Focus Question Help Needed

I took several group wedding shots and had many unfocused pictures. Attached is an example of one. This particular photo was taken with AF Center but the picture looks in focus to the left side. The middle and right are way out of focus. The camera is a new k20d and the lens is a Sigma 18-50 2.8 EX DL. Shake reduction on. The speed was 1/60 and F4.0 ISO 400. I am thinking the speed was to slow and should have used higher F. But if the focus was set to center why is it out in center and right?

K10D Hot Shoe Problem

It wasn't dedication that caused the shoe to break.it was prior force used trying to get off the flash that would not release because of an obvious flaw in the flash pin (several owners have reported this problem.. i have had 2 flashes myself have this defective pin problem) should I not have used force to try getting off the flash? prob not but but the company has an obvious defect here which in turn caused this problem.

K10D Hot Shoe Problem

I was shooting a wedding in church today and during the brides dressing my K 10 D's hot shoe rail on the right side came loose and I had to apply counter pressure on the left side the whole day and night to prevent the other side from comming loose! What a nightmare! Has anyone else had or heard of this happening? I'm very upset to say the least! I have a Wedding this comming weekend and not sure what to do. My wife and I are a team and have two k10d's but really cant afford a another camera. We have had problems with penax flashes getting locked on the camera so i suppose it weakened the shoe when I was trying to get it off. I have read numerous people have that problem and I think pentax should pay for overnighting me a another camera so I have this comming weekend! We will see what they say come Monday when I call. Has anyone ever heard of them doing this? Oh these cameras are less than a year old and under warranty. I have to have a camera NOW, This is my business. Oh how is the hot shoe held on? by GLUE???!!

very unhappy Pentax Owner at this point....

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping I didnt overpay, I did get a Kenko 1.5x teleconverter with it (not sure how good this is.) I am just figuring that since Sigma stopped making them I had better jump on it.

I just bought this lens used and am hoping it completes my wedding lens for my 2 K10D's. I now have Sigma 18-50MM 2.8 EX DC, PENTAX SMC FA 1.4 50MM, and am now waiting for the 70-200mm SIGMA 2.8 EX DG - I think I have a good line up of lens for low lighting situations. Anyone have experience with this lens in Pentax mount? Is the auto focus fast in low lighting (churches, reception halls)? Pics sharp? ec etc etc. How does it compare to the Cannon L series comparable distance lens?

I saw an ebay auction for this lens go for over $1400 I got it cheaper by $100 Is this lens in Pentax mount worth this? I assume yes since it is so hard to find in Pentax mount. I beleive it is not a macro version as I think Sigma didnt make the K mount in macro. Is this correct?

I really want a Bigma but not practical for wedding work.

Thanks All!!

Remote Strobe Setup Help Needed

Thanks Entropy ..I was thinking that just using 2 540's on the stands infared would be fine. A guy from midwest sold me this setup. The Idea was to put 1 540 on a stand and 1 285 on the other stand while keeping the other 540 for the other k10d. My error. My fiance wants to buy a bracket and have the 540 and wizard on it ..like you say just getting to many adapters involved. SO if I just use the 2 540s off camera on stands should work fine and also keeping the pttl. Now I got 3 poket wizards and a 285HV extra.

Remote Strobe Setup Help Needed

Hello Everyone
I am new at this so please keep in mind! Extra explaination may be needed for me.

Here is what I have:

(2) K10D's (2) 540fgz flashes (1) Vivitar 285HV flash (3) Pocket Wizard Plus II
(2) stands for 2 of the flashes.

Here is what I'm trying to do: I would like to have 1 540 mounted on the camera while using the other 2 stand mounted flashes (1- 540FGZ and 1- 285HV) to flash with camera mounted 540. I want to use the stand mounted flashes for background light and fill. Maybe flank the stands or behind subjects for background light on dancefloor. I cannot figure the best way to do this. I can put a wizard on the k10d and fire the two stand mounted flashes but how do I use the 540 on camera with the other 2 stand mounted flashes that are with pocket wizards? Am I making sense or is this the wrong aproach? The othe k10d will be used for just taking candids and not using the stand mounted strobes. so just 1 k10d using three flashes with one of the 3 flashes mounted on the camera.

Thank you in advance

:)

yes...we think thats where the problem is the switch doesnt have a snap into feeling like my camera does. I feel each setting from afs afc and mf. Her camera the switch just is one smooth flow from each. So I expect its in that switch.

Hello

We purchased 2 k10d's and my fiance has the same problem. Just this weekend her 540 flash is now stuck to the body. We have tried everything to get off but its stuck. This is the 2nd problem with the k10d she has. The other is that the autofocus motor runs when in manual focus. I am now starting to regret purchasing pentax. I thought I made a great choice. :o

K10 Help Needed - Manual Focus Problem

When the Focus mode lever is on MF when the Shutter release button is pushed the lens focus motor is turning as if it were trying to focus, although the lens is not moving. This occurs on all lens I have. Ive tried to resetting the camera however the motor is still turning when pushing down half way. The pictures are fine as it's not actually turning the lens. Is this normal? Its like mechanically - the motor is not engaged with the lens- but the computer thinks it should try to focus and is spinning. This is a brand new camera :( any thoughts?

Hello all
I have recently purchased my first dslr camera a K10D! Wow I really like this camera although I know absolutely nothing about Cameras or Photography prior to getting my camera. Here's what I have so far...

K10D
FA 1.4 50mm
DA 4-5.6 50-200mm
DA 3.5-5.6 18-55mm
AF-540FGZ Flash
Lightsphere II

Since I bot this all from someone who needed money really bad I think I got a good price. All items like NEW.

I am going to be doing a lot of reading here hopefully to learn about this camera and photography. I have the manual and have ordered the DVD.

My sister has already asked me to photograph her wedding for her. She is not having a photographer at all. So I guess I will be stuck doing it. although I do not feel comfortable at all. But she has already let me know that If I dont get shots its ok. So this is just a NOVICE thing Im doing here and she is not holding me accountable in any way. I'd like to get 1 or 2 good shots for her though.

Will the 50-200mm lens I have be to slow for a wedding in a church? I think it would be long enough. Seems like 2.8F is the choice for weddings? She is getting married in a church but I have no idea on the lighting. I would guess that I need a faster lens if shooting w/o a flash.

Anyway, I hope to learn as much as possible from all you professionals and long time amateurs!

Thanks Again
