the camera moves. It stays straight when I pull out but moves around to a crooked position easily. I think the 77 mm may have a stiffer mechanism. Thank you again!

Hi everyone,
Recently bought a new HD 35 macro lens. The lens hood has a pronounced wobble (side to side) - is this natural for a slide-out hood in a macro lens? I do not experience this with my 77 limited. Anyone else experience this?
